Fujifilm have confirmed that they will release a Leica M adapter for the new X-Pro 1. Speaking to journalists at an exclusive briefing, Fujifilm stated that the adapter will not be launched at next month’s CP+ photography show in Japan, but will be released by April this year. Fujifilm have come up with a brand new category name for the X-Pro1 - “premium interchangeable lens camera” - which is claimed to be very different to a “conventional mirrorless camera”, hence the new name.

Samsung to partner up with Olympus?

A Samsung source has said that the company is open to the possibility of an alliance with rival manufacturer Olympus.
Although Samsung has previously declared it isn't interesting in buying up the Olympus camera business, it is considering a partnership with the company in other areas.
Olympus is currently considering an equity tie-up with five candidate companies which include Sony and Panasonic, according to the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.

Casio updates range with EX-ZS150, EX-ZS20, EX-ZS12 and EX-ZS6

Casio has released the EX-ZS150, EX-ZS20, EX-ZS12 and EX-ZS6, refreshing its compact camera range. The four cameras are all based around 16MP CCD sensors and feature the company's 'easy Mode' interface, which offers which offers to guide the user to the optimal setters, as well as providing the ability to simply point-and-shoot. The ZS150 includes a stabilized 12.5x, 24-300mm equiv lens, similar to the one in the flagship ZR200 but the CCD chip means it can't offer that camera's high-speed features. The ZS20 has a 6x unstabilized zoom, starting at 26mm equiv, and including the company's Premium Auto mode. The ZS12 and ZS6 lose both these features, instead including 5x, 26mm equiv zooms.

Samsung considering more advanced CSC

Samsung is considering producing a more advanced compact system camera with more traditional style controls in order to attract enthusiast photographers, according to Nick White, Head of Digital Imaging at Samsung UK. Speaking candidly to TechRadar, White said that 2011 had been a tough year for its compact system cameras and they have failed to achieve the sales figures that the company believe they merit. Despite many favourable reviews, Samsung's CSCs have suffered from fierce competiton and aggressive advertising campaigns from other manufacturers, particularly in the run up to Christmas.

The all-metal, 16-megapixel Olympus VR-340 and VR-360 come equipped with 24-240mm and 24-300mm equivalent lenses, respectively. Both are slim, compact cameras with a small right-hand grip, sensor-shift image stabilisation, 720p HD movie recording capability, Magic Filters, Eye-Fi memory card support and a 3” rear screen with 460,000 dots. Both VR cameras will be available in March 2012. The Olympus VR-360 costs €149, while the VR-340 will sell for €129 / £129.99.

Kodak has unveiled new compact cameras to sit in its Easyshare and Playfull range, along with two new apps for creating albums and prints. The first camera, the Kodak Easyshare M750, enables users to share pictures instantly. Using the Kodak Easyshare app on Android, Apple or BlackBerry devices enables pictures to be sent wirelessly to Facebook, Kodak Gallery and email, as well as emailing pictures to compatible Kodak printers. Panasonic's Lumix line gets a lot more crowded

Panasonic's Lumix line is celebrating a whole bunch of new entries this week at CES. The FH series is expanding with two new slim additions, the DMC-FH6 and DMC-FH8. Both models do 720p video at 30 fps and rock Leica lenses and 5x optical zoom. The 16.1 megapixel FH8 has a three-inch LCD and shoots HD videos in MP4. The 14.1 megapixel F6 captures HD video in JPEG format and features a 2.7-inch display. Both new entries in the SZ series, meanwhile, feature 10x optical zoom, three-inch LCDs and 25mm ultra-wide angle Leica lenses. The SZ7 does 14.1 megapixel images and 1080p video, while the SZ1 goes 14.1 megapixels and 720p on the video front.

Pre-CES: Panasonic has announced the Lumix DMC-SZ7 and DMC-SZ1, two 10X 'style zoom' cameras. Both cameras feature 25-250mm equivalent stabilized zoom lenses, 3.0" automatically adjusting LCDs and USB charging. The SZ7 is built around a 14MP MOS sensor with 1080i60 video and has a 460k dot LCD, whereas the SZ1 features a 16MP CCD sensor that captures 720p30 and has a 230k dot LCD.
