Samsung Galaxy S III resolution may have been leaked
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S III
A leaked User Agent Profile (UAProf) is one of the least reliable sources of accurate information about an upcoming mobile device. For example, the leaked UAProf for the Galaxy Nexus claimed that it had a WVGA (480x800) screen, which was obviously quite untrue. That said, the new UAProf leak for the Samsung Galaxy S III looks a bit more realistic, although not 100% believable.
The leaked document lists the screen resolution of the Galaxy S III as 1024x600. On first glance, that seems like a resolution high enough to be real, and the 16:9 aspect ratio is very interesting as well. A true 16:9 ratio on the screen would likely make for a slightly more elongated form factor than what we normally...

Samsung Stratosphere getting BOGO'd at Verizon with new $99 contract price
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungStratosphere
Remember the Samsung Stratosphere? The model was Verizon's first 4G LTE enabled model to pack a side-sliding physical QWERTY. Recently priced at $149.99 with a 2-year contract, the gang at Big Red have chopped $50 off the price of the phone to a more affordable $99.99 with that signed 2-year pact. And that is not all. The Samsung Stratosphere is now the subject of a BOGO promotion which means that you will receive two Stratospheres for the price of one.
See if this refreshes your memory. The Samsung Stratosphere is equipped with a 4 inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 233. Under the hood is a single-core 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM aboard. 4GB of native memory is inclu...

32GB GSM Galaxy Nexus canceled, Google hopes you really like streaming
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
This probably won't matter too much to our American readers, but the 32GB version of the GSM Galaxy Nexus has been canceled according to Expansys and Negri Electronics. Initially the latest Nexus device was supposed to be sold in both 32 and 16 gigabyte varieties. But, for whatever reason, the larger capacity model never made it to market. Now, word is that it may never happen. A couple of importers are saying they've been notified by Samsung that handset has been discontinued, which is particularly bad news since the Gnex (as the cool kids are calling it) doesn't have a microSD slot. We hope you like streaming all your media.

An Even Bigger (!) Galaxy Note Is Coming
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Note
Remember yesterday, when you thought the 5.4-inch screen-having Samsung Galaxy Note was gigantic? It's tiny. TINY, I say! Why? Because rumor has it that Samsung is preparing to unleash the Galaxy Note 10.1 at MWC. Yes, that's almost twice as big.
SlashGear spotted this little oopsie on Samsung's official blog. In the company's Guide to Samsung Developer Day, developers are invited to experience the Wave 3, the Wave Y, the Galaxy Note, and the Galaxy Note 10.1. The last of which, of course, doesn't officially exist—yet. While Samsung realized its error and has removed the page, this image still exists for posterity.

Samsung intros trifecta of Galaxy Duos in India, new Ace included
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy Ace
Sammy isn't taking its foot off the handset-making accelerator anytime soon. The company announced it's bringing three of its galactic machines along for an Indian ride, and while we'd previously met the dual-SIM packin' pair, the Galaxy Ace Duos is seeing life for the first time in its double-threat form. Sporting the same 832MHz CPU as its siblings, as well as a 3.5-inch display, 1650mAh battery and GSM / CDMA capabilities, the newcomer isn't much more powerful, but at least offers more screen real estate and an extra pinch of juice to get you through the day. All members of the family are rockin' Gingerbread and will start off at around $212 for the Y Duos and its Pro variant. As for the ...

Just how large is the Samsung Galaxy Note for AT&T?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAT&TGALAXY Note
We just got our hands on the review version of the Samsung Galaxy Note for AT&T (check out our first impressions here) and there’s no doubt that this is a large phone. It’s tough to convey how large it is though, so we wanted to offer a few comparisons to popular devices to help your get your mind around what it means to have a 5.3-inch screen in your pocket.
First up is the iPhone – in this case, a Verizon iPhone 4 – and the 3.5-inch display that many of you either own or know the rough size of. The iPhone has a much smaller overall footprint than the Note but it’s roughly the same thickness, which is a credit to Samsung’s design. I found Apple’s iPhone to be much easier to use with one han...

Samsung Galaxy S III concept makes us wish it is the real deal
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S III
Anything goes in concept renders, but some of them hit the sweet spot between a wacky dream device and the a plausible but boring reality. The homebrew concept by NAK Studio of the hotly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III below is just relaying what many customers of Samsung's otherwise stellar flagship phones want - a more sophisticated outer shell design.
Nothing wrong with plastic - it is durable, lightweight, and allows for better signal penetration, but introducing some metal in the chassis will give the Galaxy S III a more premium feeling without a doubt.
The concept render artist, who is not affiliated with Samsung in any way, stays otherwise very true to the slim Galaxy S II, with the ...

