New Windows Phone 7 handsets are possibly being unveiled at HTC's event as well?

Posted on Aug 23, 2011 by MG15

All eyes will surely be placed on HTC just one day before IFA is expected to commence over in Germany, and of course, the big name speculated to arrive at HTC’s various events being held on September 1st throughout Europe is none other than the HTC Puccini. However, we may very well see some new Windows Phone 7 handsets from them as well.

In fact, it’s becoming increasingly obvious since fall signals the release of Mango to the masses – and what better way to flaunt it with brand spanking new devices? Taking a peek over at the Windows Phone UK Facebook page, their post regarding the September 1st London event significantly indicates that Windows Phone 7’s presence will be there. As much as ...

Nokia N8 camera update arrives with continuous auto focus, 30 fps video

The wait is over. Our friends at Nokia Beta Labs have just released an update to the N8’s native camera application. The update, available free at the Beta Labs website, adds support for continuous auto focus and 30fps video recording. First a Symbian Anna update and now a camera update? Not a bad month for the Symbian flagship if you ask us.

It’s no secret the Nokia N8 has an incredible camera. Up until today its video capabilities trailed behind the still photography. Taking the video recording speed from 15fps to 30fps opens the door to capturing fast-action video clips. Combined with continuous auto focus, the N8 not only replaces your point and shoot camera, it also replaces an entry-l...

Nokia E7 gets its price slashed down to $406 on Amazon

When it was first made available on the US market, the Nokia E7 retailed for the whopping $680 on the company's online store. Sure, it was among the best handsets that Nokia could offer at the time, but its rather steep price probably made many who wanted to get one put their credit cards back in their pockets. If back then you also found the smartphone to your liking, but passed on it just because of the pile of cash you had to drop, Amazon is now giving you an opportunity to grab an E7 at a more reasonable price.

More evidence Apple is testing 4G LTE iPhone and iPad emerges

More evidence Apple is testing 4G LTE iPhone and iPad emerges

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

New evidence has emerged that further confirms Apple’s ongoing tests of an LTE-enabled iPhone and iPad. BGR exclusively reported last week that multiple Apple carrier partners are currently testing iPhone models equipped with LTE radios. Our source also supplied a PLIST file containing evidence of the LTE-enabled iPhone. Now, MacRumors has discovered this LTE.plist file in iOS 5 developer builds for both the GSM iPhone 4 and the CDMA iPad 2. While the discovery of these files does not necessarily indicate that Apple plans to release 4G LTE-compatible devices in the near future, it does reaffirm that ongoing tests are being conducted with the new high-speed wireless technology.

iPhone 3GS free on Monday at Best Buy

iPhone 3GS free on Monday at Best Buy

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Best Buy gave the iPhone 3GS an informal sendoff Monday with a special one-day promo. Those who buy the phone in-store on August 22 only can get it for free when paired up with a two-year AT&T contract. Its deal makes it the cheapest route to an iPhone 3GS, cutting under a $9 refurb deal.

Apple is widely presumed to be phasing out the iPhone 3GS entirely when it introduces the iPhone 5. Some signs have already emerged that the iPhone 4 will be the new entry model. Canadian provider Koodo started supporting Apple this spring by only carrying the iPhone 4, hinting that Apple wanted to cut down on iPhone 3GS production.

HTC Evo 3D gets 6 Sept UK release date

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

The HTC Evo 3D is alive and kicking in the UK and coming to our shores in less than three weeks.

The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy have announced pre-order is now online for the dimensionally-advanced handset and confirmed an HTC Evo 3D UK release date of 6 September.

However, it's not going to be cheap - the Evo 3D will set you back £36 per month on a (likely) two year deal - far more than the HTC Sensation, which comes in at £30 per calendar unit.

Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman wants you to boogie

Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman wants you to boogie

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Sony Ericsson has brought back the Walkman range, this time with Android, in the guise of a new smartphone called the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman - catchy we know.

The Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman phone will be an Android 2.3 smartphone and will show off its music credentials with Sony's xLoud audio system, already available on other Xperia models. xLoud enhances audio output on the device, whilst dedicated music and "Infinite" buttons should mean access to the music player is nice and easy. It will also offer Qriocity music and video services from Sony, unsurprisingly.

Skype has just announced that they have purchased the company GroupMe, the creators behind a group messaging application of the same name that is currently available on many smartphone platforms.

