Apple demands ban on all Samsung Galaxy smartphones, tablets in EU
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsSamsungApple
If you thought there was any love between Apple and Samsung in their recent court battles, well, you thought wrong, as it has now been revealed that Apple has requested a ban on the sale of all Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the European Union. Previously, Apple had successfully obtained a ban on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in the EU, though that was later limited to only Germany.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsAppleGoogleiPadAndroid
Android-powered tablets have taken 20% of the global tablet market from Apple’s iPad over the past 12 months according to new data from ABI Research. While Android tablets have collectively managed to make a sizable dent in the iPad’s global market share, ABI says no single tablet vendor has managed to “mount a significant challenge” against the iPad at this point.

We have heard at least a dozen rumors that Apple will launch the next iPhone in September, possibly alongside the next-generation iPad. Several of those rumors have suggested Apple will announce a new iPhone 5 and an iPad 3 with a Retina Display, while others have predicted the Cupertino-based company will simply announce the iPhone 4S, a marginal upgrade from the current model.

Nintendo investors pressuring developers to support iPhone, iPad
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsAppleNintendoiPadiPhone 4
Ever since Apple started taking gaming more serious with its iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, Nintendo has been feeling the most pressure as these devices directly compete with their handhelds. Nintendo’s President, Satoru Iwata, came out a few months ago telling developers to outright ignore smartphones, but it looks like investors of Nintendo can’t help but take notice of the increasing popularity of Apple’s devices, especially when Nintendo’s latest handheld, the Nintendo 3DS, isn’t selling well.

Apple looks to Samsung as LG fails to meet iPad 2 display demands, report claims
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungLGAppleiPad 2
Apple will turn to Samsung and Chimei Innolux to supply display panels for its iPad 2 after LG’s panels failed to meet Apple’s quality requirements. The quality issues with LG’s displays forced the company to miss its July monthly shipment goal by 1 million units, DigiTimes said. Reportedly, LG’s LCD backlight units failed during Apple’s drop tests. LG had hoped to ship 4 million LCD units per month during the third quarter, but only shipped an estimated 2.5-2.6 million units in July. Samsung, by comparison, provided the Cupertino-based firm with two million displays, or twice its monthly average. Chimei Innolux shipped 450,000 units during the month and the company has a new monthly shipmen...

Apple iPad expected to hold 60 percent of tablet market through 2020
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsApple
You might be able to chalk this up to another bold prediction from an analyst, but according to Charlie Wolf, analyst at Needham, Apple's ubiquitous iPad tablet will still be dominating the market 9 years from now. Wolf makes these claims based on the analysis that other tablets have yet to capture the public's attention the way the iPad has.
Wolf predicts that the iPad will end this year with 85 percent of the market, and will still hold on to 72.5 percent of the market in 2015 with shipments of 101 million units. By 2020, Apple will ship 140 million iPads and will still have 60 percent of the tablet market.
Wolf explains his reasoning: "Future tablets are more likely to steal share from on...

iPad 2 orders from online Apple Store ship within one day for first time since launch
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad 2
It took 145 days, but Apple’s supply of iPad 2 tablets has finally caught up with demand. Purchases made from the online Apple Store will now ship within 24 hours of being placed, and the new fulfillment time applies to all six variants of the iPad 2. Since the tablet launched in the middle of March, Apple’s iPad 2 instantly became the world’s most sought after tablet. Inventory at brick and mortar Apple Stores, retail partners and at Apple’s online store depleted as fast as Apple could replenish it, and order fulfillment quotes grew as long as a month. Now, four and a half months later, fulfillment quotes have dropped to 24 hours for the first time since the iPad 2 became available on March...

Skype for iPad officially released and then pulled
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad 2
Good news for iPad 2 owners! Skype has released an official version for iPads, so you no longer have to rely on the iPhone app for your video calls. Of course the iPhone app would be a smaller video window, or an odd fullscreen option, but now Skype can be enjoyed on the iPad screen in its full glory.
Skype for iPad supports video calling, audio calling and chat on WiFi or 3G. Of course, in order to get two-way video calling you'll need an iPad 2, but OG iPad owners will still be able to receive video calls even though they won't be able to send video. The app also brings all the other features you'd expect in a Skype app, like push notifications for chat and communication histories.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 kept from Australians by Apple injunction
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungAppleGALAXY Tab 10.1
Apple has taken its patent infringement and trade dress case against Samsung to the land down under, as it has now filed an injunction against Samsung with Australian courts. As a result, Samsung has agreed to stop promoting its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Australia until the court case is resolved.
As part of the agreement, Apple will pay Samsung unspecified damages should Apple lose the court case, which is set for August 29. Apple's complaints with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia are the same as it has filed in the U.S., namely that it "slavishly copied" Apple's existing designs with the intent to confuse customers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Beats Apple iPad 2 In Display Contest
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungAppleiPad 2GALAXY Tab 10.1
Apple’s iPad 2 has been carrying the torch for the best quality display, but a recent comparison test suggests that it may be ousted by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The test was conducted by DisplayMate, comparing the iPad 2 display to that of various other Android tablets in addition to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, including the Motorola XOOM, Acer Iconia Tab A500, and the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer.
The attributes that DisplayMate focused on were color accuracy, viewing angles, saturation, brightness and contrast, screen reflections, backlight power consumption, and battery life of the display. The worst of the bunch was the Motorola XOOM, which scored poorly across the board. In the middle ...

Barnes & Noble responds to Amazon with Nook iPad app update
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleBarnes & NobleiPadiPad 2
Just as Amazon revealed that it will be offering its iPad app Kindle users access to newspapers and magazines, rival Barnes & Noble has done the same with an announcement that periodical access for its iPad Nook app will come "in the coming days".
The app gives users access to 175 magazines and newspapers although, like the updated Kindle app, Nook has also refused to toe the line with Apple's in-app subscription guidelines. It has removed the Nook store link from the app, and is now offering purchases from the browser at www.nooknewsstand.com.
An update to the Nook for Kids iPad app also sees iPad users, or users' kids that should be, get access to the Nook kids collection - over 550 digita...

Foxconn to build all iPad units this year
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleFoxconniPad
Foxconn will be the only manufacturer to build the iPad this year, DigiTimes reported on Wednesday. There were reports earlier this week that suggested Apple had been in talks with either Pegatron or Quanta Computer as a second manufacturer in order to create enough units for the launch of a new model in September. However, Foxconn reportedly caught word of Apple’s discussions with other manufacturing outlets and was able to convince the Cupertino-based company to stick with one manufacturer… for now. Apple is expected to launch a new iPad with a higher resolution screen in September. According to rumors swirling around analyst circles and in the media, the new tablet will be dubbed the “iPa...
