Ricoh Releases PJWX4130 and PJWX4130N Projectors

Ricoh is proud to announce today their first pair of ultra-short-throw projectors, the PJWX4130 and PJWX4130N. Both projectors include 2500 ANSI lumens, a 2500:1 contrast ratio, and a WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. The main difference between the two projectors is in the control panel. Both projectors include a RGB, HDMI, composite, and an audio port. The PJWX4130N also includes USB port and wireless network connectivity. The projectors are designed for conference rooms and small-to-midsize meeting spaces. Version 1.24 fixes a bug that sometimes caused parts of the live view feed to momentarily turn purple upon a half-press of the shutter release in “Toy Camera” and “Miniaturise” modes. Ricoh will soon add a new lens module to its GXR camera, the company's Japanese website and roadmap revealed. It will be based on an APS-C sized CMOS sensor and use a 24-85mm equivalent zoom lens. The sensor is likely to use a Sony 16-megapixel chip for the module like that in the NEX-C3.
The lens is expected to get f3.5-5.5 aperture, and an official announcement is supposedly due at CES, with a January 20 launch. The timing coincides with the "early 2012" date mentioned in the roadmap. Prices and other technical details are not yet available, however

Ricoh has announced the release of a new CX6 compact camera, which features a 10.7x optical zoom lens and introduces a new quick AF system.
The new system enhances the hardware and software of the hybrid AF system debuted in the CX5, with Ricoh claiming that the new CX6 is capable of achieving focusing times as fast as 0.1 seconds.
Meanwhile, the LCD monitor has been made 1.7 times brighter than the previous model, said to improve visibility outdoors. The CX6 also adds the ability to automatically adjust the brightness depending on the conditions.

Ricoh has posted a firmware upgrade for its GXR system. Version 1.37, which affects the Ricoh GXR camera body, GR LENS A12 28mm F2.5, GR LENS A12 50mm F2.5 MACRO, RICOH LENS S10 24-72 mm F2.5-4.4 VC and RICOH LENS P10 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 VC, addresses the following issue: “The focus setting may not be reflected properly if the shooting mode is manually set to [S] mode (Shutter priority mode) in the [Edit My Settings] menu.” S10 owners get an additional bug fix related to the One-Press M Mode function. Pentax has announced that Ricoh has purchased the Pentax Imaging Systems division from Hoya Corporation.
The agreement will see the transfer of developing, manufacturing and selling optical instruments including digital cameras, lenses, and digital camera accessories to Ricoh.
The current owners of Pentax, Hoya, will continue to develop businesses gained from Pentax in the original 2008 merger including digital camera modules.

Pentax currently sells a range of DSLRs and compact cameras, including the Pentax Q which was launched last week.

Pentax, Sony, Leica and Ricoh have released firmware updates for several of their cameras. Pentax has updated the firmware for its K-r, K-5 and 645D. Firmware v1.01 for all three cameras brings compatibility with the recently-announced 0-GPS module. Sony, meanwhile, has created updates for its NEX-3 and NEX-5, and SLT A33 and A55 models, adding many of the features of its forthcoming NEX-C3 and SLT A35 cameras. Leica has updated the firmware for its M9 digital rangefinder to improve color consistency across the frame when used with wide-angle lenses.
