Here comes a deal that you do not see every day – starting this Sunday, Best Buy is giving a free Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, a 16-gig Wi-Fi-only model, to be exact, with the purchase of a 46-inch Samsung 3D-enabled HDTV. The TV is priced at $1,499, which makes the offer sound pretty tempting considering that the tablet itself costs a third of that.

HP calls it quits with webOS

After acquiring Palm for $1.2 billion in April 2010, HP has decided to call it quits and will no longer sell hardware powered by the webOS software that was the key behind its purchase of Palm. In a terse statement, the Palo Alto based firm said, "that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward."

Best Buy still has 90 percent of its initial HP TouchPad tablet stock

The HP TouchPad has had a bit of a rocky ride since its launch back at the beginning of July, with lukewarm reviews and a number of price cuts designed to trigger sales of the tablet. Despite the drop in price, it seems that HP is having quite a bit of trouble moving the TouchPad at retail, as All Things D is reporting that Best Buy is still sitting on over 90 percent of its original stock of the tablet.

ASUS' next gen Eee Pad Transformer to be first Kal-El device?

Earlier this year, NVIDIA teased us all with the promise of its forthcoming Kal-El SoC, indicating an August debut. Well, we're currently in the thick of that hot and hazy month with no clear sign of an incoming quad-core tablet, but certainly more release gossip. According to Fudzilla, multiple sources have confirmed ASUS' next Eee Pad Transformer will indeed be first in line to pack four cores, lending credence to Chairman Jonney Shih's claims the tab would be "impressive." Concrete launch details for the slate have yet to be announced, but if Shih's pre-CES timeline pans out, you'll only have four long months to wait for a Glow Ball hands-on.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 shipped with as plain of an UI as Android Honeycomb intended in the US, and the TouchWiz UX update began rolling shortly after launch.
Now it seems that Samsung has put the update on hold for the time being, saying it needs to ensure a positive customer experience, which is corporatese for "we need to pull it in and squash some bugs". People at XDA-Devs have been complaining about graphics issues after the update, so that might be it.

After teasing a new tablet under the parody brand “TabCo” for the past several months, Fusion Garage took the wraps off of the Grid 10 tablet and a new Grid 4 smartphone on Monday. The Grid 10 offers a custom “GridOS” operating system, is equipped with a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768-pixel display and is powered by a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset presumably clocked at 1GHz. Sprint has abandoned its plans to launch a version of Research In Motion’s BlackBerry PlayBook tablet with an embedded 4G WiMAX radio. The nation’s No. 3 wireless carrier cited a lack of demand among business customers as its reasoning for the cancellation, The Wall Street Journal reports. “It’s an interesting concept, it just hasn’t caught on with business customers as much as they would like,” said president of Sprint’s business markets group, Paget Alves.

Samsung will appeal a recent ruling by The Regional Court of Düsseldorf in Germany that bars the South Korean tablet maker from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 device in the whole of the European Union except for the Netherlands, The Wall Street Journal said on Friday. The appeal court date is set for August 25th. Samsung could face fines of up to $350,000 per unit if it continues to sell the device in the European Union. On August 1st, Apple also blocked Samsung from selling its tablet in Australia until courts rule whether or not the device infringes on 10 of Apple’s patents. Samsung could be set to launch a new variant to its Galaxy Tab range, rebooting the original device and adding in some next-gen screen tech too.
The new device would have a 7-inch screen, but use the same style of AMOLED displays as seen in the Galaxy S, according to sources quoted by OLED-Display.

ASUS' Eee Pad Slider is fast becoming just as mythical as the flying horse the company's named after. We've had several encounters with potential release windows for the slate, only to see it continually creep back into fall. Well, judging by a recent report from Notebook Italia and the tab's new product page, it looks like we may actually see a September launch for the 10.1-incher -- in Italy. Contrary to prior rumors, the company will be offering the Slider in two storage configurations -- 16GB and 32GB at potential €479 and €599 price points overseas, while $400 and $550 models should hit the US.

We have heard at least a dozen rumors that Apple will launch the next iPhone in September, possibly alongside the next-generation iPad. Several of those rumors have suggested Apple will announce a new iPhone 5 and an iPad 3 with a Retina Display, while others have predicted the Cupertino-based company will simply announce the iPhone 4S, a marginal upgrade from the current model.

Research warns of PlayBook security holes

The first independent study into the security credentials of the BlackBerry PlayBook has found a couple of causes for concern.
The issues the NGS Secure team found included unintended access to the file system, flaws in relation to a third-party web server and a problem with the HDMI video interface.
The company has made RIM aware of these security flaws and says that the company is making changes to address them.
