Christie Announces Solaria V.2.2 Software Upgrade
Like UnlikeFiled in: Christie
Christie announced today a new software upgrade that will be available soon to the Solaria series of digital projectors. The Solaria V.2.2 software is specifically designed to support high frame rate footage. The rates can be as high as 60 frames per second when the standard frame rate is generally only 24 FPS. The high frame rate allows for a smoother image quality and reduces motion blur on fast moving objects. Several big name movies are expected to be released soon using the HFR format, including The Hobbit, and the next 2 Avatar movies. “The transition to a higher frame rate standard is going to happen sooner rather than later, and Christie‘s Previsto HFR technology will protect exhibit...

Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasSonyAlpha NEX-7Alpha SLT-A65
Sony USA says it is too soon to know what effect the floods in Thailand will have on A65 and NEX-7 shipments. In response to reports from Japan that the launches will be delayed, a spokesman said: 'In Japan, a press announcement was made on October 20th regarding launch delays to the Japanese market. This does not apply to the US market, as the impact of the flood on US product shipping is still under investigation.' He also said that, as a: '"temporary emergency operation", Sony is planning to move production of Alpha / NEX to another factory facility in Thailand that was unaffected by the flood.' Nikon, meanwhile, has made no further comment, beyond confirming that its sole factory making ...

Sony Dual Screen Display Coming November 13th
Like UnlikeFiled in: Sony
One of the more talked about 3DTVs is the new Sony dual screen display. This 24 inch screen was specifically designed to work with their Playstation 3 game console. The main feature is the ability to display two full screen views simultaneously. This prevents the players from having to look at a small split screen, which typically hinders the player’s view. Today, Sony announced that the dual screen display will finally be released to the consumer market on November 13th and it will retail for just under $500. The display will come one pair of rechargeable 3D glasses, but any additional pairs will cost about $70 per pair. Other specifications include dual HDMI ports, LED edgelight technology...

OLED HDTVs Reduce in Price
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVs
The biggest problem with OLED HDTVs is that they rather expensive for their screen sizes. Fortunately though, that is starting to change. Today it was unveiled that the OLED screens available in the UK are not starting to plummet in price. The only two available models are the LG 15EL9500 and the Sony XEL-1. The 15EL9500 dropped 50% in price and features a 15 inch screen, WXGA (1366 x 768) resolution, and a 10000000:1 contrast ratio. The XEL-1 is an 11 inch screen and comes with a 1000000:1 contrast ratio and a native 960 x 540 resolution. The reduction in price is to help clear stock in order to make room for the upcoming OLED models that are expected to come next year.

From Steve Jobs Biography: Android Is A Stolen Product
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleGoogleAndroid
Walter Isaacson biography on Steve Jobs will go on sale from Monday, but Associated Press got a copy of it before us. They posted some excerpts from the book which says that Steve Jobs felt that Android is a stolen product and he is willing to wage a war on it.
“I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.”
“I don’t want your money. If you offer me $5 billion, I won’t want it. I’ve got plenty of money. I want you to stop using our ideas in Android, that’s all I want.”
Bunch of lawsuits are going on ...

Foxconn gets orders for the next Kindle Fire
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAmazonFoxconnKindle Fire
It's looking more and more like if it's good enough for Apple, it's good enough for Amazon. Not only has Amazon taken a note from Apple in building up content stores for music, video and books, but also in bringing those stores together in the ultimate content consumption device: a tablet. Granted, Amazon is using the hardware as a loss leader to sell content, whereas Apple uses the content to sell hardware, but the parallels are still there. Amazon also took a cue from Apple in making said tablet into a closed ecosystem (albeit build upon an open source project,) with content reviews and controls, in order to create a very specific experience for the user. Now, Amazon is going another step ...

Samsung shipped more smartphones than Apple in Q3
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
Samsung managed to ship over 20 million smartphones in Q3 2011, one report says, and this means it shipped more smartphones in that quarter than any other company, including Nokia and arch-nemesis Apple. The two latter manufacturers cranked out 16.8 million and 17.1 million smartphones last quarter, respectively.
Samsung has proven itself to be the leading Android phone vendor over the past year or so, releasing successful devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S II. Just yesterday it teamed up with Google to announce the new Galaxy Nexus, Google’s new flagship Android smartphone and the first handset to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Motorola and HTC both had their time in the spotli...

Motorola DROID BIONIC to get Ice Cream Sandwich update
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsMotorolaGoogleDROID BIONICAndroid 4.0
It is hard to believe that after all of those months that Verizon customers were eagerly waiting, the Motorola DROID BIONIC could be wiped out by the announcement of the upcoming Motorola DROID RAZR. Many owners of the DROID BIONIC feel slighted after Motorola showed off the extremely thin and sexy design of the DROID RAZR, not to mention the Super AMOLED display that does away with the often criticized pentile display found on the older of the two DROID models. And the Motorola DROID RAZR will be a little faster with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor under the hood.
Good news for Motrorola DROID BIONIC owners
Yesterday, we reported that the Motorola DROID RAZR would be receiving an update to the...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus goes on pre-order
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGalaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus has shown up on Amazon for pre-order. Unfortunately, there is still no exact release date given for the tab, and the pricing puts it in a weird range.
The rumor has been that the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus would be coming to the US, and not the Tab 7.7, and the Tab 7.0 Plus is certainly aiming for a more budget-conscious consumer. The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus has been listed on Amazon at $399 for the 16 GB model, and $499 for the 32 GB model. That's about where we would expect the prices to hit, especially given that Samsung is looking to turn a profit on this hardware, unlike Amazon with its $199 Kindle Fire, which will be a loss-leader to get people into Amazon's vario...

HTC Rezound leaks in a press photo with an HTC case
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCRezound
Even though we haven’t seen the official press photos for the upcoming HTC Rezound, a different type of press photo has leaked of the powerful Android handset that shows it off wearing an HTC branded case.
For the past couple of months we have come to know the device formerly known as the HTC Vigor quite well. We have seen it in unofficial photos, videos, renders and more. Although the smartphone is expected to be launched on November 10 on Verizon Wireless along with the Motorola DROID RAZR and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus it still hasn’t been officially introduced.
The HTC Rezound is going to be quite the beast of a smartphone. Although it will not have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when it...

Galaxy Nexus was not designed to avoid Apple patent suits, Samsung exec says

Speaking during the AsiaD conference in Hong Kong recently, Samsung’s head of global mobile product strategy Won-Pyo Hong denied reports that the Galaxy Nexus was designed to avoid lawsuits with Apple. “At the time this was not really an issue,” Hong said, speaking about the design process of the phone. “I don’t know where that rumor is from.” The gossip started with an early report from an industry insider who suggested Samsung delayed its planned launch in San Diego due to last minute tweaks that were required to avoid patent lawsuits. Then on Wednesday, Yonhap News Agency quoted Samsung’s mobile head Shin Jong-kyun on Wednesday as saying, “We will avoid everything we can and take patents ...
