ASUS Transformer Prime TF700 isn't shipping until the summer

Late last year ASUS announced the Transformer Prime, the first Android tablet to use NVIDIA’s new quad core Tegra 3 chip. They said it would ship before Christmas, and it did … but in numbers so small that you can’t really say that it sold in any significant volume. What’s holding things up? Some folks are blaming NVIDIA, but we honestly think that ASUS just wants to wait until they can ship their customers the Transformer Prime with Android Ice Cream Sandwich onboard instead of Honeycomb. The few people who were lucky enough to get the Prime before everyone else soon discovered that their WiFi performance was flaky and that they couldn’t get a GPS signal no matter how hard they tried. Woz disses iPhone limitations, wishes it was like Android

You’ll often hear from people that the iPhone is just better than Android because it’s more polished, beautiful and the app environment is better but the counter to that is that Android gives you more flexibility and power. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak still considers the iPhone the best but even he’ll admit that Google and its partners have surpassed Apple in many aspects.

The next time you're out battling the crowd at Wally World stocking up on toilet paper, cereal, and fish bait (hopefully for different purposes and not because of some weird fetish), you may decide to add a Windows Phone 7.5 device to your shopping cart. It's not exactly a tough sell when the mega retailer decides to give one away for free, like it's doing with Nokia's Lumia 710 smartphone.

AMD Aims to Undercut Intel with Ultrabook Alternative

AMD Aims to Undercut Intel with Ultrabook Alternative

Filed in: CPUIntelAMD

The message at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year was loud and clear: Ultrabooks are here to stay. Intel finds itself in similar territory after spearheading the once hugely popular netbook market, and so does AMD, which has a chance to take a mulligan and do things differently this time. AMD waited too long to get into netbook alternatives, and this time around, the Sunnyvale chip maker doesn't want history to repeat itself.

Sony Still Plans to Develop OLED HDTVs

Sony Still Plans to Develop OLED HDTVs

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: TVsSony

It was announced last week that Sony would be discontinuing development of OLED HDTVs and monitors. Apparently those statements are false as Sony announced that they are still working on OLED-TVs alongside of their new Crystal LED TV that was also announced at CES. The Crystal LED technology uses thousands of tiny LED lights to replace pixels from an LCD screen. By controlling the LED lights, the TV is able to give a better color quality and impressive black levels. The OLED TVs have indeed been discontinued, but it was announced that Sony plans to continue research, development, and produce OLED TV panels. Hopefully Sony will see how the market behaves with the many other companies that are...

Microsoft Reveals Next Generation File System in Windows 8 (for Servers)

Microsoft Reveals Next Generation File System in Windows 8 (for Servers)

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

Much of the focus on Windows 8 has been centered on the Metro UI and whether or not it will translate well to non-touch devices, like your typical desktop PC or notebook computer. Dig a little underneath the hood, however, and you'll find a nifty nugget in the form of a next generation file system. It's called ReFS (Resilient File System), a newly engineered file system built on the foundations of NTFS.
It's going to be introduced only as part of Windows Server 8, which is a bit of a bummer for home users, but it's also the same approach Microsoft has taken each time it's introduced a new file system, the company said in a blog post.

Hacker Group Backs Down from Releasing Symantec Source Code...For Now

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

An Indian hacking group known as "The Lords of Dharmaraja" celebrated swiping the Norton antivirus source code from Symantec earlier this month and promptly began releasing fragments to the public before promising to upload the full Monty on January 17, 2012. HTC Starts Scrubbing Carrier IQ From Sprint Phones

Long before legislation was dominating the headlines, the Carrier IQ controversy raised the hackles of tech geeks and privacy advocates around the world. Even though the software didn’t turn out to be quite as nefarious as was originally reported, carriers and manufacturers still started distancing themselves from the tracking and diagnostic software. Along those lines, HTC is starting to roll out updates designed to scrub Carrier IQ off of its Sprint phones, starting with the HTC EVO 3D.

Polaroid Announces Android-Powered SC1630 Digital Camera

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

Cameras are built into virtually every smartphone and tablet sold today, but even the best are a bit lacking in image quality. In order to keep things small, the cameras used fixed focal length lenses an very small image sensors, which has left them lagging behind when compared to dedicated digital cameras.
Polaroid's SC1630 digital camera aims to change that. The 16-megapixel shooter features a 3x (36-108mm f/3.1-5.6 equivalent) optical zoom lens, a feature that sets it apart from other Android devices.
