T-Mobile announces new Value plans; to be available July 24

Remember when T-Mobile quietly pulled the plug on its Even More Plus plans? That was a pretty solid reason for us to believe that something new was coming down the road bound to replace them. Well, it seems like our assumptions were really onto something as the new T-Mobile Value plans have just been made official.
Unlike the case was with the Even More Plus offerings, T-Mobile Value plans will be tied to a 2-year contract so bear that in mind if you are not much into commitment. However, the purchase of a brand new smartphone is not necessary – just bring your own handset and switch over to a Value plan of a caliber that suits you most. Nevertheless, if you have been thinking of getting a n...

T-Mobile now offering caller ID; it'll cost you $4 per month

For those of us old enough to remember the days before mobile phones, the era of landline domination had a couple of advantages compared to the incredible computers we carry around in our pockets today. First and foremost is voice quality, you simply can’t get the same type of fidelity on a mobile phonethan you can on a regular landline, but with “HD Voice” that’s no longer the case. Sadly, it isn’t yet widely rolled out, and in the countries where it does exist, the UK comes to mind, there’s no inter-operator HD Voice support, meaning if you’re on Three and call someone using Orange, despite the fact that both of you are on HD Voice enabled devices and on HD Voice enabled networks, you’re s...

AT&T and Sprint Subpoenaed by 9 States Over T-Mobile

AT&T and Sprint Subpoenaed by 9 States Over T-Mobile

Posted on Jul 13, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: T-MobileAT&T

A group of nine states, including Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington, have sent subpoenas to both AT&T and Sprint regarding AT&T's proposed acquisition of T-Mobile. The states have requested that Sprint send them all the same materials that Sprint has so far submitted to the Federal Communications Commission this year regarding the acquisition. Sprint has opposed the acquisition from day one and has delivered reams of material to the FCC in hopes of dissuading the FCC from approving the deal. The same states sent subpoenas to AT&T as well, though the nature of those subpoenas was not made clear by AT&T. Individual U.S. states do not h...

Huawei Sonic with AWS endorsed by FCC, fittingly given T-Mobile nametag

Huawei Sonic with AWS endorsed by FCC, fittingly given T-Mobile nametag

Posted on Jul 11, 2011 by MG1

Turkey may have had the first yuckle with the Huawei Sonic, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll get the last laugh. The Gingerbread handset received warm welcomes on TurkCell due to its inexpensive cost -- and included NFC functionality included doesn't hurt either. Just as it officially launched there, however, we were pleasantly surprised to see the Huawei UMG587 -- labelled the "T-Mobile Sonic" -- get pushed through the FCC. The docs not only confirm 850 / 1900 / 2100 3G bands thrown on top of T-Mobile's AWS, but also bluntly mention HSPA+ download speeds will be maxed out at 42Mbps. We found it interesting that Turkcell's model only reaches 7.2Mbps, so we're hoping the full maximum...

HTC Marvel Hits FCC, Heading For T-Mobile

HTC Marvel Hits FCC, Heading For T-Mobile

Posted on Jul 06, 2011 by MG1

Back in May, a leaked T-Mobile roadmap revealed a wide variety of delicious smartphones waiting to come out of the oven. One of the handsets getting close to making its entry is the HTC Marvel that’s slated for a July 15th launch. The handset has just passed through the FCC, indicating it should be right on time.
The HTC Marvel is essentially the T-Mobile version of the HTC Wildfire S for which we did a full review back in April. The FCC documents label the handset as only PG76240 and indicate that the device will sport T-Mobile’s GSM and WCDMA bands.

T-Mobile offers unlimited summer surfing

T-Mobile offers unlimited summer surfing

T-Mobile has announced that it will be giving mobile surfers on its network unlimited data this summer - with the offer available to both new an existing customers.
To qualify, you'll need to sign up for a 24-month deal worth £25.54 or more, or take out a £5.10 mobile data bundle if you don't want to change your current contract.
Tim Dowling, vice president of propositions (awesome job title) T-Mobile UK, said:
"We know that more and more of our customers are using the internet on their phone to make the most out of their smartphone, so that’s why we’ve chosen to give them the opportunity to receive truly unlimited internet for the duration of their plan.
"So this summer, T-Mobile customers...

Motorola DEFY on T-Mobile UK finally getting Android 2.2 Froyo

Motorola DEFY on T-Mobile UK finally getting Android 2.2 Froyo

Posted on Jun 30, 2011 by MG1

Most owners of the Motorola DEFY in the UK have probably already received the update to Android 2.2 Froyo that was released a few weeks back, but those who happen to have bought their DEFY through T-Mobile have been left in the lurch. They shouldn't be upset for too much longer, though, as T-Mobile has announced that users can expect the update to roll out at the beginning of July. Android 2.2 Froyo brings a number of improvements, including faster performance and the ability to move apps to the SD card. T-Mobile users will probably be happy to get the latest and greatest from April 2010, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a 2.3 Gingerbread update for the DEFY.

