Pantech next to sign Android patent deal with Microsoft

Microsoft may have already signed patent licensing agreements with 70 percent of the US Android manufacturers, including some of the biggest names in the market, but that doesn't mean Redmond's about ready to hit the brakes anytime soon. Next up on the block is Pantech, according to a company spokesperson talking with Yonhap News. No specific details have been decided yet, so we'll have to wait for the official word and see what happens.

AT&T announces Pantech Burst and Samsung Exhilarate LTE phones, both cost less than $50

AT&T just announced at its Developer Summit two LTE phones that will cost less than $50 on contract. First up is the Pantech Burst, which will have a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, and comes in either black or red. There's also the Samsung Exhilarate, which is being described as the first "sustainable" LTE device. AT&T says the phone is constructed from 80 percent recycled post-consumer materials, and it has an Eco calendar and calculator to help you figure out how green (or not) you are.

Pantech Element poster spied at AT&T store, launch coming next week for $300?

We've had a pretty good inkling that the Pantech Element LTE tablet would make an appearance at CES in the coming days, and our confidence level just rose another notch. It appears that one corporate-owned AT&T store got the official marketing material for the new tablet a few days prior to the device's launch and was a little too eager to put it on display ahead of time. The tipster also spilled the beans on a few specs, lending credence to earlier rumors: it's a waterproof 8-inch tablet with a 1.5GHz CPU, 16GB of internal storage and LTE, and will go for $300 on a two-year commitment ($450 without).

AT&T's Pantech Element is splash resistant, 8-inch LTE Android tablet

Another AT&T device has been leaked before its official announcement at the CES. It’s the splash resistant Pantech Element, an 8-inch Android Honeycomb tablet that also comes with a 1.5-GHz dual-core processor, LTE connectivity, 16GB of built-in storage, 5-megapixel camera on the back, 2-megapixel front-facing camera (for 720p video calls), and advanced “Piezo Motor” haptic feedback. It will sell for $299.99 with a two-year customer agreement or for $449.99 sans any contracts signed.

At CTIA last March, AT&T stole the show by announcing its intent to purchase T-Mobile US. This time around the news is a bit more modest, but the company is still hoping to give us a bit of a shock by introducing a litany of new handsets right on time for the holiday season. The carrier promised the release of 12 Android devices throughout the course of the year, and this week's announcement pushes the 2011 running count to 19. Not too shabby. Here in the US, we haven’t been captivated tremendously by any of Pantech’s devices, especially when they’re mostly basic to mid-range offerings. Pantech Breakout is the latest 4G LTE smartphone for Verizon

Pantech and Verizon Wireless have announced the manufacturer's first 4G LTE smartphone, the Breakout. The Breakout is also the first LTE smartphone to be available for under $100 at launch.
Featuring a 4-inch, WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) display, the Breakout is powered by a single-core, 1GHz processor. It has a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and 720p (1280 x 720 pixel) video capture, along with a VGA front-facing camera for video calling. Pantech and Verizon are including an 8GB microSD card with the Breakout as well.

Thanks to the savvy ninjas at PocketNow, we have the first real images of two upcoming Verizon smartphones – Pantech Breakout and Samsung Illusion. The first of the two has already been leaked before – it comes with LTE support, 4-inch WVGA display, 1GHz single-core processor, 5-megapixel camera on the back, front-facing camera (for video calls), 512MB of RAM, memory card slot and the ability to create a mobile hotspot for up to 10 devices. Pantech is surely revving things up with their handset offerings, especially now that they’re in the business of producing Android smartphones, but we’re getting our first look at what appears to be their upcoming LTE enabled device.
Looking at the leaked screenshot showing the Pantech Breakout for Verizon below, we’re given a small peek at the design of the handset, but more importantly, it’s showing support for 4G LTE connection. However, it’s unclear at this point if it’s the same device as the Pantech Apache, which was seen over at the FCC of late.

All AT&T Android Phones Released In 2011 Will Get Gingerbread

The HTC Status might be a sort-of-weird, kind-of-gimmicky (with its dedicated Facebook button and all) little piece of kit, but it’s got at least one thing going for it: it’s the only phone on AT&T running on the latest (phone-friendly) version of Android: v2.3, or “Gingerbread”. Not for long, though.
AT&T has just confirmed that all of the Android phones they released in 2011 will be getting the Gingerbread upgrade treatment.
