Nokia 808 PureView with 41MP camera is headed for America

Posted on Jun 19, 2012 by MG1

The Nokia 808 PureView smartphone is coming to the United States. It’s famous for having a 41MP camera sensor that snaps amazingly high quality photos and is sure to make photographers drool.
Later this week, buyers will be able to pre-order the device on Amazon. It won’t be tied with any carrier or contracts so you’ll have to purchase it at full-retail price. Nokia is pricing the PureView at $699, which won’t be an easy sell. It’s loaded with the Symbian OS and you’ll have to make sure you have a compatible AT&T SIM Card. It works with T-Mobile’s network, too, but only at sluggish 2G speeds.
The camera technology in the 808 PureView, which people have been so excited about, is a 41MP lens t...

Nokia Lumia 610 coming to China Unicom, Elop slips details in conference call

Posted on Jun 18, 2012 by MG1

Chinese residents not willing to fork out for Nokia's flagship just got another option, the Lumia 610. China Unicom will be offering the littlest (and most recent) Lumia device, according to Stephen Elop, who managed to sneak the announcement into an at-times grim conference call held yesterday. While we knew the device was headed to all places Pacific, the device now looks set to join existing smartphone options on 3G (presumably low-price) plans. Interested? Then you may want to revisit our review for our thoughts on Nokia's humbly-priced handset.

HTC One S drops to $99 at Best Buy and $49 at T-Mobile

HTC One S drops to $99 at Best Buy and $49 at T-Mobile

Posted on Jun 15, 2012 by MG1

Two pretty sweet deals are taking place right now for the HTC One S Android handset. The device has dropped in price significantly at both Best Buy and T-Mobile, selling for $99.99 and $49.99 respectively with a two-year contract.
Note that the sale at T-Mobile will require you to pay $99.99 up front for the phone and then get your $50 back via mail-in rebate. If you’re like me and absolutely despise rebates, Best Buy is the better option. The sale price of the One S at T-Mobile is part of an even bigger Father’s Day sale going on in which many of the Android smartphones are discounted or made completely free as long as you glue yourself to the network for two years.

Nokia 808 PureView arrives fashionably late in India, 41MP in tow

Nokia 808 PureView arrives fashionably late in India, 41MP in tow

Posted on Jun 14, 2012 by MG1

After initially announcing it would come in May, and then dropping a countdown red herring, the PureView is finally opening its big 808-eye in India today. The 41MP camera (and phone!) lands with a 33,899 Rupee ($600) MSRP, depending on your barter skills. The PureView might not be a spec heavyweight, with its single-core 1.3GHz chip, 512MB RAM and 360 x 640 display, but we still found it hummed along smartly with its nimble Symbian Belle OS. For those of you who've already set the cash aside, might be time to call that Indian friend.

Droid RAZR MAXX sales: iPhone 4S no longer king at Verizon

Droid RAZR MAXX sales: iPhone 4S no longer king at Verizon

Posted on Jun 14, 2012 by MG1

Given the iPhone’s popularity, it must be the top-selling smartphone on the top three major U.S. wireless carriers, right? Not so fast, says William Blair analyst Anil Doradla, who penned a note to investors this week stating that the Droid RAZR MAXX is now the best-selling smartphone on Verizon even though the iPhone maintains its top spot at AT&T and Sprint. This doesn’t mean that Doradla is down on Apple as a whole, of course, as Barron’s reports that the analyst is “unfazed” by slipping sales at Verizon and still maintains his Outperform rating on shares of Apple stock. There are some good reasons that the iPhone might not be selling as well as high-end Android handsets on Verizon, with ...

HTC One S deal: price down to $100 on Best Buy

HTC One S deal: price down to $100 on Best Buy

Posted on Jun 14, 2012 by MG1

T-Mobile’s HTC One S is one of the carrier’s best Android offers for the moment, and it’s likely to remain so for a couple of weeks until the Samsung Galaxy S III launches, but now there’s one more reason to buy the One S - it’s price dropped to $99.99 on a 2-year contract on Best Buy.
The One S deal is good for both new T-Mobile customers and for upgraders, and will run for a limited time.
There’s no catch if you don’t count the fact that you have to order online as most brick and morter Best Buy stores don’t have T-Mobile handsets for sale. Hit the source link below to get the One S for a good price while the deal lasts.

