Apple is cutting orders for iPads by 25% - a drop which might affect the company’s Chinese contractors like Hon Hai the most, a JPMorgan Chase report states. Some supply-chain vendors have reported that Cupertino has cut orders for the tablet by 25% for the fourth quarter of the year. JPMorgan analysts noted that it’s the first cut they’ve seen for the iPad so far.

iPad 3, LTE iPhone promise 'monster' Apple earnings next year

iPad 3, LTE iPhone promise 'monster' Apple earnings next year

Posted on Sep 26, 2011 by MG3

Is Apple’s product pipeline too full of home runs to fail? The release of the iPhone 5, a second entry-level iPhone, the next iPad and even next year’s 4G LTE-powered iPhone will help Apple maintain its series of “monster” quarters according to Wedbush analyst Scott Sutherland. He expects Apple to ship 26 million iPhones during the first quarter of next year, up from 23 million during the first quarter of this year. New product launches are the special sauce to Apple’s success, Sutherland says. “While the iPhone 4 appears to be selling well due to existing market demand and new markets, we expect a bump up from the iPhone 5 this October, and a lower end iPhone geared towards emerging markets...

Sprint iPad on the way alongside iPhone 5?

Sprint iPad on the way alongside iPhone 5?

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

We know that the iPhone 5 should be coming to Sprint in October but the third-largest mobile operator may also be getting the Apple tablet to go along with it.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has prepared a 3G iPad which will be compatible with Sprint’s network. This is different than the Verizon 3G iPad but the report doesn’t mention whether there will be WiMax 4G support or not. I don’t picture Apple being the biggest fan of WiMax but I think that having 4G in an iPad could be a very cool thing.
The AT&T version has a 3G iPad but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the next version have AT&T’s 4G. The issue is that having 4G on each network will require different radios and Apple generally doesn’t ...

Ex-Samsung Electronics manager pleads guilty in insider trading probe with Apple iPad components

Ex-Samsung Electronics manager pleads guilty in insider trading probe with Apple iPad components

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

A former employee of Samsung Electronics said he indeed supplied screen components shipping information to a hedge fund manager about the upcoming Apple iPad last year.
Samsung is making some of the screens and other gear for the first iPad, so Suk-Joo Hwang was lured by promises for flying models on a private jet during weekend trips to Iceland in exchange for insider info about Apple's upcoming disruption device. We kid, but Wall Street somehow got under the guy's skin, and after 14 years of humble work for Samsung Electronics USA, he was trapped by the necessity to install a granite countertop in his old kitchen.
The guy has been granted immunity from the New York prosecutor, in order to ...

Adobe finally brings Flash to iPhone and iPad

Adobe finally brings Flash to iPhone and iPad

Posted on Sep 12, 2011 by MG1

During the IBC trade show in Amsterdam on Friday, Adobe officially took the wraps off of its new Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 and Adobe Flash Access 3.0 products, which will allow iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to access Adobe Flash content. Apple, which has long rejected Adobe’s Flash technology, doesn’t need to approve the tech for it to work, either. “With Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5, media publishers now have a single, simple workflow for delivering content using the same stream to Flash-enabled devices or to the Apple iPhone and iPad,” Adobe said in...

Apple Successfully Blocks Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 From Germany

Apple Successfully Blocks Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 From Germany

Posted on Sep 12, 2011 by MG1

Apple and Samsung have been in a legal tussle for quite some time now, but it looks like Apple still has the advantage as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been banned from sale in Germany. A German court recently decided to uphold its temporary ban on the Android tablet set last month. But that’s not all for Samsung:
Apple, the maker of the iPad, won a second injunction at the same court last week, forcing Samsung to pull the new Galaxy Tab 7.7 out of the IFA consumer-electronics show in Berlin. The legal battle between Cupertino, California-based Apple and its closest rival in tablet computers is intensifying as an increasing number of consumers use devices such as tablets and smartphones to...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 pulled from IFA 2011 because of a new Apple injunction against it

