iOS 5 landing on October 10th, iPhone 5 on October 15th?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsAppleiPhone 4siOS 5
AppleInsider is reporting that AppleCare has been informed to prepare for a swarm of inquiries on or around October 10th regarding iOS. And no, I don’t think it’s because people are suddenly going to forget how to use their iPhones and iPads that day. The report signals the release of the highly anticipated iOS 5 and iPhone 5.
Now, it’s important to note that AppleInsider’s credibility has often been hit or miss. In fact, we have a bit of a warning:
“While AppleInsider cannot verify the accuracy of the information provided, the tip did include specific details on call volumes that suggest the details are at least plausible. However, since the details come from an unproven source, the informa...

iOS 5 gold master to reach iPhone 5 last week of September
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsAppleiPhone 4siOS 5
Apple is expected to ship the finished version of iOS 5 to manufacturers the last week of September, Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo understood from sources on Monday. The current schedule would have the iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod touch get the completed (gold master) OS between September 23 and 30. He explained to AppleInsider that, with preloaded firmware, the devices should take about 10 to 12 days to ship and will conveniently line up with an iPhone 5 release in the first half of October.
Large-scale assembly is believed to have started in late August without available firmware. It's unclear how many will be ready on launch day and whether Apple will have enough to suppor...

Google Music launches on iOS as a beta web app
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleGoogleiOS 4
Google Music Beta seems like the most logical thing to have on Android - after all it allows you uploading some 20,000 tracks to the Google cloud and use them from almost any device, and almost was partly constituted by the hoard of iOS device users, which have been missing an app.

Google’s cloud music service now available on iOS
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleGoogleiOS 4iOS 5
The Google Music service that launched back at Google I/O will now work on iOS devices, including both iPhones and iPads. The service has generated very little buzz since its inception and still remains in a private beta stage. However, the service had been rumored for months before its launch and is Google’s first major attempt to rival Amazon’s Cloud Player and Apple’s iTunes with iCloud.
Google struggled with securing licensing deals with major record label companies, causing several delays, and ultimately decided to launch it without much music industry support. Hence, Google Music operates similar to Amazon’s Cloud Player as a digital locker for mp3s rather than a fully integrated music...

Apple now training employees on iOS 5, iCloud?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleiOS 5
Apple is said to have begun training store employees on how to use iOS 5 and iCloud in preparation for what is likely the iPhone 5’s pending announcement and launch. Both iOS 5 and iCloud are expected this fall and a new operating system traditionally coincides with the launch of new hardware.
Apple blog 9to5Mac got their hands on a couple of photos from Apple’s RetailMe iPad application that is used to train store employees on new software. The first image shows a portion of the Daily Download, a newspaper for employees. In this section, we can see that iOS 5 and iCloud are both “just around the corner” and that Apple will be preparing a series covering everything customers will need to kno...

Spotify Wants to Bake Itself Into All Your iOS Apps

Spotify Wants to Bake Itself Into All Your iOS Apps
Spotify's been up for nearly two months, and it's shown amazing growth. Now it wants to find its way into everything else you do on your iPhone by handing developers and Premium users the new Spotify API.
Called libspotify 9, the code will allow the program to live inside any app developers can think of. Spotify sessions are already handled pretty well by iOS multitasking, but, as excellent as the app is, you tend to have to leave what you're doing to change playlists. By sticking the functionality into games, for instance, you won't have to jump out of what you're doing in the middle of a campaign. Pretty neat.

Snow Leopard to get iCloud support in 10.6.9 update?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleMac OS X 10.6
Apparently those of you who aren't upgrading to Cupertino's latest and greatest desktop OS will be able to sling bits through iCloud with the upcoming 10.6.9 update. The screenshot above comes via an eagle-eyed developer, who's already upgraded his MobileMe account to the service and also happened to open its forebearer's preference pane on a machine running Tiger. No word on when it'll drop (we'd place our bets alongside iOS 5's launch this fall), but looks like those of you running Snow Leopard got some readin' to do.

SkyDrive To Make Its Way Into iOS,Android And Mac Along With Windows
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftAppleGoogle
We posted, a few days ago about a SkyDrive app for Windows Phone 7supposedly demoed at TechEd NZ. Now it seems the scope of the project may be even bigger.
I don’t know how many of you have used Live Mesh from Microsoft which was discontinued last year. Its an awesome service started with great vision from former executive of Microsoft Mr. Ray Ozzie. It was his pet project actually. Its a file synchronization platform, which syncs your files across devices and the concept of Live Desktop allows you to view your synced files online such as pictures. You can create synced folders and add files to it in any of the devices, it may be a PC or Mac or even a mobile device with mesh client. Live Me...

Evernote for iOS updated with rich text support, password security
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleiOS 4
Popular note-taking service Evernote has updated its iOS app for the iPhone and iPad with a number of new features that bring it to parity with the Windows Phone and Android versions of the app. Most notably, the Evernote app for iOS now supports rich text editing and password security options.
Apparently adding rich text support to the iOS version of Evernote was not as easy as it was on other platforms, so the company is quite excited about it. With rich text editing, you can add styled text, such as bold, italicized, or underlined text, highlight existing text, add URLs, create header text, and make lists.

Dropbox, now Lion friendly
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleMac OS X 10.7
Dropbox, the cloud based file sharing service for Macs, PCs, and mobile phones, has quietly rolled out an update for Mac OS X Lion users, bringing back a number of features that they’ve probably been missing.
The new update includes integration support for Mac OS X Lion 10.7, and a fix from 1.2.x; a rare issue (from 1.2.x) where certain Mac OS X machines wouldn't upload files automatically. There's also another fix of a bug from 1.2.x that caused the tray menu to become unresponsive on certain Linux machines.

Sonos promises Lion fix
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleSonosMac OS X 10.7
Sonos has said that it has found the bug that is stopping users from streaming music to its multi-room wireless system when using Apple’s new operating system, Mac OS X Lion.
The bug, which breaks music playback, has left Apple users sitting in silence (if they wanted to listen to their own music), however it has been isolated and is being fixed promises Andrew Schulert, vice president of Quality.
“First things first. We’d like to apologise. We know that not being able to use your Sonos system with Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) has been a real drag,” the VP says in a letter on the company’s forum. “The long and the short of it. We began beta testing earlier this week and if all goes well, we expe...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleiOS 5
Apple has just released iOS 5 beta 6 to its registered developers after only two weeks since the release of beta 5, which revealed a possible voice control feature. The company is charging full steam ahead although it seems the deadline is now less urgent. Originally rumored for September, the release of the platform along with the iPhone 5 are now speculated for early October.
