HTC Omega specs leaked: 3.8-inch screen, 1.5GHz CPU, 8 MP camera, Windows Phone Mango

Posted on Jul 27, 2011 by MG1

Another HTC’s Windows Phone device has been leaked. The new one, codenamed Omega, looks like a mass-market product that doesn’t rock a super-large 4.3-inch screen — rather it will reportedly sport a 3.8-inch WVGA display, making it easy to carry around in one’s pocket. That said, this could easily be the Mango-running successor of the HTC Mozart.
As for the rest of the specs, according to Gadgetian – the HTC Omega will also come with a 1.5GHz single-core Qualcomm processor, 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording and LED flash, 16GB of built-in storage, 512MB of RAM, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS and a 3.5mm headset jack. We’ve no idea when HTC will officially launch the Omega, bu...

Nokia's Ovi Store surpasses 50,000 apps

Nokia’s Ovi Store now has more than 50,000 apps in the catalog, with more than 6.5 million downloads per day taking place. That’s up from the previous count of 48,000 apps and 6 million daily downloads.
Despite the solid growth, the Finnish company has a lot of catching up to do to reach the heights of Apple’s AppStore and Google’s Android Market, if that’s part of the plan at all. We all know Nokia has selected Windows Phone 7 as its main platform for the future and now it’s up to Microsoft to drive the developers’ interest.
Nokia also reiterated its plans for Qt-based apps, which can run on its Symbian and MeeGo phones and soon even on feature phones. The company said that for developers, ...

Verizon's Blackberry Bold 9930 unveiled early thanks to website blunder

Verizon's Blackberry Bold 9930 unveiled early thanks to website blunder

Posted on Jul 27, 2011 by MG1

Oh boy, we don't envy the Verizon web admin who made this particular mis-click. If you go to VZW's sales page for the Blackberry 9650 and click on the "Explore Features" video, you get an unexpected treat: a walkthrough not of the 9650, but of the unreleased Bold 9930. The specs are familiar, like the 1.2GHz processor, 2.8-inch touchscreen and Blackberry 7 OS. But at least we now have it from the horse's mouth that the new Bold Touch is indeed coming to Verizon. We've stuck our own rip of the video after the break, as the original will likely disappear any second -- much like that poor web admin.

HTC Salsa ditches its Facebook button for Weibo in China

Posted on Jul 26, 2011 by MG1

When is a "Facebook phone" not a Facebook phone? When it's in China. While this handset may look like an HTC Salsa at first glace, if you look a little closer you'll notice that the familiar little blue button has been replaced with one for Sina's Weibo social networking service. Lest you think this is just another KIRF, however, you can rest assured this is indeed the real deal, and a fairly big deal for HTC, considering that Weibo has around 150 million total users, and 50 million active monthly users. As for the phone itself, it's remained mostly unchanged otherwise, with it packing an 800MHz processor and a 3.4-inch 480 x 320 display, along with Android 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1 on top. Head ...

The Taiwanese phone maker formally announced the news this week, citing "personal reasons" as the motivation behind the CIO's exit. HTC had nothing but kind words for Luke, who had been with the company since 2006, stating that he had "nurtured a culture of innovation." The company's vice president of design, Scott Croyle, has stepped into the Luke's vacant position.

Acer CEO may hop to Samsung to head up Europe

Posted on Jul 26, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: SamsungAcer

Industry watchers say former Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci will join Samsung Electronics in August, insiders said. The executive will help Samsung expand its notebook business in Europe, as he is an expert in managing sales channels in Europe. Sources for Digitimes said Acer itself, ASUS, and HP may be seeking to hire Lanci as well.
Lanci quit at Acer in late March and singed a one-year non-compete agreement when he did so. Samsung will reportedly settle this problem by negotiating with Acer if it decides to hire him.
The acquisition, if it goes through, should help Samsung reach an ambitious goal of increasing notebook sales by 60 percent in 2011.
