Apple has just released iOS 5 beta 6 to its registered developers after only two weeks since the release of beta 5, which revealed a possible voice control feature. The company is charging full steam ahead although it seems the deadline is now less urgent. Originally rumored for September, the release of the platform along with the iPhone 5 are now speculated for early October.

HP was painfully aware of the TouchPad‘s hardware shortcomings, insider sources have suggested, with ports of webOS running “over twice as fast” on Apple’s iPad 2. While initial reviews – ours included – complained of occasional sluggishness from the TouchPad’s 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon APQ8060 processor, webOS engineers within HP were also supposedly vocal in their complaints about the hardware, The Next Web‘s tipster whispered to them.

It probably goes without saying and is not really unexpected, but it is still nice to have Eldar ‘confirm’ Nokia Vertu handsets running Windows Phone 7 are coming.
Vertu handsets tend to be covered in gold and jewels, but still run the creaky Symbian OS inside.
Would any of out readers be tempted to splash out on a Vertu if it ran our favourite OS, or would it still be too tasteless. Let us know below.

While the cloud is great and all, the highest bandwidth connection is between one’s windows phone 7 handset and the desktop (or laptop) right next to it, and users have been complaining for most of the last year about not being able to take advantage of that to sync documents, contacts and other scenarios.

What looks to be Samsung's roadmap for the rest of 2011 has made its way on to the internet, including details of the GT-I9220, Samsung's first Ice Cream Sandwich handset.
Alongside the much-anticipated Android upgrade, it comes rocking a massive 4.65-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1280x720 pixel resolution.
Aside from the fact that it sports a 5MP camera, other details on this telecommunications behemoth are scarce, but we suspect it may well turn out to be the next flagship Android handset – Google Nexus Prime, anyone?

Following earlier reports that HP will be discontinuing its webOS ecosystem of devices, including the Veer, Pre3, and TouchPad, an insider source has informed Thisismynext that the company will not be abandoning the platform entirely. The source revealed details from an all-hands meeting held with HP employees in the webOS Global Business Unit that indicate the platform could still live on through licensing.

While Microsoft is busy readying the much talked about Windows 8 for release, a new patent application has popped up that could reveal even bigger -- or at least faster -- things to come. According to the filing for "Fast Machine Booting Through Streaming Storage," which was submitted in February of last year and released last week, Redmond is looking at creating a system that could stream an entire OS to just about anything with a screen. The proposed setup would enlist a series of storage devices, both remote and local, to act as a virtual hard disk, allowing anything from a set top box to a tablet to boot almost instantaneously. We recently reported that the HTC DROID Incredible might not be getting upgraded to Android 2.3. However, according to Android Central, Verizon was ready to send out the update yesterday to 10,000 DROID Incredible users, followed by 50,000 today and the remaining owners of the device on Friday. Unfortunately, it seems that Big Red has put the kibosh on a Gingerbread snack for the HTC DROID Incredible as it appears that the software needs more work.

The fact that Nokia and Acer are busily preparing Windows Phones is no secret, but Sea Ray and W4 may not be the manufacturers' only projects. Elbert Perez, a Windows Phone game developer with a keen eye for statistics, was looking through a list of the various devices that run his games, and a couple gems stood out -- the Nokia 800 and Acer M310.
