When it rains, it pours, and the latest in the torrential downpour of Droid Bionic news comes straight from the FCC itself: we've got a manual. The user's guide starts by confirming the usual suspects: a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4G LTE, a 4.3" screen and a rear-facing camera capable of capturing 1080p video. A person who claims to be a Verizon employee has leaked a roadmap for the carrier. The information covers 9 devices from September to January and let's start with the smartphone on the tip of every Verizon customer's tongue-the Motorola DROID Bionic. Thanks to comments from Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha, we have been looking for a September launch of the much anticipated phone, and according to the roadmap it will be September 8th when the beast is let loose. On Motorola's MotoDev site is a chart listing specs of three of the manufacturer's smartphones. On the left is the recently launched Motorola DROID 3 while on the right is the just released Motorola PHOTON 4G. And in the middle is the handset that Big Red customers have been waiting to see since the CES in January, the Motorola DROID Bionic.
Forget that the model number listed for the handset is for the old model, that would appear to be a legitimate mistake. Between the quarterly earnings and the LightSquared agreement, it's been an roller coaster day for Sprint and high noon is still nigh. Adding to the craziness, the Motorola Photon 4G -- officially in stores on July 31st -- is now available for order on Sprint's online store. Early adopters from coast to coast can get their grubby hands on the device for $200, which will give you a 4.3-inch qHD display, 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 CPU, 1GB of RAM, Android 2.3 pre-installed, and 4G connectivity (among plenty of other goodies). 'Course, the Now Network's evident 4G switchover may dissuade a few of us from committing to WiMAX for a full two years, but we digress.

Motorola's latest high end Android handset is now available from Sprint's retail outlets. The Motorola PHOTON 4G, as we reported, could have been ordered a couple of days ago online, but for those who would rather head into a store to make the purchase in person, that option is now available to you. The PHOTON 4G is priced at $199.99 with a signed 2-year contract , $549.99 off contract, and is Motorola's first 4G enabled device for Sprint.

Motorola ATRIX 4G gets Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update

Motorola has pushed out Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) to the Motorola ATRIX 4G. The update adds a number of new enhancements unrelated to Gingerbread, including support for 1080p HD video playback, a re-designed home screen with white backgrounds for easier reading of text, an enhanced photo gallery, the ability to dismiss notifications one at a time, a faster Webtop browsing experience, enhancements to the dock icons and more. To update, make sure your ATRIX 4G is connected to a Wi-Fi network and then go to Settings > About Phone > System updates > Download. All AT&T Android Phones Released In 2011 Will Get Gingerbread

The HTC Status might be a sort-of-weird, kind-of-gimmicky (with its dedicated Facebook button and all) little piece of kit, but it’s got at least one thing going for it: it’s the only phone on AT&T running on the latest (phone-friendly) version of Android: v2.3, or “Gingerbread”. Not for long, though.
AT&T has just confirmed that all of the Android phones they released in 2011 will be getting the Gingerbread upgrade treatment.

A Sprint roadmap with date stamp from Friday is making the rounds, and it reveals quite a bit about the nation's third largest carrier handset release dates in the next month or two.
We have the Samsung Conquer 4G, which was supposed to appear by the end of July seemingly pushed for 8/21. This handset is supposed to take the place of the Sanyo Zio. This is a low-end Gingerbread handset with a 3.5" display, 1GHz chipset and 3MP camera on the back, which should be coming pretty cheap on contract.

Motorola gave Atrix 4G owners a treat at the end of the week by posting its Android 2.3 update. The update brings both the performance, polish, and interface updates of 2.3 itself as well as updates to Motorola's custom tweaks, including ones that haven't shown on other Motorola Android 2.3 revisions. Among the surprises is an upgrade to 1080p movie playback that helps it compete even with newer phones.
MotoBlur has been given both core and secondary updates. The UI layer now has an iPhone-style app dock, notifications can be cleared one at a time, and the app tray is now sortable. Media gets a lift through a gallery app that now aggregates more online and offline sources, and the music play...

We had our hands on a raw version of the Droid Bionic way back at CES, but two listings on Amazon for desktop and car docking stations, uncovered by Android Central forum posters, may give the clearest look at the phone so far. As you can see in the shot above of the desktop dock Motorola's slab appears to have a chrome ring running around the outside, while the dock itself has a 3.5mm audio out, HDMI output and USB ports.
