Its the weirdest rumor, but vr-zone claims that Intel is trying very hard to get a new platform out this year, although this means that the company will axe a lot of platform features, here's a blunt CC from them.
Judging by the information we've seen, Intel is having several issues with the new platform, ranging from storage, to PCI Express and apparently even CPU revisions. It's pretty much bad news all around. But let's take a step back and look at things with a view from Intel's Xeon roadmap. The picture below is from a partner presentation and although it's been seen before, we're going to leave that partner un-named as we don't want to get them in any trouble. As you can see, it detai....

T-Mobile UK's Samsung Galaxy S finally gets the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update

T-Mobile UK's Samsung Galaxy S finally gets the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update

Posted on Jul 18, 2011 by MG3

I’m not sure why it took so long for T-Mobile UK to finally launch the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original Samsung Galaxy S. I know carriers like to test firmware updates thoroughly, but I don’t think that’s the excuse. Especially when we know that AT&T’s version of the device (Samsung Captivate) and Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G already got the same treatment. What’s more, we know that the Android 2.3.4 is in works for unlocked Galaxy S.

Job offer suggests that Microsoft is working on a top secret project

Upon hearing the term “top secret” being mentioned, the first association that comes to mind would probably revolve around spy flicks and would not necessarily have anything to do with a job description listed online. That is why we got curious when we found out that Microsoft itself is working on a top secret project, and skilled software engineers are needed to put it together.

Companies purchase a ton of domain names defensively each year, but a recent Microsoft acquisition has the rumor mill working overtime. While one might expect the Redmond based software giant to grab hold of something like windowssucks.com (which they did), you probably wouldn’t expect them to also buy up microsoft-sony.com and sony-microsoft.com.

If like most Maximum PC readers you’re the first person friends and family call when looking for tech advice, you might want to think twice before suggesting they move away from Internet Explorer. According to a recent report from NSS Labs, Internet Explorer 9’s dual-pronged approach to blocking malicious URLs wasn’t just slightly better than the rest; it’s pretty much night and day.

Windows 8 Will Have Same System Reqs as Win 7

Windows 8 Will Have Same System Reqs as Win 7

Posted on Jul 18, 2011 by MG3

The jump in system requirements going from Windows XP to Windows Vista was significant. The move from Windows 7 to Windows Vista, however, wasn't anything of the sort. In fact, Windows 7 ran better than Windows Vista on modest systems.
Even though Windows 8 isn't set for release until 2012 at the soonest, Microsoft is targeting a similar set of minimum system requirements as the ones for Windows 7. By extension, this would mean that Windows 8 will have similar hardware requirements as Windows Vista – an operating system that could predate Windows 8 by three years.

Lenovo nudged out Acer to become the world's third-largest PC maker, and is inching closer to taking the second spot from Dell, according to IDC research released on Wednesday.
Lenovo benefitted from stable PC growth in Asia-Pacific and an expansion of its distribution channel in more regions, IDC said. Acer tumbled into fourth place after a management shakeup ousted Gianfranco Lanci as the company's CEO in March and after mismanagement of inventory in the company's distribution channel in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

No one can take raw data and come up with as many categories as Millennial Media and its monthly Media Mix report can. Using the number of impressions on the firm's media network, certain rankings can be devised. For example, 16 out of the top 20 phones globally in the June 2011 report are Android powered even with the Apple iPhone listed as number one and the BlackBerry Curve as number two, making 16.19% and 5.57% of impressions on Millennial Media's ad network respectively.

While waiting to get your grubby paws all over Elop's miscarriage, indulge yourself in an updated S40 app -- shown running here on a couple Touch-and-Type devices -- which now features tighter Ovi Maps integration and the heretofore omitted "Explore" function. The inclusions, the company reckons, will help those in emerging markets like South America and Asia grow its ten million over-sharing user base. Glimpses of both can be seen beyond the break along with Foursquare's CEO Naveen Selvadurai musing on all things Finnish.
