Amazon is primarily known for their online store but the truth is that they have been offering cloud computing to business for many years. After the dot-com bubble burst in 2000, the company realize...

Motorola XOOM tablet 4G LTE upgrade coming in September

Posted on Jul 27, 2011 by MG1

If you can remember way back to February of this year when Verizon Wireless launched the Motorola XOOM, the first Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet to hit the market, the carrier had promised that it would get its anemic 3G CDMA radio upgraded to a speedy 4G LTE unit by this summer. Well, it appears Verizon's summer extends into September, as we have just received word from the carrier that the ninth month of this year is when the LTE upgrade will be available to XOOM owners.
Users will still have to part with their precious tablets for a undetermined amount of time in order to send the XOOM in to Motorola to get the upgrade, but the company has said in the past that it should take no longer than...

WPCentral reports, besides the Dell Venue Pro, T-Mobile is also pushing out a firmware update for the HTC HD7.
The update moves the firmware from 2250.09.12001.531 to 2250.21.30102.531 and the radio version from 5.51.09.11a_22.31.50.09U to 5.65.09.25a_22.45.50.21U.

It's the end of life for the HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Epic 4G and other Sprint models

Posted on Jul 27, 2011 by MG1

A leaked screenshot of an internal Sprint document was obtained by SprintFeed, and shows which devices the carrier has branded as "EOL" (end of life, although end of the line is more appropriate) and when the handsets will be phased out. Some of the phones being removed from Sprint's lineup are household names such as the HTC EVO 4G, the nation's first 4G enabled device. Also being phased out is the carrier's second 4G handset, the Samsung Epic 4G. Both devices have been replaced with newer models like the HTC EVO 3D and the Samsung built Nexus S 4G, offering the latest high-end specs to Sprint customers with the former adding 3D functionality.

In addition to exclusively revealing the first photos of AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S II earlier this morning, we also got our hands on the first solid images of HTC’s upcoming 10-inch slate, codenamed the HTC Puccini. While confirmed specifications are light for the time being, the tablet will feature an 8-megapixel camera with what appears to be a dual-LED flash, as well as stereo speakers and a microphone. Also, as we can clearly see in the image above, the Puccini will support stylus input just like the HTC Flyer. Earlier reports suggest the tablet will include a 1.5GHz processor, Android Honeycomb, HTC Sense and a 4G LTE radio. There’s still no word on a launch date, but let’s hope it’s soon...

Asus Eee Pad Slider slides past FCC

Asus Eee Pad Slider slides past FCC

Posted on Jul 27, 2011 by MG1

The Asus Eee Pad Slider has become more of a mystery with every passing day as the 10.1-inch slate first appeared at CES and was expected to land in May, but its launch was delayed all the way until August in the UK. The Slider however has now passed one more obstacle on its way to mass market, this time clearing the FCC, where it appeared with model number SL101.
Earlier in the month, Asus seemed hesitant about releasing the tablet as it was “running a couple of surveys to understand what is important for our customers.” With heaps of Honeycomb tablets storming the market, that's no surprise, but the Asus Eee Pad Slider definitely has more than the common tablet as it stands out with its sl...

The nationwide retailer on Tuesday announced an agreement that will finally see it begin to offer devices from the country’s top carrier on September 15th. At the same time, The Shack announced that it will stop selling T-Mobile products and services a day earlier on September 14th. Mozilla to make a new mobile OS based on Android code, webOS ideals

Mozilla to make a new mobile OS based on Android code, webOS ideals

Posted on Jul 27, 2011 by MG1

Mozilla, who we imagine isn’t too happy about losing market share to Google’s relatively new Chrome browser and the fact that Firefox Mobile isn’t taking off as well as they had hoped, has announced a new operating system dubbed “Boot to Gecko”, B2G for short. Now I know what you’re thinking, the market is already saturated thanks to iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Bada, and an untold number of feature phone operating systems, but Mozilla’s goal is quite honorable. They want to create an OS that, similar to HP/Palm webOS, will have applications built using web standards. B2G will have new APIs, which Mozilla hopes will someday become standards that anyone can use, that expose hardware functiona...

Android tablet population estimated at 1.2 million

Android tablet population estimated at 1.2 million

Posted on Jul 27, 2011 by MG1

While nobody would argue that Android smartphones are abundant these days, the situation with tablets running Google's mobile platform might not be so bright. According to an estimate given by the guys over at Daring Fireball, there may be as little as 1.17 million Android tablets currently in use worldwide.
Coming up with this number did not require any elaborate calculations. The estimate took into account some statistical data provided by the Android Market, which showed that between June 24 and July 1 of this year, only 0.9% of all devices that have accessed Google's software marketplace boast a screen size of 7 inches or above. Multiply that by the number of total Android devices out th...
