Like UnlikeFiled in: Roku
With several different video streaming firms plying their wares on the streaming video market today they are all out to lure customers in with all the streaming content they firms can get hands on. One of the popular streaming services is Roku and the company has announced that it secured the rights to stream short form Disney videos to viewers.
That means you won’t get the full-length films to stream, but shorter cartoon length vids will be offered with popular Disney characters. HP Store sells now TouchPad Accessories instead of Tablets
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHPTouchPad
If you got lucky and scored a $99 HP TouchPad in the past weeks than HP would like to sell you some TouchPad accessories now. HP features on the HP Store now an HP TouchPad Case, HP TouchPad Wireless Keyboard and a cool HP Touchstone Charging Dock.
All three TouchPad accessories are discounted, but it is kind of funny that a charging station for a gadget costs 50% of the gadget price. The HP Store has removed the TouchPad tablet product pages yesterday. It is hard to say if this is a bad sign. HP had promised that they will sell TouchPads from a new production run on the HP Store.
A couple days ago we carried a report that HP employees get a chance to buy a $99 TouchPad on September 28 in th...

New Apple CEO Tim Cook is in Asia to open New Apple Stores?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
This weekend Apple opens two new Apple Stores in Asia. On September 23 the new Apple Store in Shanghai opens its doors followed by the new Hong Kong Apple Store on Saturday. According to MICGadget the local press in Hong Kong is talking about Tim Cook attending the Store openings. These store openings would mark the first public appearance of Tim Cook as CEO of Apple as far as i know.
Asia is a big driving factor for Apple's business. And the company is still at the very beginning to leverage the vast Asian market. It would be no surprise if Tim Cook is personally opening these two new Apple Stores. It would give Tim Cook nice PR to make this trip and he can enjoy some great Asian food while...

HP board may fire CEO after his trying to kill mobile, PCs
Like UnlikeFiled in: HP
HP's board of directors is near holding a meeting that could fire its CEO Leo Apotheker less than a year into his stint, a pair of sources said Wednesday. The group is said by Bloomberg to be unhappy both with nine months of consecutive forecast drops and plans to drop mobile hardware and PCs. Under one proposal, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman would take over, at least temporarily.
The company hasn't commented on the rumors.
Apotheker made the decision to drop HP's webOS hardware and unveil intentions to either spin out or sell home computers with the claim that tablets, more specifically the iPad, were making both businesses unprofitable. Investors and other critics, however, have said that bo...

RIM has 800,000 PlayBooks in excess inventory
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsRIM BlackBerryPlayBook
Research in Motion (RIM) has nearly 800,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets sitting idle in inventory. RIM had $1.372 billion in inventory at the end of last quarter, up from $618 million at the end of February, according to findings from the Guardian.
RIM’s PlayBook was manufactured by Quanta Computer at their Taiwan factory. Fubon Securities analyst Arthur Liao said that the company had shipped 1.5 million PlayBooks in the first half. Production has declined significantly as of late as RIM struggles with excess inventory.
Last week RIM announced they had only shipped 200,000 tablets in the second quarter. Earlier accounts from the company say they shipped 500,000 PlayBooks in the first quarter...

PlayStation Network down again, restore coming soon
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesSonyPlayStation 3
The PlayStation Network has experienced another outage today that began early this morning and is still ongoing at the moment. This certainly brings back bad memories of the last time the PSN went down, which lasted for over a month and involved plenty of compromised data. Luckily, this time it seems Sony has got it more under control.
Sony posted to its US and European Twitter accounts acknowledging that they are aware of the issue and are working on getting the platform restored. This quick response and communication is a nice improvement over the last time the network went down. The EU Twitter account has also been a bit more proactive in posting updates throughout the morning and has mos...

HTC Ruby’s first press shot leaks
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCAmaze 4G
The first press shot has leaked of the HTC Ruby, which is expected to become the HTC Amaze on T-Mobile sometime later this year. We’ve already seen plenty of leaked images of the device in the wild, including a version in black and even an image of the back sides of the device revealed in the reflection of a tablet screen, so there’s not too much here that’s new.
But it is the clearest full-frontal image of the device and its leak signals an imminent launch, although we still don’t have any dates confirmed. The HTC Ruby or the HTC Amaze 4G, as it will likely be called at launch, will be a powerful device for T-Mobile, featuring a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.
The handset will al...

