A Chinese web site is showing leaked photographs of the Huawei MediaPad running Android 4.0.1. While no definitive word has come out of Huawei yet, it certainly does indicate that the manufacturer plans on updating the tablet to Ice Cream Sandwich from the Android 3.2 build of the OS that was installed for the launch of the device. After the update, the tablet will have the ability to make voice calls and one of the leaked spyshots shows the dialer on the tablet.

Following the footsteps of Samsung and Sony, LG has come forth with details on which devices will be getting Android 4.0 -- also known as Ice Cream Sandwich -- and when we can begin expecting those upgrades to roll out. The phone manufacturer made its official announcement via its Facebook page, stating that several of its 2011 models will be on the receiving end of ICS starting in the second and third quarters of next year, with a full-scale rollout occurring sometime afterward.

The Dell Streak 5, Dell's original smartphone/tablet hybrid, may be discontinued, but the company is doing good to support its customers, as it has just released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the 5-inch devices. We will excuse the tardiness of the update since the Streak 5 is dead product. The update offers version 1.5.1 of Dell's Stage UI interface and version 2.27 of the Swype keyboard. Cloud-storage provider Dropbox has recently made the headlines by offering 5GB of free space on HTC-made Android devices, and now the company is bringing a completely overhauled version of its Android app and it looks sleeker than ever. Dropbox version 2.0 arrives with a new layout and functionality allowing you to favorite files, access files offline, bulk upload, renaming files and imports and exports from your local storage.
The new version also supports Ice Cream Sandwich - it’s optimized for the newest Android. The way you access things is now logical - all file and folder actions are accessed with a single tap.

Just recently, Samsung updated us on its Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update schedule and which devices are getting it and to our great disappointment the Samsung Galaxy S and the 7-inch original Galaxy Tab are not in there. The latest models of the company are, of course, getting the update: the Samsung Galaxy S II, S II LTE, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. But that’s little consolation for those owning Samsung’s 2010 flagship or Samsung’s first tablet.

Remember when the Dell Streak 5 brought big in a literally big way – with its still perceived to be monstrous sized 5” display? Yes, it has been long discontinued in the US, but nevertheless, it’s getting one snazzy update that no doubt brings some surprise.
Specifically, the official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original Streak is now available and ready for the taking, thanks to the team over at xda-developers. With the sizable 155MB update, users are required though to have version 350 of the stock recovery installed on the device prior to installation. Dropbox previews Android app for Ice Cream Sandwich

Dropbox has announced that it is set to release an updated version of its Android app, which brings a range of optimizations for Google's latest Ice Cream Sandwich builds. The interface has received a number of tweaks, including an improved gallery view, single-tap acces to file and folder actions, and separate tabs for 'Dropbox', 'Uploads' and 'Favorites'.
The cloud storage provider has enhanced the overall functionality, enabling users to access offline files, upload photos and videos in bulk, and upload from or export to local storage. The release also brings unnamed bug fixes and provides new options for renaming files and folders.

HTC loses to Apple, several Android phones banned in the U.S.

The U.S. International Trade Commission finally issued its decision on a patent dispute between Apple and HTC. The determination states that several of the manufacturer's Android-based handsets will be banned from sale and import in the United States on April 12, 2012. HTC says not to worry though -- they have a plan.
HTC dodged the bullet for 8 of the 10 patent accusations made in April, but those last two were still good enough to land an injunction from the ITC. The determination blocks several of HTC's Android-based devices from import and outright bans the sale of those devices in the U.S. It is currently unknown what exact phones are subject to the injunction.

Sony Ericsson has detailed its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade plans, with the roll-out of Android 4.0 expected to hit the XPERIA arc S, XPERIA neo V and XPERIA ray first, from the end of March or the beginning of April 2012. Firefox for Android has been updated to version 9.0 which brings a number of improvements to the browser, not least of which is a redesign for Honeycomb Android tablets. Mozilla has announced the arrival of its latest version of Firefox 9, which is optimised for Android tablets.
It's been a good week for Mozilla with the non-profit browser creator renewing its search deal with Google and cementing its future, which means that it can now focus on the bread and butter of its business and get new versions of its browser out.
The Android version of Firefox 9 has a number of new features. These include a new action bar, a veritable banquet of button shortcuts and browser load times have been made that little bit quicker. There's also more HTML5 love than ever before.

App Store generates 6 times more profit than Android Market

We all knew the App Store was the most profitable app catalog out there, but recent findings from Distimo show just how shockingly more cash it yields for developers. The top 200 apps in the App Store generate 6 times the profits of those in the Android Market. This makes it obvious why most programmers focus on iOS first and Android is usually only second-best.
The stats were all published by Distimo reporting about the January to November state of the application markets. Other interesting findings include the fact that Microsoft’s Windows Marketplace has outgrown the Nokia Ovi Store and the RIM BlackBerry App Worlds.
