Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsSamsungMicrosoftWindows Phone 7

As BGR reports, Microsoft has snagged Samsung's VP of of consumer and enterprise services, Gavin Kim, to lead the Windows Phone product team. In describing his new role, Kim tells BGR that he'll "be responsible to help set the future direction for the Windows Phone platform and to accelerate Microsoft's trajectory to win the hearts and minds of consumers, carriers, device manufacturers, developers and partners." Verizon's November Roadmap includes Galaxy Nexus, new Xoom tablets
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsSamsungMotorolaVerizon WirelessGALAXY NexusXOOM 2XOOM 2 Media Edition
It looks like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is going to hit shelves a lot sooner then we all thought. A leaked Verizon road map suggests a November 21 “web only” launch date for the next big Android handset. This news comes after reports first suggested a launch on the 10th then that date switched to a Nov. 17 launch. Rumor after rumor seems to come almost daily, as Verizon keeps pushing the actual release date all over the place.
Maybe this Nov. 21 date sticks, especially since it happens to be on the same week as Black Friday and the release of the Droid Razr according to the road map. It would be a smart move for America’s largest carrier to release one of the most anticipated phones of the ye...

Verizon Wireless offers double the data for 4G smartphone owners
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesVerizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless has announced a limited-time promotion that provides double the amount of data usage for the same price to new and existing 4G LTE smartphone owners. Starting tomorrow, 4G customers can opt for a 4GB data plan that costs the same $30 per month as the normal 2GB plan.
Verizon did not say when this promotion is scheduled to end, but new customers will get the bonus 2GB automatically, while existing customers have to change their plan to the new 4GB version in order to take advantage of it. Customers can do this by calling Verizon's customer care department or by logging in to their My Verizon accounts and making the switch themselves.

Nokia N9 for sale in the USA, will cost you $690
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIAN9
The Nokia N9, one of the most controversial devices to ever come out of Finland, is now available in the United States. You can order it for $690 from Expansys, an online retailer we thoroughly recommend for those of you who want to get your hands on the latest handsets coming out in Europe and Asia. Before you do however, realize that it’s going to be the one and only device to run MeeGo, it’s not going to get that much official support since it’s shipped in limited quantities, but on the bright side it supports both AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s 3G networks. Now while we didn’t review the N9, the folks at Engadget and The Verge did and both sites have absolutely fallen in love with it. Myriam Joir...

Many have wondered what HTC's plans are when it comes to upgrading its existing Android smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as the manufacturer has said that it was still evaluating the new operating system and how it fits with HTC's custom Sense interface that it likes to use. Now, those questions have found answers, as HTC has announced a list of eight smartphones that will get Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades in 2012.
The company says that in addition to the just-released HTC Vivid, which is apparently ready for Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL, HTC Sensation XE, HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, and HTC Amaze 4G are all planned to get...

Marvel Comics to offer digital releases alongside print editions
Like UnlikeMarvel is going for on-the-go smartphone users and tablet owners. Their plan to start offer digital releases alongside print editions. In other words, no longer will you have to wait for the release of a digital version of some comic – it will be published on the same day its less “paper counterpart” is out.
The plan is to digitalize the full line of comic books except select third-party licensed works such as Stephen King’s The Stand books and MAX imprint. Moreover, the comic book giant will also trial a novel program to include a special code with every physical copy of a comic that can be redeemed for its digital equivalent. The initiative will start with Avenging Spider-Man 1, and will m...

The New EVGA Dual GTX 560 Ti That Thinks It's A GTX 585
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsEVGAGeForce GTX 560 Ti 2Win
EVGA has just announced a new dual GPU card based on the GF114 GPU – check out the product launch page here and the product page here. If their performance graph on that launch page is accurate, then the card is around 30% faster than a GTX 580 when running the Unigene Heaven benchmark. The output panel contains three DVI connectors for NVIDIA 3D Surround, along with a mini HDMI port. The cooler has three fans, which should make for a well-cooled and reasonably quiet card. The marketing blurb says:

U.S. accuses China and Russia of cyber-espionage
Like UnlikeIn a display of unusual public candor, the Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive released a critical report (PDF link) labeling China as the "most active and persistent" country in the world when it comes to cyber-espionage. Russia made the list too, lumped in together with China as "the most aggressive collectors" of U.S. trade secrets, overall.
As of writing, China publicly denounced the accusation. Russian officials have not commented.
The primary purpose of the report is to outline the increasing importance cyber-espionage plays in undermining both private and government interests. Robert Bryant, the U.S. Counterintelligence Executive, claims cyber-espionage is a "national...

Complete Galaxy Nexus system dump makes Ice Cream Sandwich files available a bit early
Like UnlikeThe effort to put together pre-release ports of Ice Cream Sandwich just got a major boost today with a copy of the system, boot, and recovery images from a test Galaxy Nexus — courtesy of MoDaCo. It's a developer build, so it's likely to change before final release, but at least it should be fairly easy to whip up themes based on the ROM, because the apps and other files haven't been split apart by odexing. Google won't be releasing the source code for Android 4.0 until after the Galaxy Nexus launches, but for now, you can hit the source and download the entire file system.

Nook Color drops to $199.99, courtesy of Best Buy
Like UnlikeAs expected, Barnes & Noble's Android-based Nook Color has fallen $50 to $199.99 ahead of the presumed announcement of a successor next week. The news comes out of Best Buy this morning, which has just released a statement saying that the e-reader has "permanently" been reduced to $199.99 both online and in stores, though Barnes & Nobile itself is still showing a price of $249. In other words, if you're planning on picking one of these up today, Best Buy looks to be your best option for the moment.

HP gives webOS developers a chance to get a $150 TouchPad
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHPTouchPad
The future of webOS may still be up in the air, but it looks like HP is at least still making a small effort to woo developers and keep its current ones in the fold. It's now giving registered devs in the US, Canada and Europe a chance to get a 32GB HP TouchPad for the blowout price of $150 (or €150 in Europe), for a limited time and while supplies last. Unfortunately, it's not clear how many TouchPads will be available, but HP is allowing applicants to request up to two TouchPads each at the discounted price, so we'd assume it's more than just a handful. Those interested will have to file their request before November 18th, and if they're accepted they'll receive a coupon that must be redee...

Nikon factories to remain closed until 2012 due to Thailand floods
Like UnlikeFiled in: Nikon
Nikon has issued a third official note on the damage to its facilities from the ongoing flooding in Thailand, and it looks like it will be closed into next year. The company's Ayutthaya plant will begin production again in January and get fully back up to speed by March, but with its doors shuttered since October 6th, the damage has already been substantial. This factory is used for both Nikon DLSRs and its new interchangeable lens V1 and J1 cameras —and three to six months of limited production will make Nikon's newest gear very difficult to get hold of for the immediate future. The flood waters have receded from their 2-yard deep peak by about 15 inches, but that's still far too deep to be...

Firefox 8 available for FTP download, official November 8th
Like UnlikeThe latest version of Firefox, version 8, is slated to be officially released on November 8th. However, it's actually available now via Mozilla's FTP servers. The biggest change is that Firefox is a little more careful with add-ons, setting them to disabled by default and presenting upgraders a one-time dialog box to manage previously installed add-ons. There's also support for Twitter in the search bar, a preference to load tabs on-demand after a relaunch, and the standard performance and stability fixes.
You can find the download link at Mozilla's FTP site, but a full release (including mirrors for faster downloading) should be arriving on Tuesday — so if you're not in a hurry you can just...