Sprint's HTC Evo 3D Caught Prepping For T-Mo's 4G Network?

Sprint's HTC Evo 3D Caught Prepping For T-Mo's 4G Network?

Posted on Jun 30, 2011 by MG1

HTC’s line of Evo phones have long been Sprint exclusives, and are arguably the number three carrier’s shining stars. Interestingly enough, Sprint’s most recent (and also most awesome) phone, the Evo 3D has been spotted passing through the FCC sporting T-Mobile’s AWS bands. A trip to the FCC doesn’t necessarily mean that T-Mobile is for sure, without a doubt picking up the Evo 3D, but it does give a little hope to T-Mobile customers who aren’t keen on the pink carrier’s current front-runner, the Sensation 4G.
Here’s a quick specs refresher on the HTC Evo 3D: It packs glasses-free 3D onto its 4.3-inch qHD display, touts a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and comes wit...

T-Mobile confirms myTouch 4G Slide, touts powerful camera

T-Mobile confirms myTouch 4G Slide, touts powerful camera

Posted on Jun 29, 2011 by MG1

After a very brief tease, T-Mobile has already unveiled the myTouch 4G Slide. The Android 2.3 slider is as powerful as the HTC Sensation 4G with its 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon and 1080p video but has a very heavy camera emphasis, most of all in apps. The eight-megapixel sensor is back-illuminated and has a bright f2.2 aperture; the custom software also cuts out shutter lag and adds extras not always seen on phones, such as HDR (high dynamic range), sweep panoramas, and continuous shooting.
The phone runs on the same Sense 3.0 custom interface layer as the Sensation but with a slew of T-Mobile apps on top. An upgraded "genius" button versus the older Slide kicks in a complete Dragon Dictatio...

T-Mobile Nexus S Finally Gets Google Talk Video Chat Over 3G/4G

T-Mobile Nexus S Finally Gets Google Talk Video Chat Over 3G/4G

Posted on Jun 29, 2011 by MG1

Google Talk and Apple FaceTime both offer nice video calling services, but they differ in that FaceTime requires a Wi-Fi connection to work. Google’s offering was more ideal, but it didn’t quite pan out for T-Mobile customers. Since its launch back in May, Nexus S owners with the carrier have not been able to video chat over the cellular network. Well, that has changed today.
The video chat feature was first introduced in May for Android 2.3.4 devices, which meant the Google Nexus S. Owners of the device on the WiMAX network had no problem using the feature on their cellular networks, but for unspecified reasons, the service would not work on T-Mobile. T-Mobile Nexus S owners still had to re...

T-Mobile Rolls Out HSPA+ In 7 New Regions — Is Yours One?

Filed in: T-Mobile

Another day, another carrier expanding their 4G network. This time around, it’s T-Mobile… which means calling it “4G” is technically a bit of a stretch, but hey, we’ve beat that horse enough at this point.
The latest regions to show up on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ coverage map: Chico, Calif.; Redding, Calif.; Barnstable, Mass.; Vineland, N.J.; Lancaster, Penn.; Ogden, Utah, and Winchester, Va.
If nothing else, T-Mobile customers at Chico State should be glad that they can totally send each other regrettable text messages, like, way faster now.

FCC report doesn't tip how it will rule on AT&T, T-Mobile deal

Posted on Jun 29, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: T-MobileAT&T

A new report from the Federal Communications Commission isn’t tipping its hand on how it will come down on the potentially huge AT&T, T-Mobile deal.
The governmental agency said, “a merger can potentially form a stronger provider that restrains competitors from engaging in anticompetitive behavior, or may increase the likelihood that the merged firm may itself, or in coordination with other firms, would obtain or maintain market power.” So, basically the FCC is saying the AT&T, T-Mobile deal could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing. Thanks, guys!

PC Mag just finished its extensive annual test of the nation's carrier networks, and the results are in. After driving with six people for 6000 miles, and using 16 smartphones in the process, more than 140 000 tests were made in 21 major cities, with specialized software supplied by Sensorly, to measure the network coverage and speeds of Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, MetroPCS and Cricket.
Without going much into the details of it by geographical area, we'll just list what the tests found as an end result. When facts talk, marketing walks, so have a look at the charts below that say it all. Hit the source link, if you want a breakdown by region or city - the 21 test cities were Atlanta, Bo...
