Months after Gingerbread's arrival, HTC Sense remains fussy, users can't get no satisfaction
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTC
Many HTC Sense users have experienced less than ideal conditions ever since their upgrade to Gingerbread. In an issue that's likely tied to the operating system's new memory management techniques, we've seen the launcher sporadically restart upon return to the home screen, and in rarer cases, cause Sense to revert entirely to its factory settings. While the glitch is hardly new, it's rather well documented and the longstanding nature demands a proper (and expedient) update from HTC. Until that moment comes, we've included a few tips to help affected users get through the day.

Alienware X51: Compact PC for gaming glory
Like UnlikeFiled in: Desktop ComputersAlienwareX51
Alienware has entered the compact desktop market with the Alienware X51. Just a fraction bigger than an Xbox 360, the new hardware packs a top end Nvidia graphics card and more than enough processor grunt to run the latest games.
Conventional small desktop units, usually designed for the living room or as a cheap family PC, usually use laptop components or lack any gaming capabilities. Alienware has used its gaming expertise to fit an easily upgradeable hardware setup into an extremely small box.

Samsung: 'we are not interested in buying RIM'
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungRIM BlackBerry
Rumor spread like wildfire today that the beleaguered RIM is looking for a buyer, and that Samsung was chief among the possible suitors. Samsung responded quickly and definitively, telling Reuters that "we haven't considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM)." BGR originally reported this morning that in addition to discussing licensing its software, RIM is in favor of selling parts or all of the company, and that Samsung was its buyer of choice. Whether that's true or not we don't yet know, but what's now loud and clear is that Samsung isn't interested in what's coming out of Waterloo. Samsung spokesman James Chung also said that the company hadn't even been approach...

Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsFujitsuSTYLISTIC M532
Fujitsu hasn't been a major player in the mobile race on this side of the pond, but it looks like the company's working to change that -- better late than never, right? Last week we spent some time with its "world's thinnest smartphone," the F-07D, and now TechFokus claims to have gotten its hands on a Tegra 3-packing tablet from the Japanese manufacturer that's supposedly set to launch in May.

RIM looking to sell to Samsung?
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungRIM BlackBerry
Research in Motion is actively seeking an outright sale of one or more of its divisions to rival manufacturer Samsung, according to reports on Tuesday.
The crisis-hit Canadian smartphone manufacturer is seeking a $12 to $15 billion offer to sell its BlackBerry brand, according to BGR sources, with senior figures looking to entice Samsung into a bid.
The Korean giant, which enjoyed a massively profitable 2011, aided by the sale of Android phones like the Galaxy S2, is said to believe that RIM's current asking price is too high.
However, the BGR report adds that RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie is "going hard after Samsung" in order to facilitate a sale.

World IPv6 launch day set for June 6th, 2012; Google, Facebook, and AT&T among supporters
Like UnlikeIn case you weren't aware, the internet is quickly running out of IP addresses — the last addresses in Internet Protocol version 4 were officially distributed early in 2011. To keep up with the internet's explosive growth, the Internet Society announced that the switch will be flipped on IPv6 on June 6th, 2012. This comes about one year after a 24-hour IPv6 test, but this time it's staying on permanently. To go along with this announcement, a number of major ISPs, networking hardware manufacturers, and web companies pledged support from day one. For starters, four of the biggest web properties will all enable IPv6 permanantly: Google, Facebook, Microsoft Bing, and Yahoo. From a hardware pers...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaDROID RAZR MAXX
Motorola's own website has pointed to a January 26th launch for the long-awaited Droid RAZR Maxx, but it looks like February 6th is the date to really pay attention to. With battery life becoming an even more serious concern due to the proliferation of life-sucking 4G networks, it's become obvious that companies are finally placing those longevity statistics atop their priority list.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftWindows 8
If you're wondering when the next version of Windows will be available, start counting down.
Pocket-lint.com quoted a Microsoft spokesperson during CES when asked about the potential Windows 8 launch window.
"Windows releases come round about every three years and this year will be three years in October since we launched Windows 7. So I think that's a good guideline to consider," the company rep reportedly said.

Samsung has 'not made a firm decision' to merge Bada OS into Tizen
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
Bada and Tizen are two mobile platforms that haven't had much impact in the market — to be fair, Tizen hasn't yet had the chance to make its mark, but its predecessors (Moblin and MeeGo) certainly did. Bada, meanwhile, soldiers on only because its behemoth benefactor, Samsung, has continued to support it and offer a number of models — mainly in Europe and Asia — that slot in beneath its Android line.

Google demos QR code Gmail access, claims something better in store
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
What's the big G up to here, then? It seems the Gmail team has been tinkering with a new secure method of accessing your precious email. Type your credentials into your phone, then scan a QR code in the browser to log in. It's ideal for public machines where typing your password might gift your credentials to any key-logging software. Sadly though, it seems the venture was just an experiment, with Google employee Dirk Balfanz confirming so on his Plus account. So, we might not be accessing our Gmail sans keyboard anytime soon, but with said staffer also teasing that his team are working on something "even better" who knows how we'll be logging on in the near future -- let's just hope it's no...

Adobe updates Flash and Air for Android, fixes 'green screen' video issues
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
Even though Adobe is killing Flash for Android, the company promised to keep offering support and updates to its users. To that end, Adobe is rolling out updates for Flash 11 and Air for Android, as well as an update to the Air SDK. The biggest change would have to be the squashing of a bug that caused serious issues with Flash video playback — previously, users would often experience a completely green screen when trying to play video on sites like YouTube, pretty much defeating the value of having Flash installed in the first place. There's still a number of known issues unresolved, including frames not updating when seeking through a paused video and incoming call audio not being prioriti...