New 'Apple-neutral' Samsung Galaxy S III commercial airs

New 'Apple-neutral' Samsung Galaxy S III commercial airs

Posted on Jun 14, 2012 by MG1

Samsung and Apple have been going at it for seemingly an eternity. Both rip each other in the press, courtroom, and commercials – especially in Samsung’s case. The Korean based manufacturer is notorious for producing ads that take shots at Apple. This known fact tends to irk many technology fans, because the company should be spending its money and time illustrating to folks why its products are better.
This time around, Samsung has chosen a different path. The company’s Galaxy S III commercial focuses on its new tagline: “Designed for Humans.” Ironically, Apple finds this slogan in their words “Too narrow.”

Sony outs Xperia Ion HSPA for poor 4G-lacking citizens

Sony outs Xperia Ion HSPA for poor 4G-lacking citizens

Posted on Jun 13, 2012 by MG1

Sony Mobile casually dropped onto its website that in addition to the expected Xperia Ion flagship, it's also releasing an Xperia Ion HSPA. The handset's only readily apparent feature is its reduced modem, and in every other way looks to match its 4G-enabled brother, with a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 12-megapixel camera and Gingerbread. Whilst its designed to consume the same AT&T friendly frequencies, this one's destined for a rest-of-the-world arrival to sate the lust of global Sony fans in countries where they do everything a little slower.

Judge says launch of Samsung Galaxy S III will proceed on June 21st

Judge says launch of Samsung Galaxy S III will proceed on June 21st

Posted on Jun 13, 2012 by MG1

Apple has tried hard to throw a wrench into the upcoming launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III in the States. Already proclaimed the fastest selling gadget of all time with 9 million units pre-sold not including the U.S. and Canada, the Cupertino based firm has had its top legal minds ready to toss in any motion at the eleventh hour, seeking to stop the release of the handset.
Instead, the plan just might have backfired as Judge Lucy Koh said late Monday that Apple's push to get an injunction on the Samsung Galaxy S III would overload her calendar especially since she is presiding over another Apple suit against other Samsung products. And Koh's decision has nothing to do with the merits of the...

HTC One X suffering Wi-Fi connectivity issues

HTC One X suffering Wi-Fi connectivity issues

Posted on Jun 13, 2012 by MG1

A design flaw is interfering with users' ability to connect the HTC One X with a Wi-Fi source. The One X seemingly has several Wi-Fi-related problems that either drain the battery rapidly or render it completely unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network. HTC is reportedly aware of the issue, and is asking for feedback to help the engineering team resolve the problem.
Users can test their devices by gently squeezing the back of the phone between the camera lens and voume buttons. If the Wi-Fi signal strength improves, only to drop when releasing the grip, then the the device is affected by the connectivity bug. The suggested primary fix is returning the phone to the supplier as a "dead on arrival"...

Sony Xperia tipo, Xperia tipo dual are announced with entry-level written all over

Posted on Jun 13, 2012 by MG1

The Sony Xperia tipo, which was previously known by its Tapioca codename, is now finally official. What we have on our hands is a low-end Android smartphone suitable for first-time smartphone owners. It comes in a single- or dual-SIM flavor, with the latter called the Sony Xperia tipo dual.
Interested in specs? Well, here they are: the Sony Xperia tipo and its dual-SIM brother have a 3.2-inch HVGA (320x480) display made out of scratch-resistant mineral glass. Inside it runs an 800MHz single-core Qualcomm processor, and on the back we have a 3.2-megapixel camera. Nothing earth-shattering, we know, yet on the bright side, the smartphone would likely be quite competitively priced. What is reall...

Here’s how carriers test their coverage in places where no vehicles can go

Here’s how carriers test their coverage in places where no vehicles can go

Posted on Jun 13, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Cell Phones

If your dream job is not half-laying/half-sitting in front of a computer from 9 to 5, this here unique job in the telecom business might be somewhat of an enlightenment for you. “Pedestrian tester” is the name of the rare type of a telecoms employee who has to go through the hardship of slowly walking around streets, parks, but mostly areas where vehicles can’t get into like malls, and carry five separate phones for testing a carrier’s network. That’s for the sole purpose of having tests from those hard to reach locations go to the carrier, so it could make fixes where needed.
Slowly walking is key - he has to imitate the average user who might be moving at a snail-speed while typing, or jus...
