We all know that support for USB 3.0 on Windows computers today isn’t nearly as wide spread as most of us would like. The main reason for this is that there is still no chipsets with USB 3.0 controllers onboard. The maker of the mainboard has to use a third party chipset to enable USB 3.0 support. Microsoft is now promising that Windows 8 will have robust USB 3.0 support.

HTC Windows Phone Mango devices landing September 1

HTC is hitting London next week to show off future devices and Windows Phone will be top of the agenda, according to BGR. It claims to have heard from a little birdie within HTC headquarters that two Windows Phone Mango devices will make their debut on September 1.
Sadly there’s not a lot of new details to feast on. The source simply says the HTC Eternity (which was leaked last month) will have a 3.7in screen while the HTC Omega (which also popped up in July) will sport a 4.5in display.

If you have an Acer Iconia Tab A500 or A501 tablet that launched with Android 3.0 Honeycomb onboard an update should be landing soon that will take the tablet to the latest version of Android. The update brings the A500 or A501 to Android 3.2. The update is supposedly rolling out as we speak in Poland. If you have one of these tablets in the US or other countries and have been able to download the update let us know.

What would happen if the HP TouchPad could run Android instead of its native webOS platform? Although it was not originally meant to do that, in terms of hardware, the tablet is more than capable of booting Google's operating system, and there is already a team of developers trying to turn this crazy idea into reality.

Nokia is about to launch the next version of Symbian - Symbian Belle - according to a teaser which the company has inadvertently confirmed on its Facebook fan page.
The teaser which simply says: “It’s almost time to try something new” has a countdown timer with (at time of writing) 46 hours 56 minutes and 30 seconds to go.
That end time gives us a Wednesday 24 August launch, the “something new” announcement presumably set for 1:45pm GMT.

Why isn’t Chrome a part of Android? It’s a question as old as time itself. Or at least a few years old. But given that the same company, Google, makes both products, it never made much sense. Now they’re finally taking steps to resolve this. A bit. Maybe.
As a group of Googlers have announced on the WebKit-Dev group today (relayed by Google’s Peter Beverloo), the Android team is now committed to working more closely with the WebKit community. Yes, it’s a bit odd that a product so devoted to “open” wasn’t really working with the open source community before — but hey, better late than never.

A thousand webOS developers flocking to Windows Phone 7

I don’t know how many developers webOS claimed, but that number is likely at least 1000 smaller, with more than 1000 webOS developers responding to Brandon Watson’s call for them to take up Windows Phone 7 development following HP’s assassination of webOS.
The call had been widely covered in the media, and is even pulling in developers from other platforms, including Android and Symbian.

Evernote for iOS updated with rich text support, password security

Popular note-taking service Evernote has updated its iOS app for the iPhone and iPad with a number of new features that bring it to parity with the Windows Phone and Android versions of the app. Most notably, the Evernote app for iOS now supports rich text editing and password security options.
Apparently adding rich text support to the iOS version of Evernote was not as easy as it was on other platforms, so the company is quite excited about it. With rich text editing, you can add styled text, such as bold, italicized, or underlined text, highlight existing text, add URLs, create header text, and make lists.

The quick demise of HP’s webOS hardware business might have shocked many, but Microsoft has been quick to react to the new realities by offering free Windows Phone 7 handsets and training to published webOS devs.
"To any published webOS [developers]," Microsoft’s Brandon Watson said on Twitter as HP took the industry by surprise on Friday. "We'll give you what you need to be successful on Windows Phone, including free phones, dev tools, and training, etc."

Dropbox, now Lion friendly

Dropbox, the cloud based file sharing service for Macs, PCs, and mobile phones, has quietly rolled out an update for Mac OS X Lion users, bringing back a number of features that they’ve probably been missing.
The new update includes integration support for Mac OS X Lion 10.7, and a fix from 1.2.x; a rare issue (from 1.2.x) where certain Mac OS X machines wouldn't upload files automatically. There's also another fix of a bug from 1.2.x that caused the tray menu to become unresponsive on certain Linux machines.

Sonos promises Lion fix

Sonos has said that it has found the bug that is stopping users from streaming music to its multi-room wireless system when using Apple’s new operating system, Mac OS X Lion.
The bug, which breaks music playback, has left Apple users sitting in silence (if they wanted to listen to their own music), however it has been isolated and is being fixed promises Andrew Schulert, vice president of Quality.

Microsoft: Windows Phone Mango Is Done, Manufacturers Just Need To Release It

Well, this is something new. Here in the tech world, we hear about delay after delay — but very rarely does a company step out and say: “Hey! We’re ahead of schedule!”
Today, Microsoft was that company, and the product was Windows Phone 7 Mango.
Peter Wissinger, Microsoft’s director of Mobile Business in the Nordic countries, today released an official statement on Mango’s status:
“Now it’s up to our manufacturing partners to release Mango to our customers. Microsoft has delivered complete Mango earlier than planned to the manufacturers. Feels good now.”
