Several reports appeared today about the first Windows 8 Tablet. The Korean Economics Times reports that Samsung has partnered with Microsoft to make the first Windows 8 Tablet. The new Windows Tablet will be already unveiled at the Build developer conference next week (September 13-16). ThisIsMyNext reports that developers attending the conference might get one for free. This still does not confirm that Microsoft is actually ready to launch the Windows 8 Tablet this year. Windows 8 OS is supposed to launch late 2012. There have been rumors that Microsoft will release the tablet version earlier. It would be good for them, as they are really late in the game this time.

The Google Music service that launched back at Google I/O will now work on iOS devices, including both iPhones and iPads. The service has generated very little buzz since its inception and still remains in a private beta stage. However, the service had been rumored for months before its launch and is Google’s first major attempt to rival Amazon’s Cloud Player and Apple’s iTunes with iCloud.

Android 'Ice Cream Sandwich' Coming in October or November?

Last Friday, Google chairman Eric Schmidt slipped that Android 4.0, the next major overhaul to the mobile operating system, will be released in "October or November."
Speaking to Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff at the Dreamforce conference, Schmidt said, "We have a new operating system, internally known as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason, which is being released in October, November." HTC promised that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the DROID Incredible would be coming in September, and it looks like some users are seeing the update show up on their phones already. Microsoft Defends Windows 8 Explorer 'Ribbon'

Windows division president Steven Sinofsky on Friday defended his team's decision to select the "ribbon" mechanism for Windows 8 Explorer, and basically told detractors to deal with it.
"We chose the ribbon mechanism, and to those that find that a flawed choice, there isn't much we can do other than disagree," Sinofsky wrote in a blog post. "While there are a lot of opinions, the one thing we know is that the satisfaction with our products that use the ribbon is much higher and the usage much broader and deeper."

Dell Streak 7 on track to get Honeycomb upgrade

Erik Day, Dell's director of marketing for EMEA, has confirmed that the Dell Streak 7 will be getting an upgrade to Android 3.2 (Honeycomb).
Speaking to Thinq, Day demoed the softare on the 7-inch tablets at IFA 2011, but wasn't able to say when the Honeycomb update would come to existing Wi-Fi only Dell Streak 7s.
The Android 3.2 build of Honeycomb was intended to bring the tablet software to smaller than 10-inch slates, so it makes sense for Dell's 7-inch offering to be in line for the upgrade.

Acer was at IFA last weekend and one of the coolest products that the company showed off was the Ultrabook Aspire S3 that uses Intel’s new ultra mobile platform to combine portability with performance. There have been rumors swirling for a while that Acer would be offering machines using ARM processors as well to help it be able to produce cheaper notebooks. An ARM processor combined with a lower cost OS would make for an interesting computer indeed.

Yesterday, the mobile version of the YouTube webpage mysteriously disappeared for Windows Phone users, but the confusion didn’t last long and Google is back, and it seems the daily absence has yielded only good results as when you access the webpage now it shows a refreshed and cleaner user interface. Why should you care for it? Well, the YouTube app in Windows Phone is nothing but a redirect to the mobile version of the website and when you tap on a video you are taken to the media player.

The Android Update Alliance (AUA) was set up back in May to unite phone makers under the umbrella of timely Android updates, but we haven’t heard a word about the idealistic venture since then.

When you look at the combined 70 percent smartphone market share of Android and Apple in the U.S. compared to Microsoft’s measly and shrinking 6 percent, it seems like it’s game over before it really began for Windows Phone. Windows Phone is a decent mobile OS, even promising, but so far it has failed to capture the hearts and minds of developers or consumers. Can Microsoft do anything to change that and will it involve tying Windows Phone more tightly to its next desktop operating system, Windows 8?

Mango update coming from carriers in 2-3 weeks?

If this screen shot of a conversation with an O2 rep can be believed, the roll-out of the Mango update for Windows Phone 7 may start sooner than we expect.
While we know at the moment that Mango the OS itself is ready, and we have heard from HTC that their customization itself is ready also, we all expect that carriers will be the big stumbling block, delaying the release by months. If the screen shot above is any indication, Microsoft may have finally gotten the carrier’s ducks in a row and may start and finish the roll-out pretty rapidly.

It was only a couple of days ago that a RUU (ROM update utility) leaked online that contained an early build of Android Honeycomb to the HTC Flyer, but now the guys over at XDA have turned that RUU into a flashable ROM.
The screenshots show what Honeycomb looks on the HTC Flyer with the Sense user interface. It is very similar looking to the HTC Jetstream currently available on AT&T. At the moment, this ROM is not quite ready to get pushed out to Flyer owners everywhere. However, it is nice to see that it is possible in the future.

Google talk comes to Windows Phone Mango via GChat app

Thanks to a developer by the name of Luis Hector Chavez, there is now a Google talk application available in the Windows Phone Marketplace by the name of GChat.
GChat was developed for Windows Phone Mango. Just like the standard text messaging feature, the GChat application will send push notifications to your handset. You can take any of your contacts from GChat and pin them in a tile of their own directly on the home screen. You can also have what is called off-the-record conversations that have special and delicate handling.
