Reports are coming in that Motorola's XOOM Android tablets are starting to receive Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update. According to Android Central, an email has been sent out to select XOOM users stating, "Thanks for your patience as we've waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have. However, I'm happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Motorola website points to January 26th launch for Droid RAZR Maxx

Motorola didn't provide a launch date for the Droid RAZR Maxx when it officially announced the consonant-heavy phone at CES earlier this week, but it's now filled in that little detail on its website. Assuming it's not a mistake of some sort, you can look for the latest addition to the RAZR family to be available on January 26th from both Verizon and Motorola itself. If you missed the announcement, the Maxx is mostly identical to the existing Droid RAZR, with the notable exception of a longer-lasting battery that promises 21 hours of use on a charge, and 32GB of storage instead of the standard 16GB. It'll also set you back $100 more than the standard RAZR.

Motorola working on next-generation Webtop with Chrome support

In our roundtable discussion with Sanjay Jha today, Motorola's CEO slipped a couple revelations around its Webtop initiative — the laptop-alternative OS tucked away on many of the company's newer Android phones. As it exists today, the system has been widely panned for its limited capabilities — it's basically desktop Firefox with access to your Android applications — but Jha says that work on the next iteration of Webtop is underway. "Financial, in terms of our take-up rate, it's somewhere in the nine percent range," Jha said, suggesting that less than a tenth of buyers of Webtop-capable Moto devices are actually using it. Motorola wants to release fewer smartphones in the future

Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha revealed to reporters at CES 2012 today that the company wants to make fewer smartphones in the future so that it can better focus its marketing dollars. Jha also provided reasoning behind why Motorola (and presumably other manufacturers) insist on skinning their Android devices. Motorola's intention to release fewer devices in the future is almost laughable at first take, as this is the company that released the DROID BIONIC and DROID RAZR nearly on top of each other, and then just announced the new DROID RAZR MAXX this week. Well, look who just showed up at Intel's CES 2012 keynote? Motorola Mobility's own Sanjay Jha just grabbed a bit of the limelight -- long enough to announce a multi-year, multi-device agreement that should see Intel's Medfield chips powering Moto's hardware (the second announced behind Lenovo) in the not-too-distant future. Naturally, we're guessing Android will be the OS of choice here, but we can only guess what Motorola's going to do when all of its other chip partners come knocking with new questions.

Droid Razr family gets a new addition -- his name is Maxx

We've seen it teased, prodded and leaked, but now it's officially official. Motorola's taking the Droid Razr family to the limit one more time with the Maxx. According to the company, the model retains that "impossibly thin" shape we've all come to know and love at 8.99mm, but manages to squeeze in extended battery life, giving you 21 hours on a charge. The Maxx packs 32GB of storage and will run you a cool $300 plus the requisite two-year contract.

Verizon announces Motorola Droid 4

No surprises here, but Motorola and Verizon have just announced the 0.5-inches thick LTE Droid 4. The Droid 4 has a 4-inch, qHD display with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of onboard memory. Additionally, the 8 megapixel camera can shoot 1080p, HD video. There is no specific availability but it should be making its way to Verizon in the coming weeks.

It has been just 5 months since the launch of the Motorola Droid 3, and today at day 0 on CES, Motorola has announced its 4G LTE-enabled replacement, the Motorola Droid 4. The Motorola Droid 4 appears to marry the industrial design and profile of the Motorola Droid RAZR to a five-row QWERTY keyboard and likewise includes the same 1.2 GHz OMAP4430 SoC.

It should come as no surprise that Motorola's upcoming Droid 4 smartphone would carry a DLNA certification -- just like its predecessor, the Droid 3 -- but if there were ever any doubt in your mind, then wonder no more. This handsome slider destined for Verizon Wireless has just earned its media chops from the Digital Living Network Alliance, which further solidifies indications of its near-term arrival. Motorola sold 5 million smartphones in Q4, misses estimates

Motorola Mobility just released revised guidance for the last quarter, which they will be report in full on January 26th. They estimated sales of $3.4 billion, including 5.3 million smartphones. Motorola sold 10.5 million mobile phones combined, so it appears that Motorola’s Android phones now account for just over half of all phones they sell.

Motorola has unveiled a pair of new Android smartphones, the Motorola MOTOLUXE and Motorola DEFY MINI, headed to Europe, Latin America and Greater China in the spring. The Motorola Defy Mini is a very compact ruggedized handset running Gingerbread, but what makes it even more attractive is its affordable price tag. Motorola unveiled the Defy Mini with a 3.2-inch display, and the device is a tinier sibling of the original Motorola Defy.
The 3.2” screen is water and scratch-resistant, dust proof and comes with Gorilla Glass and a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. On the back there’s a modest 3-megapixel camera with LED flash, while up front Motorola has included a VGA snapper for video calls.