Ice Cream Sandwich may hit Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note on March 1st
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S IIGALAXY Note
An Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note is slated for a March 1st release, according to mobile industry insider Eldar Murtazin. Murtazin posted a tweet claiming the official update would roll out next month, though availability will vary depending on country and carrier. He also said that the Android 4.0 update will be made available over the air or using Samsung’s Kies software. Samsung previously announced that an Android 4.0 upgrade would be coming to the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Note, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 leaked, says it'll arrive later this month
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY mini 2
Whoa there, another phone leak? It could only be the run-up to Mobile World Congress. This time, it's Samsung that's let slip, and the not-particularly high-end Galaxy Mini 2. Mini in size, minor in specifications, it will purportedly arrive with a 3.3-inch display at 480 x 320 resolution, running Gingerbread on an 800MHz processor. Unfortunately, at that speed, don't expect to get any Adobe Flash action on this presumably entry-level phone. It'll be capable of HSDPA data speeds up to 7.2Mbps; add in a three-megapixel camera, 3GB of built-in storage and it's all starting to sound a bit 2008. GSM Arena's mole pegs it for a February release, so that could mean it sprints out ahead of MWC, but ...

Good news for our Canadian readers – soon (“early Q2″) you’ll be able to get the Samsung Galaxy S II HD. If you recall, we’re talking about an enhanced version of the original Galaxy S II which is offered by AT&T as Skyrocket HD.
Specs wise, it comes with a bigger (when compared to the original Galaxy S II) 4.65-inch screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, a la Galaxy Nexus. In addition, this bad boy rocks a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, front-facing camera for video calls, NFC support, GPS and so on.

Samsung won't host an MWC 2012 press conference
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
It was shocking enough to hear that Samsung won't introduce the Galaxy S III at MWC later this month, but now the company has gone further by announcing that it won't even hold a press event during the 2012 show. Sascha Segan over at PC Mag was first to hear this troubling news, which deprives us of one of the most colorful and frankly ostentatious events of the year. Samsung should still have a new product or three to launch at MWC, as promised, however the usual big set-piece event is now off the table.

Win a free Samsung Galaxy Note from Samsung Canada
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Note
As part of the promotion for its highly sought-after phablet (phone/tablet), Samsung Canada is running a contest in which it will give away 5 Galaxy Note units to lucky bastards users.
The huge device is heading to Canada’s three networks — including TELUS, Bell and Rogers — and will cost up to $729.99 sans any long-term commitments. Of course, with a three-year contract the price goes down, but you’ll still need to shell out some $200 to get this beast phone/tablet.
The contest has already started and it runs through February 13th at 6:00 pm. You can check out all the details from this page at Samsung’s website. Good luck!
And before I let you, let me once again repeat the Galaxy Note’s sp...

Samsung will not hold a press conference at MWC
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
Samsung has confirmed that the company will not be holding a press event at this month’s Mobile World Congress trade show, reports to PCMag. At last year’s event the company introduced the Galaxy S II smartphone and in 2010 it announced its Bada mobile operating system. Samsung may still have product introductions at the show, however it will not debut them on the big stage. The company previously confirmed that the highly anticipated Galaxy S III smartphone would not be announced at the event, and BGR exclusively reported in December that Samsung has plans to unveil a new high-end tablet with a high-definition display at Mobile World Congress, though the status of those plans may have chang...

Samsung used low cost chip for Samsung GALAXY Nexus
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
A breakdown of the Samsung GALAXY Nexus by ABI Research revealed that the Korean based manufacturer used a low cost LTE chip in Verizon's variant of the phone. The newer chip offers the same high-data performance as the older one, but at half the $23 cost according to ABI Research. It is smart purchasing like this that has enabled a company like Pantech to offer an LTE enabled phone like the Pantech Burst, for under $50 with a signed 2-year contract. And by making phones that support LTE cheaper, it helps spread the use of the technology globally.
ABI Research says that the Samsung GALAXY Nexus modem is constructed with the combination of a Via Telecom CDMA/EVDO Rev. A integrated circuit an...

Android 4.0.4 ROM leaks for Verizon's Galaxy Nexus
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsSamsungVerizon WirelessGoogleGALAXY NexusAndroid 4.0
A little gem known as Android 4.0.4 wriggled its way onto the interweb last week, and while it was geared specifically for Sprint's Nexus S 4G, a similar version has just cropped up for the CDMA / LTE Galaxy Nexus from Verizon. While it's only available for tenacious users who've unlocked their bootloader, it seems that a host of improvements are on deck for the official release. First and foremost, the ROM is said to be noticeably faster, with the speed gains also extending to the web browser and the device's boot time. The release also packs a new radio file that (at least from user impressions) offers more seamless transitions between the CDMA and LTE networks. All in all, the rest of the...
