Microsoft-branded smartphone rumor

Microsoft-branded smartphone rumor

Posted on Jun 22, 2012 by MG1

Microsoft’s first attempt at making its own mobile phones wasn’t exactly a success. In fact, it would be fair to say that the Microsoft KIN was one of the genuine flaming-bus-crash-into-an-orphanage disasters of recent mobile phone industry history. But Microsoft apparently thinks it’s older and wiser now, and it wants to try making its own phones again, according to Nomura analyst Rick Sherlund. Per Business Insider, Sherlund sent out a note today stating that Steve Ballmer and his merry band “may be working with a contract manufacturer to develop their own handset for Windows Phone 8.” What’s more, Sherman said that “it is unclear to us whether this would be a reference platform or whether...

Posted on May 30, 2012 by MG3

We have heard that Facebook has a new impetus to develop a mobile platform of its own. Now Paris-based Paul Amsellem, managing director of Mobile Network Group, a mobile marketing company, suggests the company could get into the game most easily by buying Nokia and releasing a Windows Phone.
"Facebook needs somebody with an understanding of networking, technology, carrier relationships and logistics," he said. "They can acquire one of these two players for not a lot of money."

The first version of Skype for Windows Phone will not support low-end "Tango" devices, Microsoft has revealed. Although the company delivered a 1.0 release of Skype for Windows Phone over the weekend, Microsoft says it will only install and run on devices with 512MB of memory. The majority of Windows Phone devices include 512MB of RAM, but Microsoft's latest "Tango" handsets only feature 256MB of memory.

Skype App Won’t Support Low End Windows Phone Devices

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

Microsoft just released the first version of Skype app in Windows Phone Marketplace last night. While most of us will be enjoying the app, the upcoming Windows Phone Tango devices with 256MB RAM such as Nokia Lumia 610 won’t have access to this most wanted app. In the release notes by Skype team posted yesterday, they have mentioned that your Windows Phone requires a minimum of 512MB of memory to install and use Skype which basically tells us that Windows Phone Tango devices are not supported.

Rumor: Microsoft to start pushing out Windows Phone Tango this month

Rumor: Microsoft to start pushing out Windows Phone Tango this month

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

Since Windows Phone first started shipping back in Q4 2010, there have been two software updates: NoDo, which added copy and paste and CDMA support; and Mango, which added multitasking, a newer version of Internet Explorer, and a whole bunch of UI tweaks. Now there’s a third update scheduled to go out this month called Tango. Some of you may have heard that codename before when we reported on the Nokia Lumia 610. That device is special because it’s the first Windows Phone to run on lower end hardware specifications, which is a feature of Tango. Other features of Tango include the ability to handle SIM contacts, to send multiple images via MMS, and there’s likely many other small things that ...

Nokia Windows Phone 8 handsets showing up on T-Mobile, Verizon

Nokia Windows Phone 8 handsets showing up on T-Mobile, Verizon

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

Moving away from the hubbub about Windows Phone 8 upgrades, we now also have increasing evidence of actual new Windows Phone 8 hardware being tested in the wild.
The latest is via DSLReport’s mobile speed test, which shows the user agent of two Windows Phone 8 handsets, one named Qualcomm Fluid and the other Nokia Fluid. Both of course have been spotted before, but now the full user agent confirms that these are Windows Phone 8 handsets running IE10.
The Verizon handset also seems pretty snappy, likely indicating LTE on board. The same can unfortunately not be said for the T-Mobile speed test.

Microsoft files patent for dual display phone

Microsoft files patent for dual display phone

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

Microsoft has filed a patent for a dual display phone. While there are many other dual display phones already, what sets Microsoft’s application apart is that it would use as much of the back surface of the phone as possible, including even curling over the sides, and would ideally use a low-powered display, like e-ink, which would allow the device to display information which does not change very frequently, like the date and time, or Microsoft suggests possible device logos or tattoos.

Alleged Nokia poster template reveals Windows Phone 8 branding

Alleged Nokia poster template reveals Windows Phone 8 branding

Posted on Apr 04, 2012 by MG3

Make of that what you will, but a tipster just sent us a picture, which is claimed to be originating from the confines of Nokia, and allegedly is some sort of a non-final poster template.
Whether real or fake we'll let you decide, we don't know what the pro-printing jargon is for such a seemingly transparent plastic poster sheet, if that's it at all, but what we found most interesting in case this has some merits, is the Windows Phone 8 signage.

New Images Of LG Windows Phone LS831 Emerges

New Images Of LG Windows Phone LS831 Emerges

Posted on Apr 03, 2012 by MG3

While we are still not sure about LG releasing another Windows Phone 7.5 device, there were numerous leaks on their devices/prototypes. This one is LS831 which we saw in last October when it passed the FCC. The device design looks outdated to me and it has a 5MP camera along with a front cam. Since it features a CDMA band, it should release only on Sprint in US if there is any possibility. Visit the source link for more images.
