DisplayPort 1.2 gets active cable support
Like UnlikeVESA, the body that oversees the DisplayPort standard, has extended that standard to support active cables. Active cables can allow runs of up to 100 feet, five times greater than the maximum length of a passive cable. The cables can also be thinner than passive cables, providing even more flexibility for home theater installs or other complex setups.
An active DisplayPort cable sends signals in both directions. To help avoid confusion, VESA has specified a new logo to identify which end of the cable should be connected to the display or computer.
The DisplayPort initiative was first pushed by Dell back in 2003. The intent was to minimize the number of cables and diverse connectors associate...

Asus unleashes ultra-thin U36 notebook
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksASUSU36JC
These laptops just keep on getting thinner, with the latest to enter the super slim brigade arriving in the form of the Asus U36.
The 19mm thick magnesium alloy netbook features clever technology that means it keeps itself clean, so you can transport it anywhere you go. Dirt, water and fingerprint marks are repelled by the laptops nanometer coating. Mucky-pups will also like the seamless chiclet keyboard which keeps those crumbs at bay.
The laptop itself features something called the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine that allows for USB 3.0 toggling. Nvidia graphics with Optimus technology, a standard voltage i5 processor and 13.3 inch HD tft display make up the rest of the U36's hardware specs.

Both Edison and Lite-On have been stepping up their shipments of LED flashes to major phone designers, Digitimes heard, making them ideal candidates.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google appears to have revamped the security features in Chrome 14, an update to the company's browser that is still in beta development. The build currently blocks secure sites from using unencrypted scripts on pages that are supposed to be protected via HTTPS protocols. Aside from JavaScript scripts, the blocks also extend to plug-ins and external CSS stylesheets.

Cricket LTE Network Coming to Tucscon, AZ First
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cricket
Cricket is launching its very own LTE network, and it plans to start testing in Tucson, Arizona first. In fact, the company will begin testing during the second half of this year using the Huawei E397 dual-mode modem, which tells us that USB modems and perhaps mobile hotspots will arrive long before LTE-capable smartphones will. That’s usually the case for most carriers, anyway.
Why didn’t Cricket jump on the 4G bandwagon sooner? PC Mag reports:

HTC EVO 3D getting bug fixing update before its release
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCEVO 3D
The handset isn’t even officially available yet, and the EVO 3D is already getting an update. The update brings the software version up to 1.13.651.7, and contains a bug fix for the calendar application.
The bug itself would force close the Calendar application when one was trying to edit an event, and while that’s definitely a good thing to catch before the handset is officially in stores, but the update itself seems to be rather large for a simple bug fix, coming in at 26.59MB. Nonetheless, we’re glad to see such a bug has been caught before the release, as it’s a doozy.
With only a few days to go until the official launch for the EVO 3D, we may even see more updates hit as soon as the dev...

Mozilla Firefox 5 For Android Goes Live On The Android Market
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
Mozilla‘s Firefox 5 for Android is now available from the Android Market, carrying over some of the same features as the new desktop browser. Most of the upgrade involved under-the-hood bug fixes and enhancements, but there are still a couple cool new features to get excited about.
For one, Mozilla included the Do Not Track function that was added to the desktop browser, giving the user more control over their data and information about their browsing habits to have a worry-free surfing experience. Unfortunately, the feature only works when websites recognize and honor the setting, so it may not actually make much of a difference for your average user.
Other features of the Firefox 5 mobile ...

It looks like Motorola is unlocking the Atrix bootloader with the Gingerbread update
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsMotorolaGoogleAndroid 2.3ATRIX 4G
Motorola had said that they would change their policy on locking bootloaders by Q3 of this year, but the changes look like they're starting early. BriefMobile has confirmed through a leaked Gingerbread update for the Motorola Atrix 4G that the update will allow easy unlocking of the bootloader.
The Gingerbread update for the Atrix is scheduled to be released over-the-air in July, and will update the phone to Android 2.3.3, which unfortunately means that the phone still won't be able to use the new video chat in GTalk which requires 2.3.4. But, the update will allow the use of the traditional fastboot oem unlock command to unlock the bootloader. And, an unlocked bootloader means full support...

HTC announces the HTC EVO 4G+ in South Korea
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCEVO 4G
HTC South Korea has just announced a new device called the EVO 4G+ that looks a lot like something we’re soon due to get in the states, the EVO 3D. We wouldn’t hold it against you if you failed to tell the difference between the two smartphones, because based on looks alone they’re practically twins. The Evo 4G+, like the EVO 3D, has a 1.2 GHz dual core CPU, 4.3 inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display, 1GB of RAM, and can hop on WiMAX networks, albeit the Korean version known as WiBro. Unlike the 3D, the 4G+ also does 14.4 Mbps HSPA+ on the 900 MHz and 2100 MHz bands, meaning it’s a good fit for both Asian and European countries. The 4G+ also lacks a pair of 5 megapixel cameras and a 3D display,...

Judge denies Samsung access to unreleased iPad, iPhone
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
According to FOSS Patents, a judge in the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California has ruled that Samsung cannot view Apple’s next-generation iPad and iPhone products. The whole debacle started when Apple began accusing Samsung of creating copycat products — as such, it asked the Korean firm to produce its next-generation devices inside a court room. The court took Apple’s side and Samsung was forced to show Apple the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G, and DROID Charge. In an effort to prepare for further legal battles with Apple, Samsung wanted the same access to Apple’s next generation products. For now, that won’t happen. The reasoning behind the ju...

T-Mobile reacts to latest FCC filings by opponents of the merger
Like UnlikeFiled in: T-Mobile
It hasn't been a secret that Sprint is by far the biggest opponent of the proposed AT&T-T-Mobile merger. CEO Dan Hesse has basically done all he can to oppose and present arguments as to why the deal shouldn't get done, including an explanation of how AT&T could actually increase its network capacity without acquiring T-Mobile, the nation's fourth-largest carrier.
However, it seems T-Mobile's Tom Sugrue, the company's Vice President of Government Affairs, has decided to join the debate by issuing a comment on recent FCC filings. According to the official, opponents of the merger have thus far “failed to offer any credible arguments”, and have demonstrated a “head-in-the-sand insistence that ...

LulzSec hacked, exposed by rival hackers
Like UnlikeLulzSec isn’t making any friends in the U.S. government or within any of the numerous companies that own the websites it has hacked, and apparently the group has managed to rub a few other hackers the wrong way as well. A website said to belong to a Dutch member of the hacker group LulzSec has reportedly been hacked by another group known as “TeaMp0isoN.” The site has since been taken down, but not before a 17-year-old TeaMp0isoN member was able to infiltrate it and post a statement. “Stop telling yourself that u are hackers, putting a ip into a irc is NOT hacking nor is using pre-made tools and scripts to grab databases,” the statement read. “You do not represent the anti-sec movement, u ar...

Apple iPhone 5 coming in September, latest report says
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
The Apple iPhone rumors go into overdrive this year because Steve Jobs didn’t introduce the 2011 model at WWDC and Bloomberg is reporting that the next iPhone (iPhone 5? iPhone 4GS?) will land in September, just in time for the back-to-school season.
The report says that the iPhone 5 will sport the new dual-core processor that can be found in the iPad 2 and it should also have a boosted camera. I’d expect it to be bumped up to 8 megapixels but find that the 5-megapixel camera in the current version is very, very good.
The report also says that the next iPhone will look similar to the latest one on the market, which is a direct dispute of another recent rumor which says that this version will...
