HTC's 'major' news only involves Beats audio
Like UnlikeFiled in: HTCMonster
Just hours after promising a "major" news event, HTC chief Peter Chou talked down expectations by revealing the plans ahead of time. The phone maker is investing $300 million into Beats Electronics' audio processing and will build it into future phones and tablets. One HTC device shipping this year would carry Beats audio, Chou said in an AllThingsD interview, without saying what.

ITC to investigate Apple's second patent suit against HTC
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleHTC
The U.S. International Trade Commission on Monday said it would investigate a second patent complaint Apple filed recently against HTC. The complaint seeks to ban the importation and sale of multiple HTC devices that Apple alleges are infringing on its intellectual property. Three companies will be targeted in the Commission’s investigation — HTC Corp., HTC America, Inc. and Exedea, Inc. — and a target date for the completion of the investigation will be set within 45 days. The ITC ruled in a separate case last month that HTC infringes on two Apple patents, and HTC said it would appeal the judgement. Apple executives reportedly claimed recently that they are willing to settle various patent ...

HTC Ruby shows its T-Mobile skin, Android aspirations
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCT-MobileAmaze 4G
Well folks, now we know. It looks like the HTC Ruby that was leaked via a series of hyper-sensitive office photos is headed to T-Mobile. You know the one -- a couple weeks back, when someone underestimated the glare of the HTC Flyer and dropped their seemingly harmless photos on Flickr? Yeah, that's the handset in question. Not much dirt on the specs, besides the familiar key layout cluing us into Google's obvious underpinnings.. and just maybe, we'll get some fresh baked Gingerbread goodness. Either way, more info should be on the way soon, but until then, careful to check your reflections, friends.

T-Mobile's HTC Ruby caught in the wild
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCAmaze 4G
Remember the HTC Ruby, the unannounced Android smartphone which we caught at Flickr? Well we now have a more revealing photo to show you, clearly suggesting this baby is slated to hit T-Mobile. And while we have no other information at the moment — like the release date and price — we think of the Ruby as a mashup between the HTC Sensation and some myTouch model. In that sense, we assume (speculate) it will come with HSPA+ (4G) and Wi-Fi connectivity on board, 5-megapixel camera, 3.7-inch or bigger WVGA touchscreen, along with all other “standard for an Android smartphone” goodies like sensors, Bluetooth and so on. Moreover, Android 2.3 Gingerbread will run the show right from the start.

HTC Developer site goes live: OpenSense SDK and kernel source offered aplenty
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTC
HTC's flipped the switch on its development website, which was designed to be a "one-stop shop" for a wide variety of SDKs and other resources for developers. As promised, the manufacturer's OpenSense SDK -- which includes a S3D SDK for HTC's 3D stereoscopic interface and pen SDK for its Scribe feature -- is now available for download; there's also plenty of kernel source codes to peruse and access. Finally, the Bootloader Unlock web tool, one of the most highly anticipated pieces of software that the company's promised to unleash, only shows as "coming soon" on the site. There hasn't been any official word on when it'll go live, but we're expecting it to happen later this month as the EVO 3...

HTC buys Dashwire to bolster cloud services
Like UnlikeFiled in: HTC
HTC plans to make its Sense UI much more cloud-friendly with the $18.5 million purchase of the cloud-service provider Dashwire.
“Cloud services are key to delivering the promise of connected services to our customers,” said Fred Liu, HTC president of engineering and operations, in a prepared statement. “People want access to all of their important content wherever they are on any device,” he added.
The Dashwire team was responsible for multiple cloud services for mobile phones, including the aptly named Awesome Drop. This is a cloud-based file syncing program which has the neat ability to let you drag and drop files in a browser to have it sync to your Android phone. It’s a very “Wow” moment...

Screenshots of the HTC Puccini are leaked
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHTC
With a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and a 10 inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, the HTC Puccini was made to compete with the other 10 inch Android tablets like the Motorola XOOM and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Taiwan based firm did take the Scribe Technology from its 7 inch HTC Flyer and has made the stylus a dedicated part of the larger tablet. The camera on the back will be 8MP and yes, there will also be a front-facing lens. The Android Honeycomb OS will be running the show.
HTC has certainly customized this tablet as you can tell from the screenshot of the QWERTY which shows that a numeric pad will be used for quick entry of numbers. Besides the bloatware that AT&T so generously...

HTC ThunderBolt getting Gingerbread this quarter
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsHTCGoogleAndroid 2.3ThunderBolt
The HTC ThunderBolt was the first 4G-enabled smartphone on Verizon's speedy LTE network, but since its launch not much has changed with its software – the handset continues to run on the quickly aging Android 2.2 Froyo, even though back in March HTC spilled the beans about an upcoming Gingerbread update. Well, four months later, it's still coming, but this time we have a particular time period for it – the third quarter of the year.
HTC representatives have been spreading the word about the update which will add Gingerbread tweaks and features, and fix some problems along the way:
“We are working hard to address the issues you have mentioned with future updates for the device. We are excited...

HTC files 'invalidation action' against Apple in the UK
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleHTC
HTC's legal battle with Apple has taken a new twist, with the Taiwanese giant announcing that it had filed an 'invalidation action' against the US company in the UK courts.
The action is essentially a challenge to another company's patent that questions the validity on grounds of lack of information or that the holder did not invent the product.
HTC Corp. Made an official statement to announce the action adding: "we don't comment on pending litigation.
"As a leading smartphone innovator, we respect intellectual property of others and will defend our own intellectual property as needed."

The latest salvo in the increasingly bitter war between the two companies is just one of a number of...
