Nokia: charging cellphones using a solar panel is possible but challenging

The results are in from Nokia's solar charging experiment, and it doesn't look good for those hoping to charge up their cellphones from sun rays in future. The Finnish handset maker has been using prototype solar panels for the past six months, across a variety of countries, to test the viability of sun driven cellphone charging. Nokia's tests involved a customized C1-02 device (dumbphone), and five participants with different lifestyles and local weather conditions.

Samsung Is to Unveil Three Next Generation Premium Monitors at CES 2012

Samsung Electronics is set to unveil next-generation new concept monitors at CES 2012 in Las Vagas: Next-generation Premium Monitor Series 9 (S27B870), Series 7 Smart Station (CB750), Series 7 HDTV Monitor (TB750). The three models all received Innovation Award at CES 2012 for their innovative features and designs. Kim Jeong Hwan, Managing Director of Display Sales and Marketing team at Samsung said “These three monitors all reflect up-to-date trends like widespread use of mobile devices and SNS.”, also adding “Samsung will strive to continue to lead the global monitor market by developing innovative products like these.”

Intel Atom D2550, N2650, N2850 on the Horizon

Last week, Intel launched its third-generation Atom processor platform for netbooks and low-power PCs, codenamed "Cedar Trail", with mobile variants including the 1.60 GHz N2600 and 1.83 GHz N2800. Earlier, it launched its low-power PC variants, the 1.86 GHz D2500 and 2.13 GHz D2700. As a result of a slip-up, Intel disclosed a three new models in the datasheet (PDF) document of the new Atom series. These include the new 1.70 GHz N2650, 2.00 GHz N2850, which will likely replace the N2600 and N2800 in the future; and the D2550. Samsung 27-inch 9 Series monitor unveiled

Samsung has officially unveiled a second-generation 27-inch Series 9 monitor, with the S27A970 to be shown off at CES 2012 next week.
The stylish monitor is a flagship offering from Samsung taking on the mantle from the Samsung T27A950, and includes the company's proprietary Natural Colour Expert tech and boasts a resolution of 2560x1440.

The rumors of next gen Xbox consoles from Microsoft are floating around all over the place over the last few months. Back in November, we heard that there would be two new Xbox consoles launch with one aimed at the gamer and the other packing in some set-top box tech for the gamer that wants to watch TV too. Barnes & Noble considers selling Nook business

Barnes & Noble conducted an unusual strategy Thursday that amounted to an attempt to sell its Nook e-reader business. Although its Nook sales spiked 70 percent over what they were last year, the company was considering both breaking out the Nook group both for separate reporting as well as a selloff. The company wanted to "unlock that value" in its digital business, it said, and was planning a review that by the end of the year would make a decision on the business.

HTC is looking to reinvigorate its smartphone line-up with not one but two quad-core smartphones, which it will show off at this year's Mobile World Congress.
This is according to Digitimes, which is reporting that there will not just be the HTC Edge on display – a phone that's said to have Nvidia's Tegra 3 processer inside – but a number of new smartphones packing some quad love.

After teasing its CES HDTV lineup a few days ago Westinghouse has revealed the full line of TVs it will be showing off. As promised, it's packing a few LED lit models including the 70-inch UW70 and 55-inch EW55 models, packing standard 1080p, 120Hz refresh rate spec sheets. Also new for the show is its first slim-bezel HDTV model, the 46-inch UW46 series seen above that makes sure there's very little frame around your picture. Google has released an update for its Translate app for the iOS platform that brings support for the larger display of the Apple iPad. All of the features that users have come to enjoy on the iPhone and iPod touch can now be had on the iPad, including text translation between 63 languages, voice-to-text translation in 17 languages, and text-to-voice translation in 24 languages. The updated Google Translate app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store now.

Sprint today announced the Samsung M370, an entry-level flip phone. The M370 features 3G data, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, GPS, a 3.5mm headset jack, speakerphone, and other tools. It has two displays, and the main display measures 2.4 inches with 240 x 320 pixels. It will be available Sunday, January 8 for $19.99 with a new contract.
