Samsung denies meeting with Apple to discuss patent dispute
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
Samsung on Monday denied Apple attorney Harold McElhinny’s claim that the two companies are currently holding high-level talks in an attempt to settle ongoing patent disputes. U.S. district judge Lucy Koh told the companies last week to meet and discuss possible amicable solutions to their disputes. McElhinny responded by saying executives from the two companies are “meeting and talking,” but Samsung is singing a different tune. “We are unaware of any meetings or discussions between the two sides over this matter,” a Samsung spokesperson said in a statement. It’s odd that Apple’s counsel would falsely claim the two companies are holding meetings if they are not, but we’re sure judge Koh will...

Apple may have iOS powered TV planned for fall launch
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsOperating SystemsApple
Apple may have an iOS powered TV in the works. According to Daily Tech, one former Apple executive recently said that customers will soon be able to “go into an Apple retail store and be able to walk out with a TV. It’s perfect.” Apple won’t build the televisions itself, though. Instead a manufacturer like Samsung may be behind the product. The former exec also said that the Cupertino-based firm will “blow Netflix and all those other guys away,” so we presume there’s a connected aspect that will allow users to access iTunes content in a manner similar to the current Apple TV product. Apple has been rumored to be working on a connected television numerous times in the past, though obviously n...

iOS5 faster than Mango at HTML5 rendering? Wrong!
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftAppleiOS 5Windows Phone 7.5
Winrumors have claimed that the latest version of iOS5 has overtaken Windows Phone 7 Mango in the HTML5 speed rendering stakes, going from 1-2 fps to 32 fps, faster than the 25 fps demonstrated for Mango at MIX11.
What Tom has not taken into account was that Mango has continued to improve itself, and in testing done by The Next Web Windows Phone 7 repeatedly hit 41 FPS, and this is of course with a Snapdragon processor generations older than that in the iPhone 4.

Apple just took the wraps off of its new 3TB Time Capsule automatic wireless backup hard drive. The company said that it will continue to offer a 2TB version of its Time Capsule alongside the new 3TB version, and it doesn’t look like there are any other differentiating specs. Apple appears to have also quietly updated its Airport Extreme product with support for up to 450Mbps file transfers over both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands, and the website has also been refreshed a bit.

Apple suppliers cut iPhone 4 production ahead of iPhone 5 launch
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4iPhone 4s
Printed circuit board (PCB) suppliers in Taiwan have noticed “disappointing orders” for iPhone and iPad hardware, according to DigiTimes. As a result, the suppliers have cut quotes by 10% on average for the second quarter, noting that there’s no sign of a rebound. The drop in iPhone hardware orders suggests that Apple’s highly anticipated next-generation iPhone is imminent; it’s largely expected that the company will take the wraps off of the device in September.

iPhone 5 could have new case design, possible August launch
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Looks like Apple's latest handset might not be an iPhone 4S after all, with the Cupertino based company planning a brand new design for the smartphone.
BGR has cited a reliable source as expecting a "radical new case design for the upcoming iPhone, though we have not been given any additional details".
The website is also pointing to an Apple event at the beginning of August, aiming to get the iPhone 5 into stores by the end of that month.
Apple had until now been believed to be releasing iPhone 5 details at their iPod focussed annual September event. It may now be that they move iPod release information forward so as not to distract from the new phone launch.
The rumours of a case redesig...

Apple tells component suppliers it wants a 10% discount
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
I would imagine in the computer component and hardware world, landing Apple for your firm is a big deal. I would also imagine when Apple asks for a price cut rather than lose the contract you probably render unto Jobs what Jobs wants and cut the price. Apple has reportedly demanded that its component suppliers cut their quotes by 10%. The suppliers the cut is said to be asked of cover a lot of hardware used in Apple goods.
DigiTimes reports that the price cut was asked of Apple’s component suppliers that provide things like PCBs, optical hardware, battery modules, and touch panels. The news come from a Chinese language paper called Economic Daily News. Apple is expecting its shipments of com...

Apple nabs AirDrop trademark from Android app marketer
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Apple had to obtain the US "AirDrop" trademark for OS X Lion from an Android app marketer, according to Patently Apple. The latter party is Urban Airship, which continues to use the name for a service in which Android developers upload an app, receive redeem codes and distribute them to other people. The trademark was transferred on May 11th, and the change took effect June 9th.
OS X Lion was only fully unveiled on June 6th during Apple's WWDC 2011 keynote. The AirDrop feature lets users quickly share files with other nearby Macs, although they must be within a 30-foot radius. Lion is scheduled to ship sometime in July.

Apple's 'camera kill switch' patent enrages rights groups
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
We told you a few days ago about Apple's patent filing, in which a coded infrared transmission could disable your iPhone's camera. That could have a number of applications. Considering Apple's unique relationship with record companies, the primary use would be to prevent photos and video recordings of live concerts.
But the Save the Internet coalition has penned an open letter to Steve Jobs, discouraging the implementation of such a device. And they bring up some solid, albeit dramatic, points. Referring to the heavy use of cell phones in recent revolutions around the world, they point out that "This technology would also give tyrants the power to stem the flow of protest videos and crack do...

Samsung vs Apple might be coming to an end
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
Samsung and Apple have been going at it for quite some time now, making some pretty interesting legal claims that the other is stealing their technology, but rumor has it they might settle out of court. After Apple just settled a deal with Nokia to pay them for their technology being used in their iPhones, they might now be looking at another settlement with one of their business partners.
Samsung is one of Apple’s biggest parts suppliers, with over $5.7 billion-worth of products going to Apple, so a settlement might be best for both parties. Apple’s attorney recently suggested that executives “at the highest levels” on both sides are talking to settle this out of court. The attorney said th...

Apple could be cooking up black MacBook Air
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
It has been widely reported that Apple is planning to refresh its MacBook Air family later this month or early next month, and now there’s a new rumor that may make the wait even more worthwhile. According to MacRumors, the refreshed top-end MacBook Air model may also be available with a new anodized black aluminum finish — a color option that hasn’t been seen since Apple did away with the black MacBook. The image above is from Colorwave, which offers custom paint jobs for a variety of gadgets, but it’s a good idea of what such a product could look like barring the trackpad. Apple’s refresh is also expected to deliver support for the new Thunderbolt I/O port as well as Intel’s new Sandy Brid...
