Today, Asus unveiled a new HD monitor that they will be releasing later this year. The VA278Q is a 27 inch monitor that will come with an unusually high 2560 x 1440 resolution. The company also stated that it will include an 80000000:1 contrast ratio. The monitor will utilize an IPS panel and LED edgelight technology. The IPS display panel has been known to offer better color accuracy and picture characteristics compared to standard monitors with TN panels. Asus has not announced yet the exact date or price of the VA278Q at this time.

Over at CES 2012 in Las Vegas, ASUS showcased a new monitor designed for professional artists and photographers, a 27-inch model called VA278Q that features an LED backlight, an IPS panel, a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, and 178/178 degree viewing angles. The VA278Q features a 27¡È QHD display which is capable of showcasing screen resolutions of up to 2560 x 1440. It features a pixel pitch of 0.233mm, which is 25% smaller than that of generic 27¡È W FHD displays. In plain English, it should deliver sharper images. And these images can be viewed from extreme angles as well, with the VA278Q providing 178¡Æ wide-viewing angles on both vertical and horizontal planes. The LED-backlit ...

ASUS just showed me their first 27-inch 2560 x 1440 IPS panel (pictured above). Pricing and availability are both unknowns although I am hearing 2H 2012 may be likely for the display. There are VGA, DL-DVI, DP and HDMI inputs of course. The panel can be rotated 90 degrees as well.
