The new televisions will be showcased at CES 2012 next week, complete with the Marvell Armada 1500 HD Media System-on-a-chip which should mean lower prices and better power efficiency than the Intel-made predecessors.

AT&T LTE Hits NYC (And Yes, It's Fast)
Like UnlikeFiled in: AT&T
AT&T's LTE glow has spread to 11 new locales, including NYC, SF, and LA. From where I'm sitting in frigid Brooklyn, Big Blue is delivering some serious mobile bandwidth.
After running nine tests on the HTC Vivid via Speedtest.net, my average downstream speed was 3 megabytes per second. That's faster than my home cable connection. The average upload speed was 1.5 megabytes per second, which is also pretty stellar. Latency averaged out with a ping of 50, which is more than decent. Overall very fast, and beating out my experience in DC last November.

Another leak from Wells Fargo Advisors has revealed a whole host of point-and-shoot cameras due to be announced at CES next week, most notably a new flagship G-series PowerShot model from Canon. It'll shoot RAW and 1080p video, and will feature what sounds like the same DIGIC 5 image processor as the S100, enabling multi-area white balance and advanced noise reduction. There aren't any details on what the camera actually looks like or what sort of interface it'll use, but we can't wait to see it fully unveiled.

Apple patents suggest Thunderbolt coming to iOS devices
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
The United States Patent and Trademark Office recently published three Thunderbolt related patents that suggest Apple may have plans to build Intel’s Thunderbolt connections into its iOS devices. As Patently Apple points out, Apple may build its own cabling technology that gives it exclusive rights to how Thunderbolt technology might be built into portable devices. Thunderbolt ports would allow for faster data transfers on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, as well as shorter charging times. One of Apple’s more revealing patents describes stronger Thunderbolt cables that could handle greater amounts of data more efficiently and without overheating. Apple says in its patent that the Thunderbolt...

Toshiba readying the world’s thinnest 10.1-inch tablet for CES
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsToshiba
Toshiba is taking a bit of a risk here with the bold statement that they are getting ready to unveil the thinnest and the lightest 10.1-inch tablet at CES next week especially since their latest effort, the Android-powered Thrive wasn’t exactly on the thin or light side.
As far as specs go there isn’t anything to go along with this statement. Just the other day a benchmark showed a quad-core Toshiba tablet which could very well be the one that they are touting as the thinnest and lightest. The benchmark results were similar to what has been seen with the Asus Transformer Prime, which is the first quad-core tablet to hit the market.

Deloitte found that 19% of those aged 23-28 are thinking about canceling cable while 13% of Generation Xers and 7% of baby boomers said they are considering doing the same. “For the first time, less than half of all viewers say they have viewed their favorite shows live on their home TV,” Phil Asmundson, Deloitte’s U.S. Media & Telecommunications Sector Leader said. “In 2...

MetroPCS on Thursday announced its fourth quarter 2011 subscriber results. The carrier added 197,000 net subscribers, which missed analyst expectations that the carrier would add between 214,000 and 250,000 net customer additions, Reuters said. The company stated that it ended the year with more than 9.3 million total subscribers and said it added about 1.2 million subscribers during the 2011 calendar year. Churn took a turn for the worse since the fourth quarter of 2010, however; the company reported 3.7% churn in the fourth quarter, up from 3.5% during the same period in 2010. That figure is an improvement over the 4.5% churn the carrier reported during the third quarter of 2011, however. ...

According to a study done by a company known as Arieso, users of the Apple iPhone 4S consume twice as much data as the Apple iPhone 4 which is more than likely the case thanks to the data hog known as Siri.
In addition to doubling up the data usage by the iPhone 4, the iPhone 4S is also surpassing data used by the Apple iPad. Arieso says that the spike in data usage is due to the increasing use of online based services such as the previously mentioned Siri. For the sake of comparison iPhone 4 users consumed 1.6x the amount of data as the iPhone 3G.
