Android 4.0.3 now available for T-Mobile Galaxy S II, get it while it's cold

Posted on Jun 12, 2012 by MG1

It may be late in the evening here in the States, but for T-Mobile users, your time in the sun has finally arrived -- Android 4.0.3 is now available via Samsung Kies for the Galaxy S II. According to the carrier, the update won't be made available via an OTA download, which means that if you don't have a PC, you'd best shake down a friend at this late hour -- or, at least give 'em a call in the morning. In addition to Ice Cream Sandwich, the update is said to bring WiFi calling improvements and enhancements to the voicemail system. It'd also be wise to ensure that your phone's software is up-to-date before you begin, as Android 2.3.6 is a prerequisite of the upgrade. Ready to dive in? Just h...

Posted on Jun 12, 2012 by MG1

While AT&T has confirmed the future availability of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, the nation’s second largest carrier has not announced a release date. Last week it was reported that the device may be available on June 18th, but when preordering the handset as an AT&T Premier customer, the carrier indicates that the Galaxy S III will arrive “on or before” June 21st, Droid Matters reports. The highly anticipated smartphone will also launch on T-Mobile and Sprint on the same date. An AT&T spokesman declined to comment.

Droid Incredbile 4G LTE signage arrives at some Verizon Wireless stores

Droid Incredbile 4G LTE signage arrives at some Verizon Wireless stores

Posted on Jun 12, 2012 by MG1

The Droid Incredible was announced earlier this year by Verizon Wireless without a solid launch date. Rumors point to a June 21st launch, but there has been no solid information supporting this estimated launch date until now. According to Droid-Life, select Verizon Wireless stores received marketing materials for the next generation Incredible handset over the weekend. This doesn’t confirm the launch date, but its timing would fit in perfectly with a mid-June launch.

T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 710 now available on Pre-Paid

T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 710 now available on Pre-Paid

Posted on Jun 11, 2012 by MG1

The Nokia Lumia 710 is now available on Pre-Paid on T-Mobile USA where it costs only $249.99 with $50 refill, bringing the actual cost down only to $199. The handset is also available in store on Bestbuy where it is retailing for $299.
The handset appears to be the best specced from the Pre-Paid devices in the price range, with most offering 3 megapixel cameras, WVGA screens and Android 2.3, and some even running 600 Mhz processors, which we all know is buttery smooth on Android.
Nokia has the logistic scale to be able to compete in the low-end and still make money, so hopefully their handsets will get the recognition they deserve for the great value for money they deliver.

Dropbox confirms Galaxy S III on AT&T and Verizon won't include 50GB storage

Dropbox confirms Galaxy S III on AT&T and Verizon won't include 50GB storage

Posted on Jun 11, 2012 by MG1

If that extra Dropbox storage helped swing the Galaxy S III pendulum in your favor, and you're a customer of AT&T or Verizon, it's not good news. Droid Life reports that one such expectant customer was asking Dropbox, via its forums, where their storage was. The cloud-space provider informed them that not all carriers are offering the deal, with those two big hitters being among them. This is further confirmed elsewhere on its support pages (check the source). So, just as we thought operators were loosening their grip, it seems some old habits don't die so easily.

Samsung Galaxy Note getting Ice Cream Sandwich update across the UK

Samsung Galaxy Note getting Ice Cream Sandwich update across the UK

Posted on Jun 11, 2012 by MG1

Good news for the UK-based Galaxy Note owners, with Samsung pushing out the Ice Cream Sandwich update as we speak. The rather big 349MB download not only makes your phablet run the latest version of Android, but also brings a number of enhancements and exclusive apps only users with devices as large as the Note can truly appreciate.
Still don’t see it? Don’t worry, this sort of updates are usually rolled out in stages and soon enough you’ll get your serving of everyone’s favorite candy (at least for the time being).

Huawei Activa 4G gets your 4G LTE fix on MetroPCS for $149 contract-free

Huawei Activa 4G gets your 4G LTE fix on MetroPCS for $149 contract-free

Posted on Jun 11, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Cell PhonesHuawei

MetroPCS is known for offering 4G LTE smartphones on the cheap, but it's going for a record today. The Activa 4G isn't just Huawei's first LTE smartphone in the US, it's temporarily the least expensive LTE phone in the country at $149 contract-free for a "limited time." Digging around, it's certainly possible to find out how Huawei and MetroPCS reached that price: the 3.5-inch, 320 x 480 screen, 800MHz processor and five-megapixel rear shooter won't have Verizon Galaxy S III customers developing second thoughts. Still, there is a front VGA camera on the Android 2.3-toting phone, and MetroPCS preloads a copy of the movie Kung-Fu Panda 2 on the bundled 4GB microSD card. You won't have to wait ...

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 available now in the UK for tiny hands and the people that have them

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 available now in the UK for tiny hands and the people that have them

Posted on Jun 08, 2012 by MG1

A Mini 2 to migrate you (okay, your Mum) from dumb to smart? That's just what Samsung intends to do as it makes the 3.27-inch Galaxy phone available across the UK this week. The wee Gingerbread handset, sporting a colorful sunny yellow plastic backing, is dressed to impress, but that's because this low-ender doesn't fuss with the specs. Under that cheerful casing lies a single-core 800MHz CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB of storage and a 1,300mAh battery that should prove adequate for this pocket-sized affair. The company's certainly wary of how this slight fella might be perceived, so it's gone above and beyond the call of PR duty (see below) to make sure the world knows this is a phone for first-timers...

Sprint's Palm C40: the Pre 2 that never made it

Sprint's Palm C40: the Pre 2 that never made it

Posted on Jun 08, 2012 by MG1

Take a look through the trousers of time at what might have been; a Palm Pre 2 on Sprint. WebOSNation managed to grab the very rare prototype from a Palm employee and it fortunately worked on the Now Network without the need for any screwdrivers or warranty busting. Despite its second-hand status, the phone cheerfully handled webOS 2.2.4, albeit without a licensed webOS Doctor. Aside from the swap to a CDMA radio, the rest of phone hardware chimes with the Verizon version that did arrive. A handful of bloatware Sprint apps are on the device, including a ringtone store -- how quaint! Take a closer look at the source below.

Motorola DROID BIONIC receives some enhancements with its latest maintenance update

Motorola DROID BIONIC receives some enhancements with its latest maintenance update

Posted on Jun 08, 2012 by MG1

Although it’s far from being the shiniest thing out of Motorola’s stable, the already aging DROID BIONIC is still receiving some love in the form of a new over-the-air update. Verizon Wireless customers still holding dearly to the smartphone, in light of some recent ones, should be seeing that notification hitting their device right about now.
Bringing the smartphone up to version 5.9.905, it brings forth a few enhancements that should no doubt keep existing owners content enough to still call the device their own. From the looks of it all, the maintenance update features the following items:
