Is uTorrent Coming to Android?

There are plenty of things iOS can do that Android can't—Siri and Facetime, for example. However, Android may soon be getting its own exclusive feature: P2P file sharing courtesy of uTorrent, the most-used torrent client in the Western World.
BitTorrent, the parent company of uTorrent, is reportedly developing a mobile P2P file sharing client for the Android platform. Such an app would allow uTorrent's 140 million users to trade files over any wireless connection without the need for a desktop or laptop intermediary. "Like any software company, we know a mobile experience is really important to our users," a BitTorrent spokesperson told TorrentFreak.

Google Is Building a "Firewall" Between Android and Motorola

When Google announced it was to acquire Motorola, it was obvious it wanted patents but unclear how Android and Motorola would interact in the future. According to Andy Rubin, who heads up Android, there's going to be zero communication.
Speaking to The Verge at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Rubin explained that, when it comes to the acquisition, he has "nothing to do with it.... I don't even know who's running it." Broadcom unveils Android 4.0 optimized chips for 'affordable' smartphones

Google now activates 850,000 Android devices every day

Google's vice president of mobile, Andy Rubin, has just revealed that the company is activating over 850,000 Android smartphones and tablets every day. This is a jump up from the 700,000 per day figure that was announced late last year and shows that the Android ecosystem is continuing to grow at an aggressive rate.

Microsoft has just announced that Skype for Windows Phone has finally landed on the Marketplace in its beta form, and it offers video calling, instant messaging and most other functions you’d expect. It is also making full use of the simplicity and cleanness of the Metro UI.

256 MB Windows Phones will be able to run 95% of current Marketplace apps

Microsoft has released some more information about their new low-cost platform.
The update will support new Qualcomm 7x27a “system on a chip” chipsets and only 256 MB memory by using a new paging system which will allow apps to address more memory that physically present on the device.
Microsoft says in their tests 95% of Marketplace apps will run on these handsets, and Microsoft is working with the remaining 5% to make their apps compatible.
In the mean time however these incompatible apps will be flagged in Marketplace so users do not download them unwittingly.
The first two devices running the update will be the Nokia Lumia 610 and the ZTE Orbit. Both handsets will be available in Q2 2012...

ZTE Announced New Windows Phone Device Called Orbit

ZTE announced a new low cost Windows Phone called Orbit at MWC. This new device will feature the new Tango specs with 256MB RAM and will compete with Lumia 610 in China.
The handset will come with 4 GB of internal storage and a 5 megapixel camera with LED Flash, according to WinphoneXAP. It will also be HD Voice enabled.
The device will be on sale in Q2 this year.

Windows Phone Tango MMS updates demoed, will come to all Windows Phones in Q2

Microsoft’s Greg Sullivan demonstrated the rumoured improvements in the MMS functionality in Windows Phone Tango to Laptop Magazine.
The video demoes attaching multiple pictures and also voice notes, and besides the MMS updates, better memory management, wider processor support and Chinese CDMA support, Greg also noted that the update included under the hood changes such as security updates, with the Verge noting today that the SMS of Death issue has been fixed in the new software.
Greg also said while the Nokia Lumia 610 will be shipping with the OS update in place, current Windows Phones will get the update after the new low-end devices shipped (which is expected in Q2 2012).

Nokia N9 users, if you've yet to activate your beloved device today, then do so post-haste. It looks like our army of faithful tipsters found PR 1.2 ready to roll this morning. The 284MB update should be available worldwide, although a few users in Saudi Arabia are yet to see any goodies. Acer Liquid Glow to help define budget Android 4.0

Acer has followed up the CloudMobile with a second smartphone due at Mobile World Congress. The Liquid Glow will carry Acer's lightly skinned version of Android 4.0, but with a more modest 3.7-inch display. The newer, curvier design will be its own highlight, with colors such as Alpine White and Sakura Pink on the back that will be matched to the display at the front.
A five-megapixel camera with a flash is standard, and NFC is new to Acer's Liquid line. The short-range wireless here is useful for Android Beam device-to-device sharing with other Android 4.0 owners as well as the usual tag reading and mobile payments. Nokia is the largest Windows Phone maker in the world, after one quarter

Strategy Analytics reports that the Finnish smartphone maker now sits atop the global charts for the Microsoft mobile OS after being in the game for just one quarter. Nokia overtook HTC and Samsung to claim a 33% market share with 0.9 million out of the 2.7 million units shipped in Q4.
