Yahoo rumored willing to buy Hulu for four-year exclusive
Like UnlikeYahoo's interest in purchasing Hulu may be reigniting. SAI reports that if Hulu's current owners are willing to guarantee four or five years of exclusive access to content, then Yahoo might be interested in paying up to $2 billion for the streaming content provider. Neither Hulu, its owners, or Yahoo have commented.
Hulu has reportedly been shopping itself around to potential buyers since late June, when the company was approached with a buyout offer. Earlier this month, Disney CEO Bob Igor confirmed that Hulu's primary owners, Disney, NBCUniversal (now part of Comcast), and News Corp were indeed looking to sell off the TV streaming service, and had retained Morgan Stanley to assist. Yahoo, ...

Sprint's Dan Hesse: significant 4G plans to be announced this fall
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
We're here at Sprint's monolithic campus in Overland Park, and part of our day was spent speaking directly with CEO Dan Hesse. Amongst other things, the bigwig confessed that it had been awhile since his company (or Clearwire) had launched a 4G market. While Verizon Wireless has been pushing out LTE to new cities on what feels like a fortnightly basis, there's been nary a WiMAX deployment in the US during 2011. But that, friends, is gearing up to change. According to Hesse: "We're going to come out with a great story this fall around 4G, and it'll all become clear." He seemed curiously excited about whatever's around the bend, and Sprint's VP of Product Development, Fared Adib, seemed simila...

HTC's Puccini tablet goes through the FCC, heading to AT&T
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHTC
HTC's upcoming 10-inch tablet has surfaced once again and from the looks of things it could be ready for AT&T's network soon. The successor to the company's first tablet, the HTC Flyer, has just passed FCC certification in the U.S. and with that we now have confirmation that it will support LTE connectivity on the AWS 4 and 17 bands -- which AT&T's upcoming 4G network is expected to use -- as well as 3G on the GSM 850/1900MHz and WCDMA 850/1900MHz bands.
Unfortunately no other hardware details were unveiled in the filing, but previous leaks have pointed to a 10-inch screen with a pixel resolution of 1280x720, a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon MSM8660 dual-core processor, and Android Honeycomb with HTC's ...

According to the NY Times, the charges were filed by United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts Carmen M. Ortiz and could result in 35 years of prison time and a $1 million fine. Playbook WiFi Being Canceled? Not So Fast!
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsRIM BlackBerryPlayBook
Not too many people batted an eye at speculation that Research in Motion, the company behind all Blackberry products, would be putting an end to the WiFi version of its Playbook tablet.
But RIM has something to say about it - namely that such speculation is completely baseless.
RBC Capital Markets managing director Mike Abramsky wrote in a note to investors that RIM could possibly pull the WiFi-only Playbook models and focus exclusively on mobile carrier-support 3G-enabled versions of the device.
Abramsky posited that RIM would immediately stop production of the WiFi model but continue to market and sell through its existing inventory.

FBI Expands Anonymous Hacker Arrests Nationwide
Like UnlikeNew York was just the start: the FBI's knocked (on? down?) doors in Florida, New Jersey, and California today, Fox News reports—part of what the FBI is describing as a wide assault on the nebulous collective.
"I can confirm that we're conducting law enforcement actions relating to a criminal investigation," said a rep for the feds. The raids have, so far, not netted any actual charges, but at the very least will serve as a shot across the hull of the LulzBoat, which has so far been sailing with mostly legal impunity. [Fox News]
Update: Fox News now reports that British police have arrested Tflow, a LulzSec bigwig, in South London.
Update 2: Threat Level reports that the original US raids wer...

While this is just a test, and the assortment of available songs is just a small subset of Zune's full library, it does reveal Microsoft's pricing for songs and albums in the country. Two Lenses Will Fix Compact Cameras' Depth of Field, Proposes Samsung
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasSamsung
Rather than be used for 3D photos and video, Samsung's proposing that this dual-lens camera patent could actually help compact cameras capture a shallower depth of field, where focused objects stand out more, and backgrounds are blurred.
It'd work like two cameras, with one lens taking a shot at a lower resolution, and the second lens taking a shot at a higher resolution. When conjoined instantly by the camera's processor, the single image should make the object focused on pop out more, with the background blurred, in the typical "open" aperture style.
While it's only a patent application, it will be fascinating to see if Samsung goes ahead with their idea—and if they can resist the temptati...

Hackers Vow to Release News Corp. Emails
Like UnlikeIndividuals associated with hacker groups Anonymous and LulzSec said yesterday's hack of The Sun newspaper Web site also resulted in the collection of emails and passwords from that publication and the now-defunct News of the World.
"Sun/News of the world OWNED. We're sitting on their emails," a hacker known as Sabu tweeted yesterday.
Sabu went on to release the purported email and password for Rebekah Brooks (using her maiden name, Wade), the former News International chief who was arrested over the weekend for her alleged role in a phone-hacking scandal that has rocked parent company News Corporation. A fellow hacker known as anon_alex also posted log-in information for Bill Akass, managin...

Online XXX domains offered to non-porn companies
Like UnlikeThe ICM Registry has revealed that it has had 900,000 interested parties contact them about the use of the XXX web suffix – which is to be a regulated section of the internet intended for pornography.
The registry has noted that a number of those looking to sign up to the service were companies that did not want to be associated with adult material but wanted to grab their domains so that cyber-squatters wouldn't start posting nudie pics under their moniker.
Because of this, it is offering something called a 'sunrise period' so companies can get their act together.

Apple Loses Bid for ITC Review of Kodak Patent Ruling
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleKODAK
The International Trade Commission on Monday upheld an earlier ruling that said Kodak devices do not infringe upon patents held by Apple.
The ITC has decided not to review Apple's appeal, ITC secretary James Holbein wrote in his decision.
"We are pleased that the Commission has confirmed the [administrative law judge's] finding that there is no violation by Kodak," Kodak said in a statement.
The case dates back to April 2010, when Apple asked the ITC to investigate whether Kodak had violated patents relating to digital still and video cameras with its Kodak Z, Kodak M, and Kodak C series of cameras, as well as its Kodak Slice and Playsport devices. The ITC agreed to hear the case the followi...
