Microsoft may have scored a victory against Motorola’s Android phones in the US, but Moto has just landed its own heavy blow. A judge has recommended that the Xbox 360 should be banned in the United States following the discovery that Microsoft has infringed on four of Motorola’s patents relating to H.264 and the use of wireless tech in controllers. Microsoft was found to infringe the patents last month, but the recommendation for the sales ban was issued on Monday.

Microsoft Xbox 720 launch rumor: Report points to November 2013 debut
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesMicrosoftXBOX One
Microsoft plans to launch its next-generation Xbox video game and home entertainment console ahead of the holidays next year, according to a recent report. The Los Angeles Times on Monday published a developer contract between Acitivision Blizzard and famed Halo developers Bungie. The firms are currently working on a new Massively Multiplayer Online franchise called Destiny, which will be a first-person shooter with a science fiction theme. While the fact that the companies currently have four titles planned for the series is exciting for gamers in itself, another tidbit may be even more titillating; the contract suggests that the first Destiny title will launch ahead of the holidays next ye...

Sony promises big PSP, mini onslaught for PlayStation Vita
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesSonyPSVITA
One of the things that die-hard PlayStation fans have been disappointed about when it comes to the PlayStation Vita is the lack of downloadable PSP games that have not been made available for the Vita. One of the selling points of the new system was that people who downloaded PSP games for their previous game platform would be able to re-download them on the Vita.

Xbox 360 set for Kinect controlled Internet Explorer browsing
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesMicrosoftXBOX 360
Xbox 360 users will soon be able to surf the web using Kinect gesture controls as Microsoft works on a modified version of Internet Explorer 9.
Currently the Xbox 360’s browsing credentials is restricted to media results via Bing voice search. However, Microsoft is updating its IE browser to enable web surfing direct from the console for the first time.
Kinect gesture controls are also being implemented by Microsoft, meaning users will be able to navigate the web with hand movements as well as their voice. It all sounds very Minority Report.

Microsoft's next-generation Xbox 720 may already be in production
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesMicrosoftXBOX One
A Texas electronics company has allegedly begun production on Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox gaming console, according to a report from IGN. Production of the Xbox 720 is reportedly underway at the Austin, Texas branch of Flextronics, the same electronics company responsible for manufacturing the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox. Despite these reports, however, Microsoft firmly stated that the next-generation Xbox will not debut at this year’s E3 gaming convention. The hardware currently being manufactured may instead be development kits for top-tier game developers that will get early access to Microsoft’s next-generation hardware in order to prepare new titles. The “Xbox 720″ is rumored to...

Rumor claims Wii U has Android built-in
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesOperating SystemsNintendoGoogleAndroidWii U
It is starting to feel like whenever a device or company is losing steam, there's one surefire way to at least get it some buzz: claim that Android is going to be added in. We've seen it time and again. There have been multiple rumors that RIM would be either switching to Android, making its apps available for Android, or simply selling to the largest Android manufacturer. There have been rumors that Sony might adopt Android for its PlayStation products. And now, it has been rumored that the next Nintendo console, the Wii U, will have Android built-in.
We just heard about how Nintendo thinks that the iPhone killed portable game consoles (although we're not sure if Nintendo needs to "think" ...

Wii U crucial as Nintendo posts first loss in 30 years
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesNintendoWii U
Mario-maker Nintendo has posted its first financial loss in thirty years as Wii sales founder and smartphones boom.
The company lost 43.2 billion yen over the course of the last financial year (about $533m, £329m), but it had expected to lose 65 billion yen so it's not all bad.
Why the financial gloom? Well, Wii sales are dropping as the console ages, the Nintendo 3DS is selling at a loss to entice users in, big-title game releases have been few and far between - and the strength of the Japanese yen hasn't helped matters either.

Report: Microsoft revealing Xbox 'Woodstock' music service at E3

We are stardust. We are golden. And we've got to get ourselves back to the Xbox. According to some anonymous-type sources over at The Verge, Microsoft is set to continue its shift away from Zuneland into the world of Woodstock -- that's reportedly the codename of a new Spotify-like service set to make its debut at this year's E3. According to the reports, the tiny yellow bird of a service will work across platforms (think Windows 8, iOS, Android and, of course, the Xbox, amongst others), thanks, at least in part, to browser-based functionality. The service is said to be set to launch later in the year, around the same as some key MS operating systems.

Skype launches on PS Vita, can do video calls in the middle of gaming sessions (video)
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesSonyPSVITA
Skype continues to spread itself to anything with a data connection, and while while we don't expect this to be the last gaming device it'll appear on, it's the second. Yes, the Microsoft-owned Skype will be available to download for free on the Sony-made PlayStation Vita later today and it's capable of video calls from the get-go -- although we're yet to test whether that's possible on a 3G signal. Embarrassingly, the app looks far more capable than its recent gone-gold compadre on Microsoft's very own mobile platform. While the Windows Phone version is unable to tick along in the background, the Vita (with all that top-end processing power) can still keep your account online while you're r...

Microsoft Xbox 360 found to infringe Motorola patents in preliminary ITC ruling
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesMicrosoftMotorolaXBOX 360Xbox 360 EliteXbox 360 S
A judge at the US International Trade Commission has just ruled that Microsoft's Xbox 360 infringes four of Motorola's patents. The ruling isn't unexpected, since many of the patent cover H.264 video encoding, which is a standard — the ITC wasn't persuaded by Microsoft's argument that Motorola will "kill video on the web" by failing its obligation to license the patents under fair and reasonable terms. In a statement, Microsoft said it "remains confident the Commission will ultimately rule in Microsoft's favor in this case and that Motorola will be held to its promise to make its standard essential patents available on fair and reasonable terms."

GameStop begins selling PS3 for $199
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesSonyPlayStation 3
Although Sony hasn’t officially cut the price of the PS3 since last fall, GameStop has taken it upon itself to slash the cost of the system to the magic sub-$200 mark. The retailer now lists the 160 GB version of the Sony console as being available for $199.99. That is $50 less than Sony’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $249.99. The cheapest place in the country to buy a new PS3 right now is GameStop.
