Optoma has dived deep into the 3D home theater industry recently. Today, the company unveiled two more home theater projectors, the HD8300 and HD3300. Both projectors are fitted with DLP display technology and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The HD8300 is capable of presenting 1500 ANSI lumens and a 2000:1 contrast ratio, while the HD3300 is a little more powerful with 2000 ANSI lumens and a 5000:1 contrast ratio. Both projectors feature the latest 3D technology and come with a pair of HDMI ports as well as an assortment of additional connection options. Optoma is releasing a new home theater projector this week called the HD33. This is the latest 3D projector to join the home theater lineup and it features 1800 ANSI lumens, a 4000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The company is stating that the projector is the very first 3D projector to retail for under $1500. Optoma has also included a new PureMotion 3D feature that reduces judder for both 2D and 3D content. The connection panel also includes dual HDMI ports as well as an assortment of analog ports. The HD33 comes with an IR emitter, but the 3D glasses need to be purchased separately.

Epson Unveils VS410 and VS350W Projectors

Epson is proud to announce today two new low-cost projectors, the VS410 and VS350W. The VS410 is the brighter of the two, featuring a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution and 4000 ANSI lumens. The VS350W comes with a widescreen WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution and 3500 ANSI lumens, which is still bright enough for most boardrooms and classrooms. Specifications are limited at this time, but the company did state that both projectors will include a USB port for Plug ‘n Play compatibility. Other features include an E-TORL lamp that lasts 4000 hours, dual 5W speakers, and an A/V Mute Slide. Epson will release these projectors next month for $899 and $949, respectively.

Christie Provides Digital Projectors to Bow-Tie Cinemas

Bow-Tie Cinemas is a preeminent, privately-owned motion picture exhibitor in the U.S. Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Today, they announced an agreement with Christie who will be providing 115 projectors for several new screen conversions. The projectors will be from Christie’s Solaria series and include the CP2220 and the CP2230.

NEC is a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions. Today, the company was happy to announce that they have deployed almost 400 NEC digital cinema projectors for the top four Minnesota-based theater chains. The companies include Cinema Entertainment Corp. (CEC), Mann Theatres of Minnesota, Muller Family Theatres and United Entertainment and they have all asked NEC to convert their theaters with the latest digital theater equipment.

Apple may be working on pico-projector technology that could be used with its iPhone and Mac products according to a patent filing discovered by UnwiredView. The patent, titled “Projected display shared workspaces,” shows how one might be able to use an iPhone or Mac to project content onto a larger open space, such as a wall, by attaching a small pico-projector. In addition, users could control the projection using multitouch gestures on their iPhone screen or Mac trackpad. The patent reminds us of AT&Ts LG eXpo, which had its own projector accessory but wasn’t much of a hit with consumers. Read on for a second image from Apple’s patent.

Mitsubishi announced today two new projectors that are finally available to the retail market, the XD360U-EST and WD380U-EST. The XD360U is capable of displaying 2500 ANSI lumens, a 3000:1 contrast ratio, and a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. The WD380U is a little more powerful with 2800 ANSI lumens, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. The main feature that both projectors share is their 3D capability. We were pretty impressed when we got the chance to gaze at HDI 3D's silky smooth, 43-inch 3D LCD last year, which is why our eyes widened when the company announced that it's begun producing a new line of 3D projectors, slated for release as early as 2012. First up in the awkwardly named Laser-Driven 2D/3D Switchable Dynamic Video Projector series is the LSS Pro 1 (pictured above) -- a tank that's powered by as many as two Laser-Drive Engines and capable of displaying both 2D and 3D images on HDI's 300 inch Laser Silver Screen.

Runco is known for their high-quality projectors - a factor that tends to reflect in the cost. The LS-1 is a bit different though. That's not to say it's not a quality projector, but at $3,995 it's affordable to those that normally wouldn't be able to swing a Runco. The newest in the LightStyle series, the LS-1 offers a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and uses technologies like SuperOnyx, Constant Contrast and ViVix digital video processing to achieve deep black levels. It utilizes the ISF calibration suite which allows the projector to be customized for the room.

This time last year, Vivitek unveiled their D8300 projector, which is one of their biggest large venue projectors. Today, the company has finally released this device to the consumer market. The D8300 can display full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 6500 ANSI lumens, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. The device has been given a diverse connection panel that includes dual HDMI, a RGB, composite, s-video, component, and a 5BNC. There are also two 12V trigger ports to connect to automated devices. Vivitek did not release a retail price for the D8300 at this time.

The XV-Z17000 from Sharp was first announced in the USA september 2010 for a 2011 Launch. Made first for the US market, Sharp Japan announced however that they will bring later this month this new 3D DLP projector in Japan as well.
The XV-Z17000, comes with HDMI 1.4a, a 30,000:1 contrast ratio, a 1,600 ANSI Lumens brightness, a pair of 3D Glasses and will be sold at around 400,000 Yen here in Japan.

Optoma has announced recently the release of their latest pico projector, the PK120. This is the third generation for the company and it is capable of displaying 18 ANSI lumens, a 640 x 360 resolution, and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. While that might not sound very powerful compared to other models, this device is designed more for portability and affordability.
