Motorola's XT531 hits the FCC, ready for its US crossover
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaXT531
Motorola's XT531 has gone through more name changes than a certain rapper-cum-vodka shilling mogul, and the trend might continue as it makes its way to the US. The budget-friendly handset, known as the Fire XT in Europe and the Spice XT in Latin America, has just surfaced at the FCC toting AT&T-compatible GSM bands, UMTS / HSDPA 850MHz / 1900MHz support, WiFi and Bluetooth. Based on Moto's official PR for the handset's Chinese release, we know this 3.5-incher also sports a front-facing VGA / 5 megapixel rear camera, and is set to launch with Android 2.3 onboard. With Google's newest pal clearly chasing after heat-related naming conventions, we expect to see this one launch with an equally ca...

Apple has been accused for the second time of manipulating images presented as part of its patent infringement suit against Samsung, this time for resizing shots of the Galaxy S so that they more closely resemble the iPhone 3G. HTC EVO 3D bootloader unlock tool now available from HTC
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCEVO 3D
It's been just a few short days since HTC made the bootloader unlock tool available for European versions of its Sensation smartphone, but now owners of the EVO 3D on Sprint can join the party as well. The unlocking tool for the EVO 3D has been made available on HTC's developer website. It requires that users download the latest over-the-air software update for their phones, and it will, of course, void any and all warranties. Cue the custom ROM explosion for the EVO 3D in 3..2..1..

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesGoogleGALAXY Nexus
Google’s third-generation “Nexus Prime” smartphone — which will likely be the first Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” phone to hit the market — will launch in October according to a new report from Korean-language Electronic Times. BGR exclusively reported preliminary details surrounding Google’s next Nexus smartphone codenamed Nexus Prime in mid-June, and we followed up with more exclusive details later that month. This new report from Electronic Times reaffirms several specs we had reported earlier, such as the device’s 720p Super AMOLED HD display, and it narrows our fall release time frame to October. The report also claims that the Prime will be powered by a 1.5GHz processor, jibing with...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleVerizon WirelessiPhone 4
Verizon Wireless’ share of the U.S. Android market was down again in August, sinking to its lowest point since the carrier’s launch of the iPhone 4 this past March. The nation’s top carrier played a large role in popularizing Google’s mobile OS thanks to a massive $100 million marketing campaign focused on the Motorola DROID, but Apple’s smartphone has shifted demand among its subscribers. According to market research firm Chitka Insights, Verizon Wireless’ share of the Android smartphone market in the U.S. stood at 51.42% in March, the month after Apple’s CDMA iPhone 4 finally launched.

Motorola DROID Bionic appears in Best Buy Buyer's Guide, still no price or launch date
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaDROID BIONIC
Like sands through an hourglass, these are the slow moving 'Days before the Motorola DROID Bionic launch'. It's not like we are not seeing more and more confirmation of the specs, such as the 4.3 inch qHD display, or the 1GHz dual-core processor or the 8MP camera on back that captures video at 1080p. It's just that time seems to be moving slowly when it comes to the DROID Bionic. And while the latest leak shows the phone in Best Buy's latest circular, there is still no mention of a launch date or price.

Today HP revealed that they would be announcing that it will completely discontinue operations for all webOS devices. This affects the HP TouchPad and all webOS handsets. This does not mean that webOS will be cancelled altogether and forever, though it certainly doesn’t bode well for those who’ve invested in the HP/webOS combination in the meantime. This comes after less than stellar sales on the TouchPad and a request from Best Buy for HP to take back all their tablets.
