Posted on Sep 07, 2011 by MG1

Many of you T-Mobile fans are anxiously awaiting the Galaxy S II and we’re happy to tell you that a leaked roadmap says it should launch at the end of October.
TMoNews got its hands on the leaked schedule for the next few months and it shows that the Android superphone from Samsung should be landing in late October but we still don’t have a specific release date. We know the Sprint version of the Galaxy S II will be coming first in September, so let’s hope it doesn’t lag too long.
Confirming a previous rumor, the leaked roadmap says late October should also be the release date of the HTC Ruby, or what could be called the “Amaze 4G.” This Android beast is expected to have a 4.3-inch screen an...

Sprint sues to block AT&T purchase of T-Mobile

Sprint sues to block AT&T purchase of T-Mobile

Following in the footsteps of the Department of Justice, Sprint has announced its lawsuit to block the proposed purchase of T-Mobile by rival AT&T.
Sprint, a longtime opponent of the buyout, and one of the most vocal against it, takes the position that the purchase of T-Mobile by AT&T would be bad for the consumer and detrimental to the wireless market in the U.S. Sprint points out in its lawsuit that the acquisition would harm both retail consumer and corporate customers by stifling innovation and causing higher prices. It continues to state that the purchase would "entrench the duopoly control of AT&T and Verizon," and therefore concentrate more than three-fourths of the market and 90 perc...

AT&T May Offer to Sell 25% of T-Mobile to Push Deal Through

According to sources cited by Reuters, AT&T is preparing a two-stage plan in order to convince the government to allow its proposed acquisition of T-Mobile to proceed. First, AT&T is prepared to make guarantees that it won't raise the prices of T-Mobile's current voice/data services. One of the government's fears is that the acquisition would lead to more expensive services. Second, AT&T is said to be considering an asset sale of up to 25% of T-Mobile's spectrum and customer base. One of the major concerns voiced by the Justice Department is that the acquisition would lead to less market competition. It recently revealed that AT&T would control more than 50% of 17 different markets across th...

While IFA is heating up in Europe, huge news is happening stateside as the US Department of Justice has filed to block AT&T’s planned $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile over anti-competitive concerns, according to reports appearing almost simultaneously on Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal and Reuters.
The DOJ has grounded its filing by saying that “AT&T’s elimination of T-Mobile as an independent, low-priced rival would remove a significant competitive force from the market.” In an official statement on its website, the department clarified that the deal would result in "in higher prices, poorer quality services, fewer choices and fewer innovative products." It also explained that AT&T wa...

New report resurrects T-Mobile iPhone 5 rumor

Posted on Aug 25, 2011 by MG15

Will wonders never cease? Just one day after The Wall Street Journal reported Sprint will begin selling Apple’s iPhone 5 in October, a new report resurrects rumors that T-Mobile will also launch Apple’s fifth-generation phone later this fall. Apple blog MacTrast claims T-Mobile will launch the new iPhone in early to mid-October, citing “a contact within T-Mobile who claims to have been briefed on the matter.” BGR exclusively published photos this past April revealing that Apple has indeed been testing an iPhone model compatible with T-Mobile’s 3G network. We also speculated in early July that Apple would launch its iPhone on all major U.S. carriers this fall. Apple’s next-generation smartpho...

The other day, we reported that AT&T had hired investment bankers to sell off part of its combined network if required to by the Feds to complete its purchase of T-Mobile. According to a letter written by AT&T's legal team and leaked on the FCC web site, AT&T could spend $3.8 billion to build out LTE to rural areas of the country and match Verizon's plan to cover 97% of the U.S. population with 4G.