ViewSonic puts out slim VX2451mhp-LED desktop display
Like UnlikeFiled in: MonitorsViewSonicVX2451mhp-LED
ViewSonic has added another entry to its portfolio of higher-end computer LCDs. The 24-inch VX2451mhp-LED offers a 1080p resolution using LED backlighting. Its dynamic contrast ratio is a high claimed 20,000,000:1.
The display is pitched as eco-friendly in both its manufacture and real-world use. Its manufacturing process is both mercury-free and toxin-free, ViewSonic said. In Eco mode, its power consumption can be reduced by 50 percent. Video output typically consumes only 25W.
The display's viewing angles of 170 degrees horizontal and 160 degrees vertical give away that it's likely using a lower-cost TN panel. Its average pixel refresh rate is 5ms. Typical brightness is rated at 300 cd/m2....

SteelSeries Sensei gaming mouse is now shipping
Like UnlikeFiled in: Mouse DevicesSteelSeriesSensei
SteelSeries has announced that its latest gaming peripheral is now shipping to buyers. The peripheral is the Sensei Pro Grade Laser Mouse and it is aimed directly at the avid PC gamer looking for all sorts of features and tweaks specifically to make gaming more fun and the player more accurate. This mouse has an inside sensitivity setting at the high-end thanks to a 32-bit ARM processor inside.
The sensitivity can be cranked all the way up to 11,400 DCPI. The default sensitivity is 5,700 CPI and the double CPI range will take things up to 11,400. I have no idea if a CPI is the same as a DPI as most mice are rated in. That ARM processor inside the mouse is as powerful as the original Pentium ...

4G variant of HTC's Radar spotted in the wild, flying a magenta flag
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCRadar
The Radar's arrival in this world was overshadowed by the massive Titan released on the same day. But if a batch of spy shots sent to TmoNews is to be believed, then this mid-specced 3.8-inch Windows Phone could be about to get some much needed 4G pep on T-Mobile's network. The photos also reveal plenty of magenta branding, Tango video calling and of course Mango running under the hood. Further corroboration probably won't come til we detect an HSPA+ Radar at the FCC, but with some decent 6/7Mbps real-world download speeds and hopefully some mobile hotspot action this could well be a device worth having.

Yahoo Apologizes for Blocking 'Occupy Wall Street' Protests, Blames Internal Spam Filters
Like UnlikeYahoo is denying accusations that it knowingly and willingly censored email messages related to "Occupy Wall Street" protests, a leaderless non-violent resistance movement upset over the disparity of wealth and power in the U.S. Protestors accused Yahoo of foul play when their emails containing a link to the organization's website were flagged as suspicious and blocked from being sent.
Several videos on YouTube show Yahoo blocking email messages with "occupywallst.org" in the body, but then going through just fine once the URL is removed. Yahoo didn't deny this was taking place, but blamed it on internal spam filters.
"We apologize 4 blocking 'occupywallst.org' It was not intentional & caugh...

BlackBerry PlayBook Production Cut by Quanta
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsRIM BlackBerryPlayBook
The BlackBerry PlayBook looked good at the very begining, but than big issues got discovered and consumers did not catch on. RIM has supposedly sold less than 800,000 PlayBooks in the first half of 2011. It is not clear though how many of them are actually in consumer hands. Digitimes reports that Quanta Computer is supposed to significantly cut back the production lines for the Playbook.
According to the report Quanta Computer set up a special production faciility in Taiwan with 2,000 workers to make sure the Chinese to not clone the Playbook. Quanta is said to cut back the work force by 50% and shipment of Playbooks already dropped to 100,000 units in the third quarter.

DigiNotar declares bankruptcy after major security breach
Like UnlikeThe disgraced Dutch certificate authority DigiNotar, recently at the center of a hacking scandal, has declared itself bankrupt. The firm first realized it had been compromised July 19 but failed to make any public announcement until the end of August when Iranian users began to notice their Gmail accounts were using fake SSL certificates.
Theses certificates are used by hackers to intercept people's login details and private information when visiting secure sites like Google's Gmail service. In the subsequent investigation that followed, DigiNotar was found to have issued over 500 fake certificates during the period of its breach, with many high profile companies compromised, including Micro...

Huawei MediPad now available for pre-order in Singapore
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHuaweiMediaPad
It's here folks -- the planet's first Android 3.2 tablet. Huawei just introduced a downright luscious new slate over in Singapore, with CommunicAsia being the launchpad for the 7-inch MediaPad. It's the first high-profile 7-inch tablet we've seen in quite some time, and somehow or another, it's managed to leapfrog most of the currently shipping Honeycomb tablets with a build of Android we've only ever joked about. Huawei tells us that Honeycomb 3.2 is essentially the same as 3.1, but specifically tailored to 7-inch tablets as opposed to 10-inch. Packed within the MediaPad's 10.5mm shell, there's a 217 pixels-per-inch IPS capacitive touchpanel, GPS, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 5 megapi...