The purchase will give Skype direct access to the group messaging software produced by GroupMe. Skype has been recently been purchased by Microsoft and this latest acquistion could allow for even deeper Skype integration on Windows devices in the future.

GroupMe is currently offered on iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone devices. Because this application can be used cross-platform, it is different than similar apps such as BlackBerry Messenger.

Samsung promises big announcement on September 1st

Samsung promises big announcement on September 1st

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Samsung has released two teaser videos that promise “something big” is coming during the IFA trade show in Berlin, which kicks off on September 1st. The videos are vague: one shows scenes by an ocean and the second has a number of people walking around with glowing objects in their hands. It is possible the clips are hinting at Samsung’s rumored Android Honeycomb Galaxy Tab device, which packs a 7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution, a 3-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel camera for video chats. Samsung unveiled the original 7-inch Galaxy Tab last year, so it’s entirely possible that an update will be announced on September 1st. But, some of the users are also holding...

Mobiado shows us what a $4,000 Nexus S looks like

Mobiado shows us what a $4,000 Nexus S looks like

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

The Nexus S is a beautiful smartphone, without question. The curved glass face… the contoured body… we’re big fans of Google’s second self-branded phone here at BGR. As has been the case with several Samsung-built smartphones in the past though, the plastics on the device feel a bit, well, cheap. Lucky for Android fans — and unlucky for their wallets — high-end phone maker Mobiado has struck a deal to refinish Google’s second-generation smartphone with its own familiar flair. Mobiado has released two versions of its rebuilt Nexus smartphone: the Grand Touch, machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and then anodized in one of six colors, and the Grand Touch GCB, machined from solid brass and th...

Microsoft: Windows Phone Mango Is Done, Manufacturers Just Need To Release It

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Well, this is something new. Here in the tech world, we hear about delay after delay — but very rarely does a company step out and say: “Hey! We’re ahead of schedule!”

Today, Microsoft was that company, and the product was Windows Phone 7 Mango.

Peter Wissinger, Microsoft’s director of Mobile Business in the Nordic countries, today released an official statement on Mango’s status:
“Now it’s up to our manufacturing partners to release Mango to our customers. Microsoft has delivered complete Mango earlier than planned to the manufacturers. Feels good now.”

BlackBerry App World 3.0 set to debut on August 22nd

BlackBerry App World 3.0 set to debut on August 22nd

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Now that RIM has released a trio of new, higher-spec'd phones that are gaining acceptance by BlackBerry fans and those using other platforms, it is time for the Canadian based manufacturer to update BlackBerry App World. Sure enough, App World 3.0 is coming August 22nd according to a message sent out by RIM and obtained by N4BB. Some BlackBerry users have been able to use App World 3.0 through the beta zone since August 5th, but for others, it will seem fresh and new.

Right off the bat, the UI is going to be different with rotating banners on the home page. BlackBerry users will be able to store all of their apps digitally in a file called "My World" which allows them to move apps wirelessl...

HTC Releases Evo 3D Bootloader Unlock Tool

HTC Releases Evo 3D Bootloader Unlock Tool

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

It’s only been a few days since HTC got its bootloader unlock tool up and running, but unfortunately it was only made available to owners of the European/international version of the HTC Sensation. Obviously that didn’t do a lot to help our American hackers get what they want. But today, HTC threw some love our way making the bootloader unlock tool available to owners of the HTC Evo 3D, according to HTC’s Facebook page.

If you’re interested in a little Evo customization, head on over to HTC Dev for instructions. You’ll have to download the next update, which will come over the air. And just in case you’re a noob, it’s only fair that I warn you: unlocking the bootloader on your phone voids a...

HTC EVO 3D and Motorola PHOTON 4G $99 at Amazon with free activation until tomorrow

HTC EVO 3D and Motorola PHOTON 4G $99 at Amazon with free activation until tomorrow

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Two of the best Android handsets money can currently buy in the US - the HTC EVO 3D and the Motorola PHOTON 4G - got lowered to $99 on Amazon for new contracts.

What's more, until midnight today, your activation fee for Sprint is waived as well, which makes the deal $36 sweeter.

We can't argue with the phrase that good things come to those who wait, but in this case you might have to wait for the holiday season for these two handsets to become free on contract, so if you have been eying one of them, now might be the time to pull the trigger.
