HTC says Android 4.0 update coming in March to select models

Considering that the white HTC Sensation is shipping in Europe starting March 1st with Android 4.0, it might be no surprise that the Sensation series will be the first HTC phones to be updated to the latest Android version. Starting at the end of next month, the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XE will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich with the HTC Sensation XL receiving it shortly afterward.

Vodafone bringing LTE speeds to Germany, with the HTC Velocity

HTC has confirmed plans to bring its very first LTE handset to Germany, with the launch of the Velocity. The phone, known Stateside as the Vivid and in South Korea as the Raider, features a 4.5-inch qHD touchscreen and is fueled by a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU. The Gingerbread-laced device also boasts 1GB of RAM, 16GB of flash memory and an eight-megapixel camera, along with your standard 1.3-megapixel front facing sensor. As far as networking goes, you'll find support for quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/2100 MHz and, most compelling, dualband LTE at 800/2600 MHz. Vodafone confirmed the news to Germany's Computer Woche, though it has yet to offer a price or release date.

CFO of HTC Winston Yung admitted the company “dropped the ball” in 2011 and its high-end devices are not selling as well as expected. This is due mostly to HTC’s hardware being substantially thicker than the competition and often having poor battery life.
“While short term performance may not meet the results as expected, we have gained further experience and advancement in the areas of brand management and product innovation,” CEO Peter Chou stated in a press release. “These fundamental strengths and the groundwork we have laid will take us into 2012 with a renewed focus and determination.”
His message seems to echo the same one given by the company’s CFO: HTC shit the bed.

White HTC Sensation with Android 4.0 ICS coming March 1 (Update: No ICS)

HTC has announced that it will offer its Sensation smartphone in "ice white" come March 1. What is more interesting, however, is that this version of the Sensation (which was originally announced way back in April 2011) will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich already installed, making it the first HTC device with Android 4.0 on the market. The new ice white Sensation was announced in the Netherlands, but we would be surprised if HTC didn't bring it to every market that the original Sensation is available in. HTC isn't stiffing existing Sensation owners either, as it says an upgrade to Android 4.0 will be available for their handsets soon.

HTC Radar 4G coming to Videotron, possibly other Canadian carriers

MobileSyrup reports that the T-Mobile US version of the HTC Radar will be coming to Videotron, a Quebec-based regional carrier in Canada.
The handset will be selling around $100 on contract, and they report that since Videotron uses AWS, the handset will likely also end up on WIND Mobile and Mobilicity.

Turns out, a member of the xda-developers forum has managed to make an APK that puts a variety of Redmond's x86 operating systems on the HTC EVO 3D and its 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon silicon -- Windows 95, 98, XP and even your favorite flavor of Linux are all available for the three dee-equipped handset. HTC, one of the top Android phone makers is believed to be cooking up some impressive new features with the launch of its upcoming custom user interface, Sense 4.0. This new custom UI will likely be an overhaul compared to the last version (Sense 3.5), users can expect improved typography, displays widgets, and data.

HTC Titan II passes through the FCC

We have some good news for those of you waiting on the HTC Titan II, the LTE version of the Windows Phone 7 phablet. The phone cleared the FCC with AT&T-flavored radios, and appears ready (by which we mean “legal”) to launch.
Of course marketing plans and product availability also drive the decision on when to release a new phone, but if the rumored March 18th release date holds up, the federals government won’t stand in the way of its release.
In addition to screen real estate that rivals Texas, the Titan II will be packing a larger battery (presumably to fend off the LTE juice-drain phenomena) and a 16 megapixel camera that will be tricked out with all the bells and whistles.

Some enterprising HTC Rezound owners at the XDA Developers forums have discovered that by putting a GSM SIM card in the Rezound that you get more network options to choose from. Switching will reportedly allow owners to place and receive calls on GSM networks, although the phone often resets itself. In some cases they are reporting data access over GSM networks as well, although SMS is generally reported to not be working.

Canada’s TELUS is rolling out an OTA update for the HTC Desire HD, bringing the smartphone up to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Long before legislation was dominating the headlines, the Carrier IQ controversy raised the hackles of tech geeks and privacy advocates around the world. HTC Titan having antenna issues?

WPSauce reports that arguably the best Windows Phone out at the moment, the HTC Titan, has a fatal flaw, due to its metal unibody design.
They report dramatically poor call quality which they blame on the antenna, and HTC support appear to agree that there is a problem.
