Droid RAZR soak test suddenly shifts to ICS test?

We reported last week that the Droid RAZR soak test was not going to include Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich. Today, the story got more complicated. A tipster speaking to Droid-Life suggested that ICS was inserted at a late date into the soak test. Apparently, the admin of the Motorola soak test forum said the following:
Looks like we got a surprise people. This regular soak test has now turned into an official soak test for Android 4.0 also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Please subscribe to this feed for updates and more information will be posted as soon as possible.

Best Buy says ICS for the RAZR delayed, Rezound still on for Friday

Droid-Life got ahold of an internal employee memo Best Buy sent out yesterday, updating employees on the status of Ice Cream Sandwich updates for some of Verizon’s most popular phones. First, Best Buy told employees what we already reported to you – that the updates headed to the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX aren’t going to be ICS, they will be bug fixes.
We’re not sure that translates as ICS being “delayed”; there was never anything but speculation that today’s soak test for RAZR devices would be Android 4.0, so Best Buy may have simply jumped the gun with their previous announcement.

Motorola DROID RAZR and Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX soak test to start on Thursday

The soak test for the Motorola DROID RAZR and the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX will begin on Thursday. The new software version is 6.12.181 and includes a large number of fixes as the manufacturer tries to get the models ready for the upcoming Android 4.0 update.
Among the items listed on the changelist for the update is an optimization of device performance to improve battery life, which does sound redundant with the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX. The update will bring a new MotoCast widget to allow easier access to MotoCast files. Also, you should notice an improvement in MotoCast performance. Storage settings have been changed to clarify total, available, and used storage space.

Motorola GLEAM+ shimmies onto shelves, into European pockets

There are many typographical accoutrements manufacturers can hang on existing product names to let you know that this one's different, better. Motorola's plumped for the humble "+" to let us know this isn't just any Gleam, it's a new, improved beast. So what's changed since last time? Well, it's dropped a dress size first of all, measuring 0.4mm thinner than its elder sibling, and that dot-matrix style outer display now stands much taller. The main screen also jumps from 2.4- to 2.8-inches, sporting a 400 x 240, WQVGA resolution. So, if you're a fan of the form-factor, and live in Europe (it still only has that dual band GSM radio) then you can get your mitts on it from today.

Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx set to hit Europe and Middle East in May

While Stateside folks have been enjoying the thicker, but longer lasting RAZR Maxx for a few months now, those from across the pond have been missing out. Good news is you won't have to wait it out on the sidelines much longer, as Motorola's announced the extra juice-packing Maxx is set to make its Euro and Middle Eastern debut come next month. However, Moto wasn't clear about how much you'll have to shell out to grasp onto this Droid, or which specific countries it'll make the trip toward. Whatever it may be, let's hope it's already been fed that Ice Cream Sandwich we spotted a while back...

To call original DROID RAZR owners “frustrated” or “annoyed” over Motorola and Verizon’s decision to release a phone with double the battery life and at the same price only 2 months later called the RAZR MAXX would be a gigantic understatement. In fact, this is one of the bigger Android blunders and slaps to the face we have seen in a long, long time if not ever. No refunds were offered nor were there options for a trade-in to satisfy those early adopters that felt nothing but screwed by this move. Those words may sound harsh, but if you can’t tell, I’m actually holding back. RAZR owners should be furious at this.

A couple of new Android handsets from Motorola have appeared on the Chinese regulator TENAA's website, and Blog of Mobile has managed to uncover a number of specs for the devices. First up, the Motorola XT760 (pictured on the left) runs Android 2.3.5 atop a dual-core 1GHz processor, with a 960 x 540 TFT LCD display, and 8-megapixel rear camera. The images also show a front-facing webcam, but no details are offered on that. The XT760 is said to operate on standard WCDMA/GSM bands, meaning that while it could be seen outside of China, it's almost certainly headed to China Unicom.

Motorola DROID PRO update changelist now available

The other day we informed you that Motorola was seeking owners of the Motorola DROID PRO for a soak test. These volunteers are willing to load an unproven update on their phone to test how stable it is and to catch any major issues before the software is downloaded on everyone's phone. You're not allowed to talk about it while the soak test in in progress, so the only value it might have to you is that you get to use a new update before most of the world.

Verizon Wireless has begun distributing an update for the Motorola DROID X2 smartphone. The update fixes a handful of bugs in the device's software and patches a security hole. Unfortunately it does not update the DROID X2 to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and Motorola has not announced plans to do so in the future. Users should get a notification on their handsets when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.

Droid 2 Global update adds Google Security Patch, fixes minor issues

A new software update has been released for the Droid 2 Global, which fixes a few small issues with the handset, and also adds a Google Security Patch. Once updated, users should no longer have issues with the phone turning on by itself or with it reseting randomly during music playback. The 19.4MB download also reduces "out of memory" errors, improves access to Gmail while Mobile Hotspot is on, allows you to save camera settings even after shutting down, and finally lets you download and use the ringtones you've purchased. The over-the-air update should be available to Droid 2 Global owners "soon" and brings the software to version 4.5.62.

Verizon offering Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr, Samsung Stratosphere for free to loyal customers

As part of its customer loyalty program, Verizon Wireless is offering select 4G LTE smartphones for free — provided you sign up for a new contract. According to Droid Life, a recent email sent out to Verizon customers revealed a trio of devices as part of the program, including the Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr, and Samsung Stratosphere, all of which can be had for free if you renew your contract with Verizon for another two years. We've reached out to Verizon for some more details — including who actually qualifies for the deal — but have yet to hear back as of this writing.

Apple scores a victory over Motorola in German patent case

Apple on Monday won a ruling over Motorola Mobility in a German appeals court over a recent patent infringement suit, reports Bloomberg. The Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court ruled in Apple’s favor, stating that Motorola cannot further enforce its standard-essential patent injunction against the Cupertino-based company. The ruling allows Apple to continue to offer its products in its online store while it appeals a ruling that temporarily banned the company’s iPhone and iPad. “At the current state of the proceedings, it is to be assumed that Motorola Mobility would violate its duties under antitrust rules if it continues to ask Apple to stop the sales,” the court said in a statement.

Verizon rolls out bug fix update for original Motorola Droid X

Even though the original Motorola Droid X is nearly two years old, Verizon hasn't forgotten about the owners of this once-mighty smartphone. Verizon has begun rolling out a 15MB over-the-air software update — it's not an Ice Cream Sandwich update, but there are a lot of bug fixes for users who might find their phones to be a little flaky. Most noteworthy is the quashing of a bug that apparently powers your phone on without "user interaction" — an odd issue that appears to be a problem with more than one of Motorola's phones.