Rumor: T-Mobile 200 MB/month data plan to get overage charges

Rumor: T-Mobile 200 MB/month data plan to get overage charges

Posted on Aug 12, 2011 by MG3

Filed in: T-Mobile

T-Mobile, one of our favorite operators due to the pricing structure of the plans they offer and their ability to not screw up devices with additional preloaded software, is rumored to be modifying their 200 MB per month data plan. Until now users who were subscribed to T-Mobile’s data packages have enjoyed high speed data at whatever bucket they opted to pay for (200 MB, 2 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB), and then once said monthly cap was hit speeds would be throttled back to 2G levels. You could then consume as much data as you wanted to at said lower speeds. We’re huge fans of that because some data is better than no data at all.

T-Mobile begins rollout of G-Slate Android 3.1 Honeycomb update

T-Mobile begins rollout of G-Slate Android 3.1 Honeycomb update

Posted on Aug 12, 2011 by MG3

The T-Mobile G-Slate is catching up with the Joneses, that is if the Joneses are the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Motorola XOOM, as it is now being updated to Android 3.1 Honeycomb. The update adds Google Videos support, resizable widgets, USB accessory support, and an expanded recent apps list. T-Mobile is rolling out the update in a staggered fashion, and users should get a notification when it is ready to be downloaded and installed. T-Mobile makes a point to say that it cannot expedite the rollout of the update, so if you don't get it right away, you will just have to be patient and wait it out.

FCC halts AT&T's acquisition of Qualcomm spectrum, bundles it with T-Mobile merger review

FCC halts AT&T's acquisition of Qualcomm spectrum, bundles it with T-Mobile merger review

Posted on Aug 10, 2011 by MG1

AT&T's LTE spectrum acquisitions just hit a minor bump in the federal road. In a recently released FCC statement, Wireless Bureau chief Rick Kaplan announced the decision to stop the 180 day review clock on the telco's proposed takeover of Qualcomm's 700MHz spectrum. The $1.9 billion deal, inked last December, isn't getting the regulatory axe, but due to a "number of related issues" concerning spectrum overlap with the still unapproved T-Mobile merger, the commission is bundling the two into one future review. Maybe it's time the carrier's industry backers pen another letter of support to Chairman Genachowski.

HTC Ruby shows its T-Mobile skin, Android aspirations

Posted on Aug 09, 2011 by MG1

Well folks, now we know. It looks like the HTC Ruby that was leaked via a series of hyper-sensitive office photos is headed to T-Mobile. You know the one -- a couple weeks back, when someone underestimated the glare of the HTC Flyer and dropped their seemingly harmless photos on Flickr? Yeah, that's the handset in question. Not much dirt on the specs, besides the familiar key layout cluing us into Google's obvious underpinnings.. and just maybe, we'll get some fresh baked Gingerbread goodness. Either way, more info should be on the way soon, but until then, careful to check your reflections, friends.

T-Mobile “aggressively” working on resolving G2 battery issues; feedback greatly appreciated

Posted on Aug 08, 2011 by MG1

As we told you about a week ago, an increasing number of T-Mobile G2 smartphones are affected by power management problems. Reportedly, some unlucky G2 owners are witnessing their device's battery being drained in a matter of hours irregardless of whether the smartphone is in use or in standby mode.
Fortunately, T-Mobile is already working hard on resolving the issue, and you are also invited to provide your feedback, if you wish. On its support web page, the carrier has started a thread where users are free to describe the symptoms that their T-Mobile G2 is experiencing in an effort to provide a solution in the shortest time possible.
Reading through the posts we noticed that switching the ...

Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S II now available for Stateside use on AT&T and T-Mobile

Want the Samsung Galaxy S II so badly that you can't wait for it to be offered by your carrier? Well, if you are an AT&T or T-Mobile customer and don't mind spending the money, an unlocked version of the phone offered right now by Newegg will let you use the pipelines belonging to the two GSM mobile operators (although AT&T users will have 3G only). The unit, available from the retailer for $649.99, has quad-band GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) and quad-band UMTS (850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100) connectivity. And for those Canadians who don't want to buy the phone from Virgin Mobile or Bell, Newegg Canada is offering an unlocked model for the same price.
Besides having to pay an unsubsidized price fo...
