If You Sold Your Apple Stock Today, You’re An Idiot
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Before I begin, two points:
1) I do not own any Apple stock. I have absolutely no interest in whether the stock goes up or down.
2) One can make an argument that there may be other reasons to sell Apple’s stock now (namely, uncertainty following the passing of Steve Jobs), I’m simply arguing that the stock’s collapse today due to yesterday’s earnings is laughable.
Watching the stock market following Apple’s Q4 earnings yesterday and into today, I’m reminded of a famous Steve Jobs quote. “If you see a stylus, they blew it.” Reworked, the quote today would be: “If you’re investing based on Apple analysts, you blew it.”
Apple’s stock dropped 23.62 points today — over 5.5 percent. It went from a...

Samsung's Galaxy Nexus reportedly built to avoid Apple patent lawsuits
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAppleGALAXY Nexus
Samsung specifically designed the Galaxy Nexus to avoid patent lawsuits from Apple, Samsung’s mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun told Yonhap News Agency Wednesday. “We will see if it will be 100 percent free” from patent infringement lawsuits, he explained, noting that the current ongoing patent war with Apple is in its fledgling stages. “I think it is just a start and [the battle] will last for a considerable time,” Shin explained. “I don’t think there is much gain. What we are losing is the pride in our brand. We will avoid everything we can and take patents very seriously.” Samsung originally said it had postponed its San Diego press conference, during which it was supposed to launch the Galaxy ...

Samsung-Apple met during Jobs' memorial to discuss doing more business together
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
During Wednesday's private memorial service on Apple's Cupertino campus, Apple CEO Tim Cook sat down with Samsung CEO and company heir Lee Jae-Yong for more than 2 hours according to the Korea Herald. Rumors of the meeting had made the rounds last week just when the legal battles between the two companies was reaching a fever pitch. Lee told reporters when he arrived back in Korea that despite the legal conflict, Samsung would honor the current contract that has Samsung selling parts to Apple until sometime next year. Yesterday, Samsung said that it would make the quad-core A6 processor for the Apple iPhone 5.
Yong said that Samsung and Apple discussed how the Korean based firm could supply ...

Adobe Reader finally arrives to iOS
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleiOS 5
Looking for a PDF reader on iOS? There’s plenty of options in the App Store, but for some reason up until now Adobe didn’t have an official application for reading PDF files. Now, that changes as Adobe Reader app makes its debut on the App Store with the unbeatable price tag of free.
The neat thing about Adobe Reader is that allows you to open documents from any app supporting that like mobile Safari or the Mail application, which is pretty convenient. It will also open password-protected documents as well as display annotations and drawing markups.
Except for that the interface is stripped down to a bare minimum, allowing you to concentrate on the reading experience, which is the focus of A...

The iPhone 5 was the last thing Steve Jobs was working on
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Earlier this month we were deeply saddened to report that Steve Jobs lost his battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 56. All the conversations around Android versus iOS versus Windows Phone seemed rather pointless in comparison to the death of a man who possessed such incredible vision. Now that it’s been over a week, it’s time to move on and talk tech again. There’s little doubt in anyone’s mind that Steve Jobs told his successor, Tim Cook, which direction Apple should steer themselves toward over the next few years. Apple’s roadmap until the end of 2013 is probably already set in stone, and after that who knows where the company will go, but what we really want to find out is wha...

Apple sells 17.1 million iPhones, 11.1 million iPads in Q4
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
In a relatively rare occurrence, it looks like Apple has underperformed analysts’ expectations with its fourth quarter results. Apple is still doing quite well with its $28.27 billion in revenue and quarterly net profit of $6.62 billion but its iPhone and iPad sales numbers weren’t as high as some predicted.
The company said it sold 17.07 iPhones in the quarter, which still represented a 21 percent increase year-over-year. Keep in mind that this figure did not include the more than four million units it sold in three days with the iPhone 4S. Analysts were expecting roughly 20 million units but it appears that demand may have tapered as some users waited for the iPhone 4S to be released but l...

Apple may be building 7.85-inch 'iPad mini'
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsApple
Apple may be working on a smaller “iPad mini” tablet with a 7.85-inch display, according to a new report from United Daily News in Taiwan. Reportedly, LG Display and AU Optronics will supply the parts for the device, which will have the same 1024 x 768-pixel resolution as the iPad 2. Apple may want to enter the lower-priced tablet market in an effort to steal market share away from Amazon’s Kindle Fire device, but at least one analyst has argued the device may not be smaller in size than the current iPad. Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White recently suggested that Apple might introduce an “iPad mini” priced in the “high to mid-$200 range” during the first few months of 2012, and the d...

Some iPhone 4S owners reporting screen quality issues
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Some iPhone 4S buyers are reporting problems with subpar screens, Apple's support forums indicate. When issues are present, the overriding complaint is of a yellow tint, especially notable when a 4 and 4S are compared side-by-side. People are also upset, however, at problems with poor contrast and/or washed-out colors.
The issue may mark the return of a problem that affected the iPhone 4 early into its lifecycle. At the time devices were being shipped so quickly after assembly that screens continued to show signs of a yellow adhesive. The residue would eventually disappear though, leaving behind normal phones.

iPhone 4S hits four million in sales after first weekend
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
How did you spend your weekend? If you're Apple, the answer is simple, really: selling a whole lot of iPhones. Cupertino this morning announced that iPhone 4S sales have reached four million -- quite an impressive number compared to what its predecessor was capable of, a fact no doubt helped by the addition of some carriers, like Verizon and Sprint here in the States. The handset is currently available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK, with plenty more countries coming by the end of the year. Press info can be found after the jump.

Production of Apple’s third-generation iPad is about to get underway according to Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro. According to Fidacaro, Apple’s manufacturing partners have orders to build as many as 1 million iPad 3 tablets in the fourth quarter of this year, in line with an earlier note from the analyst’s colleague at Susquehanna, Christopher Caso. “Our checks indicate that iPad 3 has now shown up on AAPL’s production forecast for a late-4Q production start,” Caso wrote in a recent research note. “We believe 0.6 mln-1 mln units are forecasted for 4Q production.” Last week, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White said that Apple will unveil a new entry-level “iPad m...

Samsung to supply A6 chip for iPhone 5, LG may supply screen
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungLGApple
It seems that regardless of the contentious legal battles being waged between Apple and Samsung around the world, Apple still sees Samsung as a "critical business partner". A report from the Korean Times says that Samsung will indeed supply the quad-core A6 chip which is expected to power both the iPad 3 and the iPhone 5. The same report also says LG is still likely to be the supplier of the iPhone 5 display.
Apple had been looking at TSMC as a possible supplier of the A6 chip, but that job looks to have fallen to Samsung. The report says that TSMC will still produce customized chips designed by Apple, but that it will be limited quantities. The A6 will instead be made by Samsung using its ...

ITC judge rules that Apple does not infringe on HTC patents
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleHTC
A judge with the United States International Trade Commission has ruled that Apple is not infringing on four of HTC’s patents related to phone dialing and battery power management, Reuters said Monday. HTC originally filed the lawsuit in May of last year when it sought a ban on the import of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The final ruling in the case will occur in February when the verdict of a full commission is revealed. Apple and HTC have been locked in a number of legal battles. Apple first sued HTC in March and a U.S. ITC judge found HTC guilty of infringing on two of Apple’s patents in July. HTC has said it will appeal that ruling.
