We’ve seen the latest reports from Canalys and comScore and both show just how well the Android operating system is doing these days (pretty well) and Gartner’s latest report shows much of the same. We can't stop iPhone rumors any more than we can stop the seasons or the tides, especially when those rumors focus on the mythical low-cost iPhone which consumers have been calling for since the iPhone first launched. The newest rumor comes from Apple 'n' Apps Trevor Sheridan, who says he spoke with 3 sources "connected to Apple". Not the most to work with, but it'll have to do.

Alleged Ice Cream Sandwich screenshots leaked

It seems too good to be true, and probably is: the first screenshots of the next major Android OS update, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), have supposedly leaked, but certainly don't look too convincing. Ice Cream Sandwich is the update which will merge Android's phone OS (Gingerbread) with the tablet OS (Honeycomb), and bring what many expect as a unifying presence to Android. The images show what is supposedly ICS running on a Nexus S.

T-Mobile begins rollout of G-Slate Android 3.1 Honeycomb update

The T-Mobile G-Slate is catching up with the Joneses, that is if the Joneses are the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Motorola XOOM, as it is now being updated to Android 3.1 Honeycomb. The update adds Google Videos support, resizable widgets, USB accessory support, and an expanded recent apps list. T-Mobile is rolling out the update in a staggered fashion, and users should get a notification when it is ready to be downloaded and installed. T-Mobile makes a point to say that it cannot expedite the rollout of the update, so if you don't get it right away, you will just have to be patient and wait it out.

Google Videos, the official app to playback movies rented from the Android Market, has been updated today to be compatible with phones running Android 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread. Users can rent movies from the Android Market for 24 hours with prices starting at $2.99. Seems pricey to us, but can you really put a price on that kind of convenience?

Android developers getting underpaid due to a software glitch

If you were a hardworking software developer building popular and well-selling apps, you would be pretty frustrated, to say the least, if you realized one day that you are getting underpaid for your work, right? That is pretty much what is going on at camp Android right now – a number of software developers are reporting that the amount of money they are being paid through Google Checkout for their software does not match the number of times their apps have been purchased from the Android Market.

Rumor: Ice Cream Sandwich coming in October

The Android faithful may be getting their hands on the company’s next mobile operating system sooner than anticipated. If true, we should expect to see the launch of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich as early as October.
The latest Android rumor comes from BGR who has been tipped off by “a source with knowledge of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich plans”. Although no solid information is given on the source or the new OS, the rumor does seem like a logical move for Google.

Nokia president and head of North American operations, Chris Weber (no, not the former NBA star) has laid down the gauntlet. In an interview yesterday, the Nokia executive said that Windows Phone 7 makes iOS and Android look outdated. Weber says the big difference between the platforms is that while iOS and Android are built around apps, Windows Phone 7 is built around a user's contacts making things easier and quicker with some functions requiring fewer steps.

FTC looking at Android in Google probe

The Federal Trade Commission will be taking a hard look at how Google controls Android in its antitrust investigation, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.
The governmental agency is looking at Google’s search practices too but what interests us is that the FTC is going to find out whether the search giant is disallowing handset makers and carriers to use competing services with the Android platform. Remember, the Android platform has grown from 0 percent of the market to more than 40 percent in just a few short years, so its importance is evident.

While not in the realm of some of Sony Ericsson's gaffes -- as far as pulled images and news, that is -- Google did its level best by throwing up a new version of its integrated search app for Android and then promptly pulling it. Not to be forgotten amongst the heap of newer Honeycomb tablets that are on the market, the 3D video recording capable T-Mobile G-Slate is more than likely to start receiving its Honeycomb 3.1 tasting tomorrow; August 10th.
Actually, LG says that they’ll be rolling it out some time today, but device owners would more than likely see it come in tomorrow – especially when it’s being rolled out in waves. Either way, it’s expected to arrive over the course of the next few days for the majority of people.
