Insync cloud storage undercuts Dropbox
Like UnlikeSoftware developer Insync is offering a free front-end to Google's cloud-based storage service. The company claims that its app in conjunction with Google storage provides enhanced sharing capabilities at a lower cost than rival Dropbox. Insync hopes to derive its revenues through offering value-added services such as secure remote wiping of local Google Docs at a premium.
Dropbox offers free 2GB of storage, but pricing quickly jumps from there. 50GB is $120 annually and then increments to $240 for 100GB annually. Google starts at $5 annually for 20GB and then steps up to $20 for 80GB and $50 for 200GB.

Pico projectors are all the rage, but if you need some premium functionality in a package that’s more luggabble than pocketable, Panasonic’s got your back with a trio of new models. The PT-LW25HU, PT-LX30HU and PT-LX26HU projectors (catchy!) weigh in at a scant 6.6 pounds each, with dimensions that are just barely bigger than a college textbook at 13.7 by 4.1 by 9.7 inches. Ranging in price from $849 to $1,099, the projectors slide into the middle range of Panasonic’s line.

This CES, they are coming out with two new products, the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 and a novel mouse design in the Logitech Cube. We will write about our impressions of the Logitech Cube after using it first-hand at CES next week. The webcam announcement, however, is interesting for a number of reasons.

Verizon's record iPhone sales in Q4 have lowered its profit margins, Apple might have moved 35 million in total
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesiPhone 4 Verizon
Analysts believed that Verizon's mentioned record 4.2 million iPhones sold yesterday, will be affecting its profit margins for the last quarter in a negative way, and the carrier confirmed that suspicion.
We know that the iPhone is the most heavily susidized phone by carriers, to the tune of $400+ per unit, which brings in Apple's fat profit margins. Therefore it isn't rocket science to conclude that the more iPhones sold for the sake of Androids and others, where Verizon subsidizes less, the bigger the carrier's total expenses, hence smaller profits.

Google Nexus tablet rumors begin; 7-inch slate priced at $199?
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsGoogle
Just a couple of weeks ago, Eric Schmidt hinted that a Google tablet, presumably one bearing the Nexus brand, is already in the works. Additionally, he clarified that the device could debut in no more than six months' time, which points at a possible announcement at the upcoming Google I/O conference.
Unfortunately, no further details about the tablet were revealed, which is why the rumor mill is already working at full speed. A recent report from DigiTimes suggests that the Google Nexus tablet will be a 7-inch device priced at about $199, thus becoming a competitor to the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Apple settles a patent lawsuit with Taiwanese touchscreen maker Elan
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Taiwanese touch design firm Elan Electronics said that Apple will pay it $5 million to settle a patent infringement case. The two companies have also reached a deal to exchange authorizations to use each other’s patents.
After the launch of the iPhone in 2007 numerous companies have sued Cupertino for infringing on its patents. Elan was one of them when in 2009 the Taiwanese sued Apple over two patents in the States, and Apple replied with a counter-suit swiftly after. In the States, last year the International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled that there was no law violation.

Motorola's failed bootloader promise pushes users to the edge
Like UnlikeFiled in: Motorola
Throughout the years, numerous companies have made the decision to lock the bootloader on a smartphone or tablet, making it impossible for savvy users to run custom kernels and have complete control of the device. The Android community is perhaps one of the most vocal user bases in the world when it comes to the practice of locking bootloaders. When HTC and ASUS began to lock their bootloaders, thousands of users took to social networks and had the decisions overturned. Motorola began locking the bootloader with the company’s DROID X and DROID 2 smartphones in the Spring of 2010. Since then, users have bombarded the company with petitions, emails, posts and comments in an attempt to overturn...

RIM now working on only one BlackBerry 10 smartphone; Colt, Milan cancelled
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesRIM BlackBerryMilan
We already reported that the BlackBerry Colt — the handset that was originally intended to be the Research In Motion’s first BlackBerry 10 smartphone — has been cancelled. In addition, we have heard from multiple sources that the BlackBerry Milan that leaked last month was in fact was never a QNX smartphone, but a BlackBerry 7 device with a slightly different design identity. Regardless, the Milan has been cancelled as well. We’re told carriers balked at the idea of carrying a BlackBerry 7 phone so similar to the BlackBerry Torch at this point in time.
