Like UnlikeFiled in: Digital Media PlayersTivoSeries4 PremiereSeries4 Premiere XLPremiere Elite
It's too early to know if this is the big TiVo update fans have been waiting for since the release of the Premiere, but there's no doubt it's a significant one. For starters, the guide has finally gotten the upgraded HD treatment -- no word if it is the only remaining old screen to get refreshed. Next up is official Premiere-to-Premiere streaming, which frees your recorded TV to be watched in any room of the house, even if the content is marked Copy Once. Other notable improvements include the integration of Hulu Plus content in TiVo search results, a revamped discover bar that actually discloses why the content is featured -- we assume this will make it more useful -- and hitting select whi...

Sony PS4 and Xbox 720 to star in shock E3 2012 unveiling?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesSonyMicrosoft
E3 2012 is shaping up to be a show to remember, as a new source claims that both both the Xbox 720 and Sony PS4 are due to be unveiled.
The show, which will take place in June, is expected to mark the full launch of the Wii U following its first airing at last year’s show. As such, the pressure is on Microsoft and Sony to provide something in the way of competition other than peddling their now ageing wares.
“You have my personal word on this – the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level,” says MCV Editor Ben Parfitt when explaining that both Sony and Microsoft will definitely be bringing new hardware to the table.

Siri Doubles The Data Use of iPhone Owners
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Maybe you love Siri. Maybe you don't. Either way, you probably want to know that, if you rock an iPhone 4S, you're probably using twice the data of someone with a humble iPhone 4.
Bloomberg reports that the voice recognition software prompts users of the newer phone to use double the data of those stuck with its predecessor.
Admittedly, Siri hasn't been around all that long, so this could be a result of the software's novelty factor. Asking it if it's pro-life, using it to find hookers. You know, the usual. Or, it could be nothing to do with Siri — but there's little else to separate the two phones, so let's roll with the theory.

HTC's growth streak is over: quarterly revenue down 2.5 per cent, profits even worse
Like UnlikeFiled in: HTC
Difficult times for a company that had grown used to a gleaming record of growth. As predicted after that serious stutter in November sales, HTC's unaudited revenue for Q4 2011 shows a 2.49 percent fall on the same quarter in 2010. Unaudited operating income was just shy of 13 billion Taiwanese dollars (about $430 million), which represents a 22 percent decline on the year before. Prior to this, the company had seen nothing but upward movement after springing out of nowhere a few years ago and delivering us some rather nice handsets, but it looks like competition in the Android sphere is starting to make life harder for the Taiwanese manufacturer -- although none of its recent statements bet...

While Kobo hasn't released sales numbers, it says that it has had "hundreds of thousands" of new device activations each day since Christmas Eve, while rival Amazon is claiming over four million Kindles sold through December. Not to be left out, Barnes & Noble says that Nook unit sales (i.e., devices, not e-books) were 70 percent higher than last holiday season — culminating in the company selling "virtually its entire inventory of NookColor and E Ink devices" during the holidays.

File sharing recognized as an official religion in Sweden
Like UnlikeFile sharing has officially been recognized as a religion by the Swedish government agency Kammarkollegiet. The Church of Kopimism reportedly applied for religious status three times over the course of more than a year before finally succeeding just before Christmas, the group said in a recent statement.
The church, which holds CTRL+C and CTRL+V (keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste) as sacred symbols, was denied religious status twice before when authorities requested they formalize the way they pray or meditate. Followers of the church, known as Kopimists, now organize religious file-sharing ceremonies called “kopyactings” where members share information with each other.
