Nokia Lumia 610 pours out its insides to the FCC, gets accepted

Posted on Mar 08, 2012 by MG1

The Nokia Lumia 610 hasn't officially found a home in the US, but that doesn't stop it from paying the good 'ol FCC a visit either way. The entry-level Windows Phone sure put on quite the show, too, providing a full set of internal and external pics and a user manual. The device we saw offers 3G connectivity by way of 850 / 1900 radios to allow for AT&T compatibility, which means at the very least you'll be able to import one and get some proper use out of it, even if you don't see the Lumia 610 on a US carrier anytime soon. Take a look below to behold the full visual spread.

During Nokia’s press conference at Mobile World Congress 2012, the Finnish smartphone maker introduced the Nokia 808 PureView. The handset is equipped with a jaw-dropping 41 megapixel camera, a 1.3GHz single-core processor, 512MB of RAM and the dated Symbian Belle operating system. The high resolution 41 megapixel sensor features Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology that allows you to zoom in without any loss of clarity when taking pictures at low resolutions. Nokia’s VP of Marketing, Jo Harlow, confirmed to Finnish newspaper Aamulehti that its PureView technology is heading to the Windows Phone mobile platform as a part of the Lumia series of smartphones. Harlow said that...

New Nokia Lumia 800 firmware "triples" battery life

New Nokia Lumia 800 firmware "triples" battery life

Posted on Mar 06, 2012 by MG3

Nokia’s first Windows Phone, the Lumia 800, started shipping almost four months ago. A small percentage of those who were the first to pick it up have had some issues with their battery. Either their device was burning through a full charge way too quickly, or worse yet they couldn’t even recharge their phone and had to replace it. In order to rectify the issue Nokia said they would ship two firmware updates, which they did, but some people still experienced issues. Today we’ve just learned that there’s a third firmware update being rolled out in Singapore, version 12070. The folks at WPCentral flashed it on their Lumia 800 and say that battery life “tripled”, but the good news doesn’t stop ...

Nokia's 808 PureView won't come to North America

Nokia's 808 PureView won't come to North America

Posted on Mar 06, 2012 by MG1

This doesn't come as a major surprise to us, but Nokia has confirmed that it doesn't plan to bring the 808 PureView to US or any other nearby countries. Buried deep within the device specifications page, there's a note about "global" availabilty — excluding North America. That's just as well, since Nokia stopped selling unlocked devices directly in the US last year, and no US carrier would be wiling to pick up a Symbian phone at this point. That's not even to mention the fact that Nokia confirmed last year that it would not bring any more Symbian phones to the US. Still, this phone's incredibly unique camera design was sure to attract some interest, but those people who want to give it a sho...

Posted on Mar 05, 2012 by MG1

While those in the U.S. patiently await the Nokia Lumia 900’s debut on AT&T, our neighbors to the north will be able to purchase the Windows Phone handset through Rogers. The question on everybody’s mind is, “How much?”
WPCentral received a picture of Roger’s inventory system revealing the price of the anticipated device. According the photo, it will retail for $499.99. Hopefully signing a 2-year commitment will reduce the consumer’s expense even further. Unfortunately, the release date is not specified in the image, but pre-orders just opened up so, hopefully it will be available really soon.

It does not have a touchscreen, but does bring a 1GHz CPU and 14.4Mbps data speeds for 95 euros, shipping now. The 202 and 203 do have 2.4-inch tou...
