First case of Android running on HP TouchPad caught on video

First case of Android running on HP TouchPad caught on video

Posted on Aug 23, 2011 by MG15

What would happen if the HP TouchPad could run Android instead of its native webOS platform? Although it was not originally meant to do that, in terms of hardware, the tablet is more than capable of booting Google's operating system, and there is already a team of developers trying to turn this crazy idea into reality.

However, somebody seems to have beaten them to it. There is a rumor circulating on the web claiming that a Best Buy customer who took advantage of the tablet's aggressively discounted price of $99 received a unit, which had Android 2.2 Froyo installed instead of webOS. Although we cannot confirm the credibility of the story, there is a video showing the Froyo-flavored TouchP...

WiFi Galaxy Tab 10.1 Gets Improved GPU Performance With TouchWiz UX

Posted on Aug 23, 2011 by MG15

So you read our TouchWiz UX Review and thought, "I'll pass on this one." Well, think it over one more time. When Anand discovered that Sammy's LTE Tab was blessed with updated graphics drivers that brought it much improved performance we wondered whether the WiFi editions would be similarly blessed. We tested our Google I/O Limited Edition Tab first, and came up empty. But our updated review sample actually showed the same performance jump as the LTE edition. Not sure why LE owners are left in the cold, but retail Tab owners should take notice, NVIDIA's Tegra 2 GPU has never looked so good. We're reaching out to Google for comment, in the meanwhile, Tab LE owners, let us know what you're per...

After HP decided to bring its discontinued webOS TouchPad tablet to fire sale prices, there have been a lot of warnings that people are buying an obsolete device with mobile OS that doesn't have the thousands of apps Android or iOS possess, but at $99 nobody listened, of course. And here comes the news of a project which aims to port Android to the ARM-based hardware on the HP TouchPad.

After all, in terms of silicon, it is up with the best out there, and, although new drivers have to be written and a lot of coding done, the so-called Touchdroid Team hopes to start off with Gingerbread and an eventual Cyanogen mod, then move on to either Android Honeycomb, or Ice Cream Sandwich, depending o...

Samsung promises big announcement on September 1st

Samsung promises big announcement on September 1st

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Samsung has released two teaser videos that promise “something big” is coming during the IFA trade show in Berlin, which kicks off on September 1st. The videos are vague: one shows scenes by an ocean and the second has a number of people walking around with glowing objects in their hands. It is possible the clips are hinting at Samsung’s rumored Android Honeycomb Galaxy Tab device, which packs a 7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution, a 3-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel camera for video chats. Samsung unveiled the original 7-inch Galaxy Tab last year, so it’s entirely possible that an update will be announced on September 1st. But, some of the users are also holding...

While initial reviews – ours included – complained of occasional sluggishness from the TouchPad’s 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon APQ8060 processor, webOS engineers within HP were also supposedly vocal in their complaints about the hardware, The Next Web‘s tipster whispered to them.

HTC's Puccini tablet is shaping up to be the company's worst kept secret. This latest batch of leaked screen shots over on PocketNow show off the tab's skinned homescreen where a clearly visible AT&T widget indicates a missing SIM card, and the Settings menu which points us to the product's possible release name -- Jetstream. The 10-inch slate, said to pack a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and Scribe functionality, appears to have a "true" 4G LTE AT&T destiny ahead of it, with a potential launch coming before the close of this year. HP Discontinues webOS Handsets, Touchpad, and Entire Ecosystem

Posted on Aug 19, 2011 by MG3

Today HP revealed that they would be announcing that it will completely discontinue operations for all webOS devices. This affects the HP TouchPad and all webOS handsets. This does not mean that webOS will be cancelled altogether and forever, though it certainly doesn’t bode well for those who’ve invested in the HP/webOS combination in the meantime. This comes after less than stellar sales on the TouchPad and a request from Best Buy for HP to take back all their tablets.
