Xbox TV puts Microsoft ahead of Apple and Google

Xbox TV puts Microsoft ahead of Apple and Google

Posted on Dec 06, 2011 by MG1

Gaming has long been Microsoft’s wildcard: while the company struggles to find its feet with Windows Phone, and faces a difficult tablet market when its Windows 8 slates finally appear, the Xbox 360 continues to sell strongly. Now Xbox TV has arrived to not only reassure 360-owning gamers that they made the right console choice, but broaden the 360′s appeal to a whole new segment. It’s not entirely fashionable to praise Microsoft, especially when it’s over something that, buried in the company’s history books, they’ve tried and failed at before. Smart TV has suffered the usual ignominies and from the usual flaws: sluggish hardware, confusing interface, dawdling internet connections. Now, wit...

Microsoft sells nearly 1 million Xbox 360s in record week in Xbox history

Posted on Nov 30, 2011 by MG1

The aging Xbox 360 just recorded the biggest sales week in its not-quite-venerable history, moving nearly one million units over the seven day period, specifically selling more than 960,000 consoles in the U.S. during the week of Black Friday. For a console that’s entering the seventh year of its product lifestyle, that’s one very impressive statistic. Of course, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the pivotal factors here, but the numbers themselves are still stellar, to say the very least.

Microsoft rumored to be working on Office for iPad

Microsoft rumored to be working on Office for iPad

Posted on Nov 30, 2011 by MG1

The folks over at The Daily claim to have obtained information that Microsoft is planning on releasing a version of Office for the iPad. With Office being Microsoft’s second biggest seller, second only to Windows, and the iPad accounting for over 80 percent of the tablet market, it appears that an Office for iPad app would be a powerhouse release for Microsoft.
Since Apple has already established a $10 price point for its productivity iPad apps, such as Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, The Daily is speculating that Microsoft will release around the same $10 mark in order to be competitive.
Microsoft is also working on the next edition of Office that will be fully compatible with OS X Lion as wel...

Microsoft Working On Not One, But Two New Xbox Product Lines

Microsoft Working On Not One, But Two New Xbox Product Lines

Posted on Nov 28, 2011 by MG1

Finally, next generation gaming consoles are around the corner. It will have an uplifting effect on the entire gaming industry as it will raise the bar for visual and technical detail in games. Many of today's games are designed keeping consoles in mind, and so their PC platform versions don't look much more than what has come to be known as "console-ports". There are a few exceptions to this, but it would be refreshing to see most game developers move on to creating games that take advantage of today's insanely powerful PC platform, because the console platform will have caught up technologically.
Rumors have it, that Microsoft will be developing not one, but two product lines that succeed...

Kleissner created a Windows 8 bootkit that can bypass the User Account Control using just 14KB of exploit code. It’s said to be the first proof-of-concept to find a vulnerability in Windows 8 and he’s posted a demo video of the process.

Microsoft announces Windows-specific Kinect for 2012 release

Microsoft announces Windows-specific Kinect for 2012 release

Posted on Nov 23, 2011 by MG1

While hackers have been having their way with the Kinect on the PC for a long, long time, Microsoft itself has only recently embraced this sort of behavior. First it was with an official SDK and then, soon after, a follow-up letting things go commercial. We've been eagerly awaiting Office integration -- imagine lazily waving away every boring PPT that lands in your inbox -- but also struggling to figure out just how such a device would fit on our cluttered desks. Microsoft is now promising a PC-specific version to release sometime in 2012, able to focus on objects as close as 50cm from the lens -- quite an improvement given our current Kinect seems unhappy if we're standing anywhere within f...

Windows 8 Upgrade Streamlined to 11 Clicks

Posted on Nov 23, 2011 by MG1

For those who upgrade between succeeding versions of Microsoft Windows, the upgrade installer can be cumbersome. There are way too many prompts and clicks. Microsoft is working to make the upgrade package of its next major version of Windows, for now referred to as Windows 8, streamlined to as few as 11 clicks. The new installer will be designed to perform most of its tasks without needing user input.
Microsoft will implement a new web-delivery method, where you purchase your Windows 8 license online, and the installer downloads your soft copy to you. It is pre-fed with your 25-character product key. Microsoft's next major Windows release is slated for 2012.

Microsoft’s Internal Goal Is To Sell About 100 Million Windows Phones In 2012

Posted on Nov 22, 2011 by MG1

We have got some information on what’s going in Windows Phone team at Microsoft. First of all, Microsoft has set an internal goal to sell about 100 million Windows Phone devices in 2012, which is pretty ambitious. Even the network operators around the world are expecting Windows Phone to make 30% of the smartphone marketshare in 2012. This goal can be attained only if Nokia scale up their Windows Phone production with various models around the world.
Another information we received is around the support of dual core processors in Windows Phones. Even though Microsoft had time to deliver support for multiple cores in Windows Phone Mango, they didn’t deliver it because of the Nokia partnership...
