Judge Hasn't Seen Evidence Of Confusion In Amazon-Apple App Store Suit

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: Amazon

Remember that whole trademark tiff between Apple and Amazon over the generic or non-generic term “app store?” Despite going quiet for the past month, the case is certainly not over, although statements made by U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton suggest that Apple may be losing steam in its fight.
She referred to Apple’s proof as a “stumbling block” when the company argued that the stores’ similar names – Apple App Store and Amazon Appstore for Android – could cause confusion among consumers. Judge Hamilton also indicated that she would “probably” reject Apple’s motion for a preliminary injunction against Amazon’s use of the term “app store.”
Though Apple didn’t receive approval to coin the...

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

What you are seeing above is the new Nokia N950 device available exclusively to developers. It won’t be on sale for the public. This landscape qwerty keyboard device packs a gigahertz processor, 8 megapixel camera with carl-zesis optics and other smartphone standard specs covered by a aluminium body as opposed to polycarbonate unibody in N9. On the downside, it doesn’t have NFC and boasts less power battery when compared to its sibling Nokia N9. As expected, it runs on Meego OS. What do you think of Nokia’s latest devices? Nokia N9, N950 and Sea Ray?

The news jibes with multiple earlier reports that Apple’s iPhone 5 is set to launch this September, though it may launch even sooner in the U.S. and other key markets. The news was first relayed by Chinese language website Bianews.com, which reported on Thursday that a China Mobile employee wrote that the carrier would launch the iPhone 5 in September in a post on Weibo.com, a micro-blogging service similar to Twitter. The post was subsequently deleted. Apple COO Tim ...

Apple filed for this touchscreen patent back in 2007. But now that it has finally been awarded, it could have sweeping effects on the wireless landscape in the U.S. The patent covers nearly every industry-standard feature of the capacitive interface, which would affect every device maker.
The patent states, most generally, that it covers "a computer-implemented method, for use in conjunction with a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display, [that] comprises displaying a portion of page content, including a frame displaying a portion of frame content and also including other content of the page, on the touch screen display."
The patent also extends to multi-touch gestures like...

Nokia demonstrates its very first Windows Phone device

Nokia demonstrates its very first Windows Phone device

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

Wow, Nokia has been making quite a lot of headlines lately. Only days after the announcement of the Nokia N9 – a supposedly “market disrupting” device powered by the MeeGo platform, the company has lifted the veil off its very first Windows Phone handset. It was Stephen Elop himself who introduced the smartphone in front of an unsuspecting audience, after which Jukka Kiiskinen, a services sales manager at Nokia, demonstrated Microsoft's mobile platform running on the device.
The smartphone is only known by its Sea Ray codename so far, and if Nokia's plans unfold as expected, it should hit the market by the end of this year. Little details have been mentioned about the device, but what we kno...

Samsung Galaxy S II Launching Into Space on July 15th

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

Most phones don’t get the chance to say they’ve been outside our atmosphere, but the Samsung Galaxy S II isn’t most phones. Samsung’s latest super phone is taking a very special trip outside our layer of the atmosphere and chilling out 98,000 feet above sea level in the layer called the stratosphere. This trip is a special promotional stunt by Samsung and will take place July 14th. This same stunt was performed with the Nexus S, and it’s meant to show how strong these phones are.
This whole thing happens with the help of a specially made weather balloon that has been made to reach that height. Samsung has tested this weather balloon many times, so it’s good to know that they do this before l...

Samsung Looses Battle to Pull LG Commercials

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG3

Filed in: SamsungLG

When it comes to passive vs. active 3D technology, the two main companies butting heads are Samsung and LG Electronics. Recently, Samsung has been filing cease and desist orders to LG for their passive 3D advertisements. Samsung claims that the ads are “misleading and deceptive.” The commercials are a series of four commercials that each talks about one specific benefit that passive technology has over active technology. Samsung has been trying for months to get the advertisements pulled, but recently, the court stated LG is not in any wrong and gave the commercials the seal of approval. This victory is another step towards incorporating passive 3D technology into the household instead of th...

Hulu Plus for Android is available now... for six devices

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG3

The good news is that Hulu Plus for Android is on the market, but the bad news is that you may not be able to install it yet. The official Hulu Blog has just been updated with news that six phones -- Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Atrix -- are on the compatible list with "additional device announcements" due later in the year. While there's some crossover with the list of Netflix-compatible devices, it's hardly complete and many flagship phones are still missing. Here's hoping the tweakers can work their magic on that apk and get it running for the rest of us, whether we're shelling out $7.99 a month or just want to leech some Chappe...