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 pulled from IFA 2011 because of a new Apple injunction against it

Posted on Sep 07, 2011 by MG1

The mysterious yanking of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet from the show floor at the IFA 2011 expo has been confirmed by Samsung to be caused by a preliminary injunction Apple secured against the tablet on Friday, September 2.
Cupertino already scored one injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany, and, although Samsung labeled its first tablet sample with Super AMOLED display as "Not for sale in Germany" on the following day of the expo, this obviously hadn't been enough to secure its continuous presentation on the floor of IFA 2011.
James Chung, a Samsung spokesperson from the Korean headquarters, has confirmed for Bloomberg that Apple has been granted an injunction to ban...

Apple begins selling refurbished iPad 2s

Apple begins selling refurbished iPad 2s

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: TabletsAppleiPad 2

Apple has for the first time begun selling refurbished iPad 2s through its online store. Selection is currently limited to 32 or 64GB capacities, and predominantly 3G models, equipped for either AT&T or Verizon. The two exceptions are 64GB Wi-Fi tablets in either black or white.
The Wi-Fi options are in fact the cheapest amongst the refurbs, costing $649 each. 32GB 3G tablets are $679, and pricing shoots up to $779 for 64GB 3G. The costs are nevertheless better than the respective $699, $729 and $829 Apple charges for new hardware. Refurbished iPads are used products, but include new batteries and outer shells, as well as one-year warranties.

Is Amazon Apple's biggest threat in tablets?

Is Amazon Apple's biggest threat in tablets?

Filed in: TabletsAppleAmazon

It’s almost guaranteed that Amazon will release a tablet or two to go against the iPad and many analysts believe that Amazon has the best shot at dethroning Apple in this market for multiple reasons. Let’s take a look at how likely it is for Amazon to succeed in the tablet space.
Of course, this is going to be somewhat speculative because the products haven’t even been announced. Rumors suggest that Amazon will release a pair of Android-based tablets by the holiday season which are powered by NVIDIA chips and will have deep hooks into Amazon services. Let’s use that as the jumping off point.
The case for
Amazon has quietly become a high-tech sleeping giant over the last few years. While its ...

Apple patent application imagines iPhones that learn the sweet sound of your voice

Apple patent application imagines iPhones that learn the sweet sound of your voice

Button-loathing Apple really wants people to stop dirtying its devices with sticky fingerprints. That's why it's applied for a patent that should improve the frustrating experience of using iOS's voice control -- precisely the kind of update we've been awaiting since Apple bought Siri last year. With the help of a technology billed as "User profiling for voice input processing," your device would identify your voice, check against a library of words associated with you without having to trawl through its entire dictionary. We just hope Apple doesn't do away with physical inputs entirely -- we'd hate to broadcast to the world all the guilty pleasures we have loaded on our iPods.

LG, Samsung and Sharp to provide iPad 3 Retina display

Posted on Aug 24, 2011 by MG15

LG, Samsung and Sharp will provide Retina displays for Apple’s iPad 3, DigiTimes reported on Tuesday. In mid-July, rumors surfaced that Apple was testing Retina displays from Samsung and LG, and those rumors were confirmed days later when LG’s CEO said Apple will use its Retina LCDs in its next-generation iPad. Apple is also reportedly considering an investment of as much as $1 billion in a new Sharp factory that will be used to provide screens for its iPhone and iPad products. LG will be the largest iPad 3 LCD supplier followed by Samsung, although DigiTimes said Sharp could soon surpass the South Korea-based company as Apple’s second largest iPad 3 panel provider.

HP iPad 2 webOS testing double TouchPad performance says insider

HP was painfully aware of the TouchPad‘s hardware shortcomings, insider sources have suggested, with ports of webOS running “over twice as fast” on Apple’s iPad 2. While initial reviews – ours included – complained of occasional sluggishness from the TouchPad’s 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon APQ8060 processor, webOS engineers within HP were also supposedly vocal in their complaints about the hardware, The Next Web‘s tipster whispered to them.
