HP Pre3 Makes Stealthy Entrance Into The European Market, U.S. To Follow

The HP Pre3 launched in Europe today, and oddly enough, HP had very little to say about it. With the TouchPad price falling like a rock, you’d expect that its intended complementary device — and HP’s flagship phone — would launch with more fanfare. But instead HP let the device land in its EuroStore and gave a short response to PreCentral, the first publication to notice its availability. Either way, the most important thing is that the carrier-free smartphone is ready to roll.

The Black Screen of Death is afflicting some HTC EVO 3D users

Posted on Aug 18, 2011 by MG3

While the XBox 360 has the "Red Ring of Death" that appears when a unit has bought the farm, it appears that some HTC EVO 3D units have the "Black Screen of Death" that shuts down the phone for good. All of the usual attempts of resuscitation fail as the battery pull, the wall toss and the extra decibel scream shock fail to revive the smartphone, which continues to show nothing more than a black screen after each attempt.

Like the Google Catalogs app yesterday, Photovine seems to only be available on the iOS App Store—what's with that, Google? No love for us Android users? It's a free download, and yes, your photos can be posted to Twitter and Facebook for maximum piss-yer-friends-off functionality.

Motorola's new Droid HD makes cameo alongside Droid Bionic

Posted on Aug 17, 2011 by MG15

We've just received a fascinating set of photos from a sharp-eyed tipster, who sent along images of what appear to be Motorola's Droid Bionic and, most alluringly, that rumored handset known as the Droid HD (pictured above). This isn't the first time we've seen leaked images of the Bionic in the wild, but these shots are certainly a lot clearer than any others we've come across. Still, there aren't too many surprises here, with the global-capable handset boasting a TI OMAP 4430 1GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4.5-inch display, an 8 megapixel rear camera, and microUSB / HDMI ports.

The real intrigue, however, lies with the Droid HD. Judging from the photos, this device seems to be running Gi...

More behind the scenes Apple shuffling today, with good news and bad about two of the most anticipated iOS devices on the horizon. The iPhone 5 could well be on track for a September 12 launch, Engadget‘s tipster informs them, after word that carrier Telefonica will begin scaling back its current iPhone stock in time for that date so as to “prepare us for the launch of a new smart phone.” However, Apple’s supposed plans for an iPad 3 release in the second half of 2011 have reportedly been axed over high-res screen shortages.

HP's Pre 3 goes up for pre-order in Germany, shipping in '1 bis 2 Wochen'

Remember the Pre 3? The portrait slider HP promised it'd be hawking to webOS fans by the end of summer? Well it might barely make its launch window, but only if you live in the land of the autobahn. Currently live on the Deutsches wing of HP's online store is a pre-order page for the elusive smartphone which'll apparently ship in "one to two weeks." The localized variant is unlocked and comes with a QWERTZ (yes, Z) keyboard instead of the QWERTY we're used to. And, at 349€ (or around $500), the handset is considerably cheaper than when when we first spied it on Amazon.de in May. Taking the plunge? Feel free to send one our way, preferably with bratwurst and rösti in tow, danke.
